From the looks of other rail fence ciphers the rows are different lengths. But, I still have no idea where this leads. When is the next clue supposed to show up?

There's no schedule, we don't know. I've asked if there's anything else that could help us, but haven't received a response. Doesn't mean it's dead or anything, but I'm hoping we're just *this* close, and someone will have an epiphany Smile

The second series of numbers you received; could that point to a specific letter in each of the grids?

no luck yet. The things that pops out at me in this set of 3 documents is that list of 5 words: GUANO TOEHEEL GAGHAG LEPROCHAUN MIDAS
(I wondered about that typo of LEPRECHAUN but it's like that in the PDF.) Maybe there is an anagram hiding in there? (I hate those.)

In the 2nd blog post (June 28) were the double letters. While the misspelling of 'handfull' could be a mistake, it could also be a deliberate technique to hide info or slide the other words into alignment. Many word pairs also created doubles from the end of one to the start of the next word. Nothing further came from this observation.

Putting the docs together with the blog posts, i'm struck by the mention of rare earth elements combined with her description of Virgil as a golden cat. Perhaps more atomic elements are needed to be found in the letter grids made by the blog posts? (Au = gold)

Tell me again why I want to struggle with a puzzle that doesn't suggest how to solve it?

Just to add to the brainstorming, it occurred to me that "LEPROCHAUN" and "MIDAS" both have gold connections. That led me to searching the other terms for metal connections, but...well, let's just say I wish I'd skipped GAGHAG. Embarassed

(edited for coherence)

Don't even want to imagine...

Yeah, I'm just stewing on this now... hoping whilst the wiki is slowly filled up, something will stick out Confused

I wondered the same thing, but the problem with this is that both the first numbers and second numbers in each numbergroup (i.e., the A's and B's in each A.B.C set) both exceed 26. So there doesn't seem to be a connection between those numbers and the grid. I thought about trying to index the numbers straight into the blog posts somehow, but the largeness of the A's and B's again gets in the way-- it's not clear what the numbers could mean. Here's the list again, for reference:
Quote:
22.93.7
30.60.8
17.76.3
25.37.8
8.36.7
20.59.8
20.60.7
19.108.4
19.112.7
19.117.2
34.108.10
34.94.1
30.2.3
26.80.5

Running on the assumption that it's another book/index (which it may not be): Whatever the A's represent, there needs to be at least 34 of them. Whatever the B's represent, there needs to be at least 117 of them. Whatever the C's represent, there needs to be at least 10 of them. Although, assuming the sequences aren't supposed to be reversed first, only some A's need to have 117 B's, and only some B's need to have 10 C's.

I also considered whether the middle numbers (the B's) could represent elements, to be replaced with symbols. I got this:
22.np.7
30.nd.8
17.os.3
25.rb.8
8.kr.7
20.pr.8
20.nd.7
19.hs.4
19.cn.7
19.uus.2
34.hs.10
34.pu.1
30.he.3
26.hg.5
which appears meaningless to me.

I also went as far as applying the first sets of numbers (8-34 range) to electron orbitals of the elements, which are often represented with letters. No dice.

Also tried using the row and column numbers of the periodic table. Ditto.

Very Happy

Felicity threw us a bone about an hour ago:
Quote:

Felicity ‏@FelicityVelius
Mah kitteh Virgil is such a glutton #cantoVI

That lead to:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Dante's Inferno, which happens to fit the book cipher we got. Using Canto.Line.Word, it reveals:
22.93.7 Be
30.60.8 attentive
17.76.3 lest
25.37.8 you
8.36.7 become
20.59.8 enslaved
20.60.7 the
19.108.4 kings
19.112.7 of
19.117.2 the
34.108.10 world
34.94.1 rise
30.2.3 against
26.80.5 you

A quick Google for "Be attentive lest you become enslaved[.] The kings of the world rise against you[.]" turned up nada, so I'm guessing this is meant as a message to us rather than a clue per se, but who knows.

The down sides are: (a) I've no idea how we were supposed to get that without the hint, and (b) I don't know that it puts us any closer on the grid. But it's something!

Could this maybe reference the small errors found throughout the blog posts and documents? (Spelling errors, missing row 20, etc.)

And good job Jessie!

My sentiments exactly! I knew Virgil was the guide in The Inferno, yet because we had already found our Virgil, I discarded my gut instinct. Per usual, lesson learned.

I used a number of anagram solvers on the phrase. Useless. Over 200,000 possibilities. Bang Head
