I saw the Slenderverse and thought "You know, what this mythos really needs? Awkward dick jokes."

At this point everything's been done before - it's what you DO with the concept and where you take it to that matters.

Heh heh. Not EVERYTHING has been done before, story-wise. But you're right about premise in that "vlog gone wrong" or "found these tapes, hurr durr, let's see what's on them" has.

The problem, as I see it, is getting people to stick around long enough to see your story develop into something unique. It's inevitable that it will start out kind of clichéd or stale, since 'everything's been done before' is pretty true about premise.

But there is so much room for how you want to portray Slender Man, how you want your characters to interact with him, etc. I'm excited about what I've got planned, but I've seen interest already drop out right after my trailhead was posted... Sigh.

Framing device is crucial. Remember how annoying Paranormal Activity 2 got, when there was no real reason given for cutting away from stuff that the audience would obviously benefit from seeing? Or maybe that was just me.

One thing I would like, very much, is for everyone to watch Ghostwatch before making a Slendervlog. I can't force them, but it's a pretty amazing exercise in this kind of horror and still packs a punch 20 years later.
