It's possible, but since the instructions say to transcribe prior to decoding I'm thinking it's probably just the grid we're working with.

Is it possible we're looking for pairs or triplets that would create special characters as in ASCII? An example would be 24 in Hex is a $ sign.

Could be something like that, but we have most of the alphabet in here, not just 0-9 and A-F, so we'd have to either rule out most letters or go to a higher number base.

Hi again, had to finish off a project for work, going back to staring intently at this grid now. Woke up in the middle of the night last night thinking it was a game of battleships... weird (and a bit sad? Wink)

Edit: do you think "no external reference" means absolutely no external reference, like ascii tables or anything? Because 59 is ; and that's certainly easy to spot, but I can't find anything else of any use... Rolling Eyes

Edit: what are potential login numbers we have. I have passwords I want to try, but wouldn't know what to log in as.

Tried those, so either that or the password is faulty.

I feel like we should have a login connected to the Atlas station to log into http://servers.horizonindustries.org/atlas >_>

Yeah, I was thinking of going with Allison Archer's login, because of this: http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?mode=attach&id=28493

It says "her" in it, and all the other 3 logins are for guys. Not sure if that means anything.

Ooooo... this is good Smile I'm guessing that's the block of numbers, 8502820 all clumped together in the middle?

Before I read your post, I found 7 letters that are x number of squares away from number x, and have 2 or more letters the same x number of squares away from the number square (that probably makes no sense!) and when it didn't work I nearly set fire to my laptop! Evil or Very Mad

Ugh and now the spam starts hitting the IG forum. Looks like the wiki has been getting hit as well from the looks of all the crap in the Recent Changes.

Ugh, that. I clicked on one of those by mistake and it took me to a page called the Horizon Institute which ended up to be about absolutely nothing (it was for a nursing college, date stamp on the website was 2012, not 2276 or something). Very confusing spam.

Ok... I'm stumped... I gotta believe the 'area' is either the numbers in the middle like Hybrid said or the column with no numbers.

They keep saying in the clues that the 1st one is easiest to find. So that makes me think the 1 surrounded by the I's. But I cant find a suitable 2nd...

I keep wondering about how we get to 7 though. There has to be something in the square thats going to eliminate some symbols.

Due to the frequency count there aren't any 7 characters that can be the 'special characters'... which means there will be another step inbetween instead of just finding the characters pointed out by the symbols in the grid.

I also keep thinking sudoku... but I cant find any way that you'd eliminate numbers to get to 7.

ok thats my thoughts as of now Sad not much help I know. Gotta take a break though. lol.
