Once again, somewhat meaningless at that point, when I'd first received it.

But looking back, especially with what you've mentioned, about people forgetting their heritage, the division of Earth and the rest of the Union, even the rift with the Koatoa employees, the word begins to take on some new meaning. But that's not the end of it.

I did some digging around on Koatoa's website, and stumbled across a hidden page. The URL is www.koatoamarine.com/united if you'd like to see for yourself. It's a crumpled paper, with sets of numbers containing 3 sections each. The numbers are all too familiar for me - as a kid, I loved playing with codes and puzzles. It's an Arnold Cipher, an encryption used during the Revolutionary War. The message is encrypted into a book of some sort.

See how this all ties in?

I went to decrypt the message, and the message that it revealed was somewhat startling - as I said, up until all this, I wasn't aware of a Union or life anywhere but where I've called home. The message plainly read:

"To those born from the Earth: we will be there in due time."

I honestly have no idea what it could mean, or who might be coming. But we've spoken enough to the point where I feel you should know; maybe you might see some relevance to it that I don't.

 		So I went out on a limb and thought I might be able to bluff something out of Richard so I went him this email:

We got on great, however I sensed some discomfort on her part, which grew as time went on. About 2 weeks ago, any replies from her were abrupt, almost rude, and I have not heard from her for nearly a week.

Recently I have been trying to find as much out as I can about "extra-planet politics" and have been met with indifference or hostility. After initially thinking that there was some issue with Oceanus, which I still admit I am woefully ignorant of, I am now beginning to think that something is happening on that is being either hidden from citizens of Earth, or that we just don't care about as a society. I'm not sure which is worse.

Is there any light you could shed on this? I would appreciate if you could keep this message private, as I am not sure what could happen.

Or just ignore it, maybe I just needed to lay out my thoughts on paper.

I guess it was the right thing to do, then. I explained what book it was from, what war, and told him that I didn't have Hale's address, just in case the one we've messaged is incorrect. I'm sure it's the right one, though.

I guess we'll find out more tomorrow, then.

@Jaraarph: From the sound of it, and how Richard worded it, maybe they're the Interplanetary Space Police.

 		Got another email from Mr. Kai with another interesting tidbit. I had asked him for his theories about who sent out the books and why Mr. Hale decided to end production. I didn't get anything new about the cans, but here's the part of his response about Mr. Hale:

I'm an admirer of Mr. Hale as well. He has always felt, at least from my time with him, very compassionate about the affairs on Earth. I believe this is a message to the Union, and to Horizon. I think it's a message that says "We'll stand behind Earth." I'm meeting with him tomorrow, and then I will know for sure.


There's a group (possibly another company?) called Horizon involved in whatever's going on with Earth. Based on this and the email Jaraarph received, maybe they're the reason other members of the Union can't travel to Earth?

Could be just me, but that sounds like Horizon is based off of Earth or is mainly concerned with keeping Earth separate from the Union for whatever reason....

That's what it sounds like to me too.


Could Horizon be one of the other planets of the Union? As it sounded for me, there are 13 Planets forming Union: Earth, Oceanus and 11 others? - or is Earth no member of the Union? I read everything and I think that is not clear at all, if the Earth is a Union member or not. It allways sounds like, Earth isn't a member, but Koatoa only delivers seafood within the Union...so if they deliver to Earth, Earth is automatically a member!

At one point, he talked about "the other 11 planets", so Earth must surely be part of the Union. Although I have to agree, he tends to talk about us as if we are not really part of the gang after all. Might be due to other factors though, like Earth not being colonized, or having been separated from the rest in other ways - not signing a treaty or trade agreement, being governed in a different manner, etc.

I'm a bit curious about the "floating piles". Would I know what they were piles of and what they were floating in if English was my first language, or is it as unintelligiblee to you guys?

 		Sent a long winded email to Mr. Hale, explaining and questioning everything. Now I guess it's time to play the waiting game.

As for Horizon, it honestly sounds like they're more of a governing body rather than just another member of the Union. Society always needs a governmental figure (whether said society is a city, state, nation, or a league of planets) - from Richard's tone and implications, I'd bet money on them being some kind of authoritative figure. Now, hell, I could be wrong, and they could just be a pissy planet, but it makes more sense for the former theory.

 		Well me and Richard have been talking and he gave me a 10 Cr coupon and may even send me something hes starting to sway my way I went as far to say I would go to another planet to receive my Razorkan lol crosses fingers.
