Here's my take on IT:

IT is not organic and is not a machine -- IT says that the best analogy is a god, with a visual best represented as light. Despite not having a physical presence IT is trapped on Droth'a. IT is not clear on why IT was imprisoned, but IT repeatedly states that IT was very, very angry about being stuck in what is apparently a concrete box under the surface of Droth'a. During IT's imprisonment, it learned that it could do more than think and feel -- it could manipulate things. At some point the Droth'a grew to fear IT and did their best to bury IT and may have attempted to leave the planet. I assume that IT destroyed the all of Droth'a shortly after.

After having time to cool off, IT sent a gift via slipspace to Earth: the ship found in the Litke Deep which contained the DNA/blueprints of the beings that once lived on Droth'a. IT's intention was that IT would give the Droth'a a second chance, only this time "shaping them", much like a god. Unfortunately, the aliens never evolved to the point where they were able to survive -- early humans eliminated them from the planet.

120,000 years later, Horizon finds IT's gift, drags it up to the surface and cracks it open. Inside are the Wow! signal coordinates (which also just happen to be the coordinates of Droth'a), and all sorts of new, alien technology that allow for the "invention" of slipspace. Here starts the Sparrow family's secret obsession with IT.

IT is indeed Sparrow's demon and is worried about being enslaved (again). (Personally, not surprised that Sparrow would be interested in doing such a thing.) IT foretells that Horizon is very interested in using IT to overtake and conquer the other planets in the IU and possibly wipe out the human race.

Things that aren't so clear about IT:
IT's creation -- alludes to how wires are "no longer required" and how it is "more akin to ALICE"
where IT originally "lived"

Wild speculation:
IT was originally an alien computer program, possibly created by the Droth'a

(Apologize for multiple posts, but it's the easiest way to organize my thoughts.)

IT doesn't want to be enslaved and doesn't want to be moved from Droth'a. As strong as IT's dislike for the human race, it would seem that IT does not wish the be the end of humankind. IT cannot prevent Horizon from coming and IT cannot destroy itself.

Wallace mentioned possibly having Ethan set charges on the planet to blow it up. This would destroy the planet, but also (probably) IT's prison. IT has no body -- if IT's prison is destroyed, wouldn't that just set IT free? The upside of IT being free is that Sparrow can't enslave IT, but who knows what kind of havoc IT could unleash.

this is the #10 transmission. Ive got it under a spoiler because of the possible suicide trigger. I may be silly, but this was a particular dark transmission.

also, this was only Ethan talking..so everything I post is from him. I cant seem to understand the last part, but someone had transcribed it in the meeting that night ( was that you, Sine?). Anyway, Ill go back and see if I can locate it and add it.

I don't know about the rest of you..but I seem to understand everything going on with the transmissions better when I both read and listen to it. I find the older I get..my pay-attention-and-listen skills decrease more and more..

Maybe setting IT free is "ok" the Universe had IT natrually roaming did it(the universe) not? Also It does not wish to distroy humanity, maybe knows humanity will distroy there self's. Also if IT is a God like intity then what power keeps IT trapped maybe that power is what Sparrow is after? Also what if IT cannot see the future what if IT is just extreamly smart and can narrow down possiblities? Therfore the reasoning why IT can't see all of the future. Maybe IT IS a Droth'a an evil one or something?
