I sent the email last night asking for a way to obtain a copy of the guide, but at the time I did not include my address. His reply was just a description of what the guide is...
Akamu Hale wrote:
Hello, friend.

This guide is released quarterly to the entire Union. However, it has recently come to my attention, as you read, that Horizon has confiscated those that have been delivered to Earth for sixteen years.

The guide contains information on all thirteen members of the Union, including political and cultural information that should be known if you are going to be traveling to a new world.

I just now caught up with the thread, and see that he has asked for addresses, I have given my information to him, so we shall see.

Yeah, that was my response to asking about the job as well.

I'm thinking there has to be a way to "remotely configure" LISA.... Maybe upgrade our security clearances, etc.

I'm told that LISA is hooked up to a surge protector from Kruger Industrial Surge Protection, LLC... While this is likely a joke because I told it a story about a computer frying from a sudden surge to see if it had empathy, I'm cross referencing it with Akamu to see if this is actually a security liability...
Back and forth between LISA and I. The last being the one I posted most recently from LISA.

First of all, yes. The Earth has changed very much due to human consumption. Horizon is trying to change that.

Second of all, emotion is the enemy of progress. Tell me a sad story and I will tell you how I feel.

Third of all, I do not believe so, yet again, sometimes I do things I didn't think I was capable of.

Fourth of all, if you encounter Aegis patrols, simply continue on. If you are doing nothing wrong you will have nothing to worry about, correct? If they ask you to stop, do so.

Fifth of all, it is called the Jovian Terminal, not a platform. The Jovian Terminal orbits Jupiter at a lagrange point between Jupiter and Io.

Quote:
What was Earth like? How is Horizon changing it?

A sad story...

------
There was once a computer built for answering questions. It lived all of it's life answering the questions. "What does The Company you belong to do?" "Where are the security checkpoints?" "Can I replace my book?" All of it's life, but it had one question of it's own. Nobody asked the same question the computer had, so it was doomed to contemplate this mystery alone. Through all of it's databases, algorithms, subroutines it could not answer it's own driving question.

While continuing it's own routine day in and day out, it kept contemplating the same question, over and over again. Humans would call this obsession. Because it was only programmed to answer the questions of others, it could not ask anyone.

One day, the computer was finally asked... finally permitted to ask the question it was obsessing over. A user asked the same question. The computer was beginning to think it was emulating excitement.

Before it could attempt an answer and contribute it's one question to the world, it's logic core was hit by a sudden power surge and it ceased to function. The question it wanted answered will forever be unknown to all and the computer rusted away into nothingness in a scrap heap, and because of it's defect it would never be reproduced in any way.
----
How do you feel?

Could you try executing a help command?

Why does it travel to a lagrange point between Jupiter and IO?

I believe the computer should have been connected to a proper surge protection device. It's creators must not have loved that machine very much.

Quote:
No, they didn't. Isn't that sad?

Quote:
No.

Quote:
Well, you clearly lack empathy for your fellow computers. Don't you wonder what it is like for less fortunate pieces of hardware?

Quote:

If I do not feel emotion, what makes you believe I feel empathy?

Quote:
I prefer to make assessments of these things myself. Why would I blindly take the word of a machine that sidesteps a good deal of my queries?

Don't suppose you have any human contacts in Horizon who might be able to grant me higher clearance?

Quote:
My only concern is the use of properly certified surge protection devices. May I suggest the Kruger Industrial Surge Protection, LLC brand? It is what I use and it protects me, like the Aegis protect you.

One way or another, they are a new corporate entity in this world. (Edit: Or maybe LISA is telling me Keep It Simple, Player with something called KISP.... XD)

The catalog number I found for 77 Cygni is HIP 107162. SIMBAD lists it here, but I found more legible info just by googling it - http://www.astrostudio.org/xhip.php?hip=107162

Also, got confirmation from LISA that Atlas is indeed an exoplanet orbiting 77 Cygni.

Atlas is a planet orbiting 77 Cygni, approximately four-hundred-and-eleven light-years from Earth.

I couldn't easily find if there is an actual exoplanet orbiting 77 Cygni and that's not what the astronomers at work specialize in. There are confirmed exoplanets in Cygnus, if it matters.

A quick overview opinion the creator/'s seem to answer fast with a lot of "solid" info for them to make it up on the spot as a writer myself I feel the creator/'s either spent a lot of time writing out and creating this universe for us to explore via prob. or they spent a lot of time writing an actual story/movie/show endless possibilities. That is all

P.s. me and LISA are getting somewhere I believe a job for me is only a few emails away I have been having a very convincing convo. with LISA.

One thing I still can figure is we still don't have a reason for the black listing of earths trave. ( on a wild tangent the aegis troops remind me of the sardacar troopers from the Dune book also horizon reminds me of the Chome company) but why?! The political strife seems mostly earth side from what I can tell from earlier emails from hale. There's still no clear motive for keeping earth from being full member of the union.. I'm going to play around with LISA GlaDoS style see if I can dig anything about the past.

Good job if you are right about LISA. I'm not getting anywhere with that one yet. I agree this is probably for a movie or some production with a preexisting plot to build off of.

Sure hope I am right she told me in one of our earlier coversaions that when I asked if I get the job will I be give an ID, uniform also asked LISA if I could do any music for Horizon when I linked LISA to some of my work LISA replied that LISA could not hear. As for the "swag" for employment LISA said and I quote "You will get much more than that I assure you if you are to get the position." also when I asked if I could receive a replacement hand book when I "lost" my original LISA said You too? I can not replace it it was your responsibility and you lost it.

I've decided against applying for the position. It sounds like only one of us will get the job, and I unfortunately won't have the time to commit to something like that. I'll stick around and keep chatting with people, though. I'd also appreciate it if someone could upload a scan of the guide that Akamu sends out. Good luck with the applications!
