I've been insanely busy lately with being sent away for trainings at work and a death in the family, so how about we get a little synopsis of what's gone down in the past few days?

I think it would be beneficial for new readers, too, not just myself.

AFAIK, not much has *happened*, but mainly a bunch of info gathering. The wiki is getting populated slowly too, thanks Aesculapius Smile

More than happy to help. Thanks for giving me access to the Flynn Lives wiki. That really helps my wiki n00bishness with a good formatting reference.

And yeah, the main relevant thing that has happened since we received the PDF from D. Jones via Mr. Hale is that Mr Hale is collecting addresses to give to Yimmu Logistics so they can send us any helpful materials in the fight against Horizon, which, I think you are covered for that one, Korinthian. Laughing

Beyond that, it's been more characterization via email for the most part, and a slight amount of confirmation about the sleuthing of the celestial coordinates and what they mean.
------------
Edit: Oh and it's basically thought that the listening station was the structure in the picture in the job recruitment flier.
------------

And now to add the email I got while typing this.
Quote:
Hello again, friend.

To start, no, I am not a member of the council. Our representative from Oceanus is John Forester. He is a good man and believes in your fight against Horizon as well. In fact, it was him that spoke with me in front of the rest of the council regarding Earth a few weeks ago.

And yes, the issue of Atlas. While I still believe your goal should be to get inside, I still worry. I've said it many times before, but this is not how Horizon operates. Why are they recruiting outsiders? And why for such an important role? I will continue to think about this, but the entire situation worries me.

I agree completely. Tell me, are you responsible enough to earn the position?

Is LISA contradicting itself? Having second thoughts?

When I asked Mr. Hale about weather President Sparrow was Horizon's Leader or part of the Union, I got this reply.

Quote:
Both, unfortunately.

I got to thinking: What if my mistake with LAINSY over in the FAILTech thread could be replicated with LISA? If possible it might give the PM(s) the ability to give us a bit more information under the pretense that while LISA is busy, she/they aren't monitoring comms. If nothing else it gives us an idea of LISA's limitations.

So I started an e-mail chain with her:

Any thoughts? Am I reaching too far?

So why does Horizon want a lone outsider for this job anyway? It's an Earth citizen's dream come true to be accepted by Horizon. Why would they pick us for this honor, or is this just another example of Horizon's vast caring to provide for and protect us?

I'm suddenly getting a dark "My cold circuits are only warmed by the thought of destroying all humans," vibe from LISA. XD

I'm taking a gamble on what I believe "Horizon" is looking for. I hope I'm heading in the right direction.

Playing politics with an AI isn't easy.

I've been getting that same feeling, actually. Some of her recent replies back to me (which, my emails to her have been useless banter and trying to wiggle around to get some information, really) have been somewhat menacing and they take the tone of someone with power. Or, something in this case, I suppose.

I asked her how the job hunting for candidates was (and if sarcasm was wasted on her), and this was her response.

If my limited experience with ARGs tells me anything, it's that crazy AIs are both dangerous, and a weak point. Keep the pressure on people! If nothing else, we'll get some more chuckles Very Happy

Y well when talking with LISA I misspelled Knowledge and said misspelling does not show a large Knowledge base then goes on to saying it is ok I understand how humans brains can be. OMFG also anyone else think LISA talks way too much the way a human would I mean as if LISA has feelings? Also LISA has said that all of my abilities are impressive so am waiting for a welcome email.

Akamu continues to show concern over Horizon's apparent change in recruitment tactics. Look at storytelling in general. Behavior like this isn't just cautionary. It's foreshadowing.

In many, many stories, a group initiates, hires or kidnaps someone from the outside because some sort of activity is planned that is extremely likely (or definitely) going to result in something very bad for the person at the center of said activity. Think getting your heart ripped out in the temple of doom or being locked into a room to be bait for a facehugger on LV-426.

Add to this that just one position is available and we have something very bad being focussed on just one lone person.

If the information we have is correct, the position will be at a listening post pointed away across the heavens. It will either be sending information, receiving it or both, but, how is this a danger to the recruit?

Wild Speculation-

Your'e strapped into a chair and...

Your consciousness is ripped out and blasted outwards, arriving, in a shell for a body, at some strange alien location.

Your body is disassembled and blasted outwards, being reassembled at some strange alien location.

Someone else's consciousness will arrive from across the universe and need/take over your body.

Your body will be disassembled and it's material will be used to craft a new body for a consciousness arriving from across the universe.

Any of those would explain recruitment from the outside, but, if a possibility, the last two are more likely, giving the PM's control over the "alien" aspect rather then trying to control a player's point of view or actions in the first two cases.

Update

I've taken the nuclear option, and think I'm in the running for the job. I've got a few mails to post for you here...

So I decided that, to convince her of my worth, I'd give her a little bait...

Quote:
LISA,

Thankyou for your reply.

I believe I have infiltrated the beginnings of a conspiracy in regular contact with the individuals behind the recent Koatoa Marine closure. I have reason to believe they are gradually organising a resistance to Horizon.

While I have no doubt that Horizon's intelligence network is not surprised by this, as an earth native I may be able to gain their trust. Posing as a double agent within your company whilst assigned the ATLAS post would immediately increase my currency within the conspiracy.

Thanks for your time,
Jason Warren

She replied with...

**Welcome to Horizon Industries.**

How very interesting. Your information is much appreciated by the decision-makers. You may be making a case for yourself. I would love to know more about what you would do to get the position.

Always watch. Always listen. Horizon Industries.

So I replied with...

Quote:
LISA,

I don't see any limit on what I'd be willing to do. Obviously channelling information is an obvious service I can render, but tell me what else I can do and I shall see it done.

Jason

I then wrote to Mr Hale...

Quote:
Mr Hale,

Horizon Industries have been in contact with me re: the ATLAS post. I have decided to pose as a double agent for them in an effort to gain the position. I am aware of the dangers involved but feel its too good an opportunity to pass up.

Jason

But he hasn't replied yet...

Rest assured, I won't really sell anyone out Wink

This stuff about "What would you do to get the post" is interesting... any thoughts?
