Why does the Slender Man like the woods?
He certainly isn't dressed for hiking...

No, seriously. Why does an eight foot guy in a business suit hang out in the woods? Wouldn't it make more sense if he hung out in the city at night after everyone normally goes to bed and preys on homeless people? What's up with a guy who's dressed for a day of work at the bank doing hanging out in the middle of an enchanted forest?

My works have an answer to your questions, but I'm pretty sure that anything I say would have nothing to do with what you want to know because of how my works are XD

well, if i'm not mistaken, slenderman originally could alter his height drastically and would of ten use his extra appendages to blend in with the forest as though he himself were a tree. There is probably to the answer, but I believe this is part of it

He could also blend in with telephone poles and streetlamps...

Slenderman is socially awkward.

His origin depends on the creator. So may be the reason for his affinity to forests. According to MH, they have stated several possible origins, he could have been an accused criminal who was tied, dangling, from a tree in a blessed forest. He was left to die, because they never cut down the bodies. The idea being that his body stretched from hanging.

It likes to dress for hiking. I have wore blazer to the woods before I knew about it. I believe he stole my fashion sense. It kind of sad really. I have none. Joke is on you very thin man without a faceless. i win.

In all seriousness, the answer depends on the viewer/creator. Why do you think he wears a suit? That's the answer.

Maybe you're looking at this the wrong way. I would ask: why does something that hang out in forests look like an eight foot guy in a business suit?

Which okay, is basically the same question, but it made me think of that movie Mimic, where a mutant cockroach adapts to look a bit like a person from a distance. It might go some way to explaining why he doesn't have facial features too. As for the suit, I dunno, it's easy to draw so probably easy to imitate, if you're some kind of chameleon or cuttlefish deely.

Whoa, I never thought of that, man... That's a really good point.

I think the woods thing is one of those things that added as people copycatted each other. MH and EMH put him in the woods, so other people put him in the woods. The original material had him in a couple of suburban situations, by playgrounds, looking through venetian blinds, even inside an older Victorian looking house.

Over time a lot of other stuff has gotten added... trees, proxies, symbols... that are now considered "part of the mythos" but it's mostly copycatting earlier stories.

Yeah, I feel he would really fit into a more urban setting. Like an abandoned alley on a desolate city street at four in the morning.

In my series I will probably use a combination of urbanish/forest, because abandoned buildings are so fun to explore. One of my friends took a lot of pictures of abandoned buildings, and one in particular caught my eye. There's also a building ~5 minutes away for me that I will use.

Slendy looks quite anachronistic in a forest. I think it makes him creepier, like finding a wrench in your fridge or something.

The thing about kids wandering into the woods and falling afoul of monsters is as old as the hills. I wouldn't say anyone was copying it, because it's been around forever. Obviously they could be more original, but it has a nice traditional resonance that, say, a cursed aisle of Walmart wouldn't.

Although obviously if any of you were planning to base your Slenderblog around a cursed aisle of Walmart, I'd be totally down with that.
