[IMPORTANT] An Open Letter to Prospective Slenderwriters

First of all, hello!

Second of all, please, PLEASE, read the Trailhead rules. Because I'm such a badass dude, I am linking them to you right now.

http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6859

Seriously. Check it.

Okay, now that I have posted this: I'm sure a lot of you are thinking, "This seems legit, I can totally see why this is a rule!" But, unfortunately, I'm also sure some of you are thinking more along the lines of "PFFFFT, THIS DOESN'T APPLY TO ME, I AM A MASTER INTERNETTER. I WILL USE A GUEST ACCOUNT AND BUMP MY THREAD LIKE A GODDAMN BOSS AND NOBODY WILL BE THE WISER."

You, good sir, have made several errors in your judgement.

You are also an asshole.

It is entirely possible that that is through no fault of your own, and it is due to some rather unfortunate genetics. I will not hold this against you.

This is not, however, an angry post. I am not intending to browbeat, but instead, to inform. Let me tell you /why/ you should not be one of those guys.

1: You are driving the blogs which are not resorting to such advertising schemes further down the page, creating an unfairly disproportionate amount of exposure to you. You are therefore negatively affecting those who have possibly inspired you to write by absorbing their (possibly more deserved) exposure, and you are negatively affecting your compatriots.

2: If you are a good writer/director, your writing/directing will speak for itself. You do not need to create false 'buzz' using sock puppet accounts to make people magically like your writing style, it will be created by itself simply because you've got a piece of creative writing/filming that draws people in. There is ALWAYS someone who will be reading your blog, or watching your vlog, once it's been discovered, and just because it isn't being discussed, doesn't mean people aren't enjoying it. They're just enjoying it passively. And if you start creating the discussion by pretending to be a viewer, people just plain won't enjoy checking the topic anymore, because...

3: We know it's you. We're not idiots, and your shweet roleplaying skills aren't fooling anyone. We also don't take particularly kindly to being treated like idiots. And, point four...

4: Really? How cool are you, talking to yourself about your own project. Doesn't it feel just a /little/ sad? It's fun to talk to other people about your projects, I agree. But when you've made a topic, and keep bumping it yourself, because nobody's been talking about it, and then you double post, and nobody's talking about it still...there's a line that is crossed.

So please. Pay attention to the etiquette of this fair board, and we will love you forever. If you don't...well, we'll probably just make fun of you behind your back. Your choice.

PS: Being a Puppetmaster is one of the best things you can do, and I wholeheartedly appreciate all of the Slenderseries authors for the fact that they tried. Even if the blogs aren't particularly to my taste, I think it's just so fantastic that so many people put themselves out there and try to make something entertaining for other people. I think that is the right reason to be making a blog; to entertain others.

I don't know if all bloggers are doing that, however. A lot of these appear to be an exercise in narcissism; looking for people actively praising their work every step of the way, because they need that verification. Being a Puppetmaster isn't about getting praise, though if you do it right, you will (Case in point: EMH. The crew were sent Christmas presents by fans last year, we appreciate the boys that much.)

Just make sure you're writing for the right reasons.

Edit: If indeed you have a trailhead that needs posting there are ways to do that. Please contact one of the mods. -ChildOfAtom

Edit: Stickied notwithstanding the fact that you, dear reader, may not in actuality be an asshole. -SpaceBass

Yes yes yes. Thank you Delta, that pretty much sums it all up perfectly.

We really are a friendly community, and are always willing to offer suggestions/constructive criticism to those who wish it. If you have a new series you're starting, and you have a decent amount of material already posted, but still want to try and get your blog/vlog noticed, try PMing some of the more prominent members, politely. Actually, Delta runs the Slender Review, so he's a good place to start. Would you agree, Delta?

Seriously, brilliant job. I'm not entirely sure how the forums work here, but can we get this stickied? It would be nice for this not to get buried under everything!

I think PMing more prominent members is a really good idea. Maybe any members who'd be willing to post threads for others blogs could say so in here, so new blog writers could know who would be best to contact?

Yes, thank you for this. PMing a prominent member is exactly how I got mine noticed, I wouldn't have objections to getting a few PMs if it'll stop the flow of immersion-breaking and pointless topic posts.

Thank you. This needed to be said.

I'm a newbie here and even I cheered when I saw this. People do this stuff way too much here.

Though I'm not sure how much good stickying this will do. Confused
I see lots of people continue to break the rules even after they've been told.

It should be either way, though. It has to help some.

As Cosmo has said, I do run the Slender Review, though my own writing has kind of fallen on the backburner at the moment 'cause I've started this semester. I welcome all submissions, be it blogs you've 'found' or reviews you've done in your spare time. It was originally created as an attempt to pick through the topics and find which blogs were good, and which ones were not so good, so people wouldn't need to do it at random.

I'm also looking for people to have semi-permanent positions as recurring reviewers.

If you are interested in any of this; please, do contact me. Hell, if you've got any questions about how to bring your trailhead to light, you could probably ask myself, or most of the regulars here for their two cents via PM. We /are/ a friendly community, and if you treat people with respect, we welcome you with open arms.

EDIT: The Slender Review is down. Contact the Trailhead Troll if you'd like to get discovered.

I don't think this will help. But I agree with it.

Yeah, most likely the ones who would be doing the stupid things won't bother to read this. And if it's pinned at the top, then nobody will read it, just like when the uF mod begged us not to post images.

Needs to be stressed. Allow me to extend this point

1: If you got a "peculiar" email.....
a. why do you automaticly asume its a ARG?
b. Why do no think of it as spam automaticly
c. Why unforum?
d. WHY. THE. FUCK. SLENDERMAN. MYTHOS. SECTION (this makes it so obvious

2: If you found a "new slendervlog"
a. How did you find a vlog with 2 views? According to my claculations, it would take 1000s of pages of searching with extreamly spesific keywords to find it
b. Why did you click on it?
c. Why did you make a random account of unforum to post it?

hurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
