[TRAILHEAD] Unlock The Truth
Make of it what you will.

http://thetruthcanbeunlocked.tumblr.com/

Someone over at the slenderman mythos board messaged me, seeking a trailhead. It doesn't seem too interactive so far...but maybe it just needs someone to try?

Oh, come on, the best ARGs are the ones you have to research for, means they have good stories, usually. Wink Little tidbits to chew on between updates, ect. Of course a game I'm planning is going to make my players research the entire Ulster Cycle, so I'm a bit biased.

Ontopic:

I'm in! Still reading through, but I like what I've seen so far. Like, a lot. (also, murders and possible SKs, yay. I'm a bit obsessed with serial killers)

EDITEDITTHING:

Caught up now, is still good! Following for sure. Very Happy Might see if one of my Alice-knowledgable friends (who plays My Dad's Tapes with me, which also has Alice refs) will be willing to help/play if she has time. Wink

Also, I like that his name is Klaus and he actually seems like Klaus

Well, I can try my best with this Alice stuff.

Compilation of Knowledge #2

-Alice is often alone and seems to be very shy at the start of the first book, her trip through Wonderland is often seen as a voyage of self-descovery for her

Answer

- "She taught me to teach myself things, so that I could learn about things that I wanted to, instead of things she wanted me to" "I would study books on how to do things, instead of being taught how to do them by my Mother." these are very Alice behaviours Carrol decribed her as "curious – wildly curious"

The Wrong Way: Klaus' Opinion

- The Cheshire Cat does not appear in "Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There" making this connection a tad loose

- A "Cheshire Smile" has debated origins it could come from either the Liddell family arms from from a carving in a local church.

-The Cheshire Cat is the pet of The Dutchess (might suggest a leadership structure)

Through The Looking-Glass

- This talks about "America Mcgee's Alice" a video game from the mid-2000's which got a follow up called "Alice: Madness Returns" I did play it when it came out and it is a lot darker.

Basically it makes Wonderland Alice's retreat from her madness (most of the game she is inside an Asylum) and to escape her madness she has to defeat Wonderland (or a demon train if you look at the second game)

A quick dash through the sound files of my PC copy I found these Cheshire quotes to stand out:

Quote:
"How fine you look when dressed in rage. Your enemies are fortunate your condition is not permanent. You're lucky, too. Red eyes suit so few."

Quote:
"Only the insane equates pain with success."

Photo Set

-The locks and keys one is from American Mcgee's Cheshire

-Dormouse is in the teapot at the hatters table, very famous for the Jefferson Airplane song

"Remember what the Dormouse said, keep your head, keep your head"

I'll Drive You Mad

-Cheshire is known for saying "We are all mad here" but in the book "Madness" is really "diffrent from the norm" as the rules of Wonderland break the rules Alice was brought up to follow

-This quote is from the game again, it is one of Cheshire's many idle lines

Scrambled IP's and Pretty Little Things

-Well there is never a debate over who Cheshire is in the books or the game.

- "nut" when he means "not" (bad pun "to loose your nut"?)

Thankies Jono! Very Happy

Ooooh, lots of new posts. Getting fun.

I reallllllly hope it isn't DID. It's so cliche, and... it just doesn't feel right. Could be a twin, or just someone who looks like him sort of (it's been dark every time the stalker's been seen, heck it could just be a similar build/haircut and color and that's enough to confuse most people, esp if afraid because being stalked.)

arrrrrrrgh I can't post anything because I don't have a tumblr. I don't want to get one for this game, sorry. I'll just lurk and post here I guess.

EDIT: (oh god... as much as I loved Dreams in Darkness, I really hope it isn't one of those scenarios DSmile

I don't think it has, pass it on and pass on this from me:

"At least one or two of us agree that the idea of you having Dissociative Personality Disorder sounds like complete crap. It has to be developed through a trauma early on in life when the brain is unable to cope so it creates another personality that CAN cope. Killing doesn't fit that profile, and neither does anything we've been told about your early life. Wink It could be that he looks similar to you, faces can be remarkably similar, esp if the victims were already paranoid from the stalking- you start trying to attach a face you know to it, so it could have easily been your face superimposed on the memory of the days before the attack, low light and similar haircut/build (which has already been established in the journal). -OWP

Well, we don't know anything about the killer yet, so it's hard to say either way. Most serial killers don't start with humans, most start with animals and then move on to humans (look at Jefferey Dahmer).

On topic though, we should focus on the first victim. If this is indeed the first victim ever, the killer would be located fairly close by.

And completely off-topic:
Would be a cool story if this was the Chester cat killing off cast members of "Alice in Wonderland". Too much "Once Upon a Time"? Probably.

Yes, I know the McDonald Triad. :p Harming animals, starting fires, wetting the bed. (though, the Triad is still under debate as to confusing cause and effect)

I wasn't talking about "the killer doesn't seem to be a part of an alter", I meant "the condition known as DID is a coping mechanism and so killing doesn't fit the profile of DID at all. The alter exists to protect the host/any other alters and killing in non-self defense doesn't fit the profile of DID/alters and what (little) we know about them."

Hmmm. I like that Cheshire idea, BubbleBoy. Very nice. If we could get more description of the victim's lives or what they look like. So far it's just the something-to-do-with-Alice, right? No physical features connecting them a la Berkowitz and dark haired women?

Just adding that people with Dissociative identity disorder can murder, as some identity states have an inclination to commit murder[1]. However, as there isn't any clear way to even diagnose DID, it's rarely diagnosed (and was virtually non-existent when doing a diagnosis before the movie "The Three Faces of Eve")

yea, some doctors even nowadays are unsure if it exists or if it's some form of schizoid disorder.

Re-researching, (I haven't researched DID in a while, tbh. I thought I had a good enough memory of it but 'parnetly not) yea there have been cases of what could possibly DID alters committing murders. But, yea cliche and difficult to determine.

/offtopic ramblings about DID

I'mma read over again and look for any other hints/connections between vics I/we might have missed. I did read it late at night, so was tired. ><

Schizoids usually prefer to be solitary; contrary to popular belief, this does not make you a murderer, and I found a forum where somebody asked schizoids if they could murder somebody, the majority reported no. Did you mean a schizophrenic disorder? The two are often confused.

Yes. Gah, I'm just making mistakes all over the place. I SWEAR I used to know this stuff left and right, I guess I'm just relying on my memory too much..... Need to re-learn all this all over again before theorizing anymore. >< Sorry for that.

New Post!

Quote:
I read the plot summary on the Wikipedia page, and I found a couple connections to my situation.
1:
The mini-series was partially shot in the Kamloops, B.C., Canada area.
I live in Canada, so this fact is a bit eerie to me, especially since that's only one province over.
2:
Her father disappeared when she was ten, and she has spent much of her life looking for him.
Again, another connection between me and Alice herself. The only difference here is that Alice was searching for her father, whilst I never really cared much to look for mine.
There may be more, but for now, those are the two most prominent ones to me.

I've got a feeling that the killer may in fact be his father. There's all these parallels with Alice...and he is searching for someone who looks a lot like him.
