Excepted timeframe for asking for addresses?

I was wondering if there was an excepted timeframe for asking people if they would like to receive a trailhead by mail? What are the advantages or disadvantages to asking too early? Too late?

Pre-launch, make a post in varous and sundry or similar, or email it right to uF HQ (whereever that is...), or to wikibruce. There's also the Interaction thread, you can PM a user on there and say "hey I have a game i'm launching and I want to send you a trailhead", or if you get to know the players later on as it progresses then you can ask for their address in an IG way to send them swag or clues or something.

EDIT: Ah, I misunderstood.

i think it would be good to have your game ready to go, and at least a month planned ahead/videos edited and/or posted and very very ready to go the moment you send the package. Postage can be a bitch, and you want to be ready.

I would ask for emails closer to the time you plan to launch the ARG. THis would be after you had planned out and crafted the things that are goinging into your arg. That way you don't have people signing up and then getting an email from you two years later and them not remembering that they signed up.
