a few commonly used mac versions are adium - integrated im & irc, xchat azure or aqua, and colloquy.

Even Dr Carol Marcus could have a link to Gary Mitchell, if you use your imagination. Take this conversation between Kirk and Mitchell from "Where No Man Has Gone Before":

Yeah, that's why I still haven't given up on the theory altogether.

I had the same thought with the date! Also it's close to the 18th , the cloverfield beginning.

For Mac friendly, dedicated IRC clients:
X-Chat Aqua (open source, free, a bit old, still works)
Textual (no longer free, trial version available, fairly well maintained)
Colloquy

For Windows, in the 'not mIRC' world:
ChatZilla (addon for Mozilla Gecko products like Firefox or Thunderbird, free, open source)
HexChat (open source, free)

 		OK, now sorry for doublepost, and perhaps this is one of my most useless posts ever, but I've got some spam-alike comment from somebody "Anonymous" to my blog about Star Trek ARG.

The text looks pretty well as spam, especially because of second part of the message. Strangely, I am clueless about the first part, since, well, here it is:

Looking for "Digital Mitosis" I found some art-science-esperiments

It may be:
1) Spam
2) somebody is making some fun commenting my blog
or 3) hint?
(Even if there is a rule of the non-penetration of realities for PMs)

(Lack of updates let me see a hint everywhere, hehe)

It could be someone messing with us... most likely.
Just in case it is a hint, any ideas what 4x3_101+7 could mean? 4x3 could be the circles 4 across and 3 down?

Is there any way of checking the IP of the poster on your blog?

I'd hazard a guess that 108/12 being nine is a funny way of saying "No" in German rather than anything ingame.

Of course it could be an episode reference relating to either TOS episode "The Enterprise Incident" or TNG episode "Brothers"

But unless it's posted with a link to a web page I'd take it as being OOG.
