Supposed leaked credits.

Probably game jacking but YouTube user chazasaurusrex1 has recently appeared on a number of sites declaring that he has footage of the titles from the Mexican premiere:

YouTube: Link

I've checked the names listed and whoever it is has done some research into it.

Kimberly Arland is listed as Kimberly Broumand which would match up with her current married name.

Sean Blakemore is listed as a Klingon, the only place apparently privy to him even being in the film is Memory-Alpha

Noel Clarke only posted his character name 6 days ago on Twitter which hasn't been updated on Memory Alpha and his character name is listed correctly.

His characters wife, played by Nazneen Contractor, is allegedly named Rima Harewood, the only instance I can see of that on the web is this psychic analysis page

I'm sure there are more dead on hits with others (Like 'Girls' for example) and that it's likely a gamejack but I thought I'd share on the off-chance there are any last minute surprises (Like
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Benedict Cumberbatch's character name, even though we all know it's Khan now
).

Happy hunting!

Uhhhhh....some of us didn't know who Cumberbatch was. SOME of us were trying to avoid spoilers. Thanks. I suggest you put this info behind some
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
spoiler brackets
to protect everyone else who hasn't seen the film yet.

EDIT: Thanks for the fix!

I've added the brackets as suggested.

We still don't know who he is, speculation and rumour are all part of the game until the reveal. Hard to investigate ARGs without running amok in it all.

As I stated in my post, if this is a gamejack then time and effort have gone into it, if it is somehow relevant and in-game then it requires foreknowledge of the mysteries surrounding the film. Hard to tell with Jabrams sometimes.

If indeed my spoiler is correct, then I apologise, from my findings it seems that this idea is being pushed forward by many media outlets, it may just be a purposeful red herring.

Am I The 1701?

When I was a kid and was asked,
"What do you want to be when you grow up?"
Sadly I never asnwered,
"A Spaceship..."

So we arrive at the premier date, some of us slightly swaggier than others. (I mean the posters, etc...) and excellent I say, for we get to see the film quite soon.

However I can't help but feel that with JJ being hollywood's golden child for now (Good on him, because it means some big bucks sci fi gets made, that wouldnt otherwise, if it wasnt for the likes of he) his ideas have to go through many more people to get to the audience now.

Is this why perhaps we havent seen as much puzzly action as we were expecting because it's been "focus grouped", ripped apart, put back together again, mailed to Sweden, sent back inside a Mackerel, lost, found, stolen, rescued by Jay Leno's potato wrangler, translated into Gibbon then burned?

Or is it perhaps simply a cyclic thing, too much of something saturates the market therefor rendering the device useless (Much the in the same way that farmers let thier fields rest) can we possibly expect some mainstream ARG madness of the Dark Knight/Tron/Cloverfield degree again (And isnt just a prolonged advert for gum)?

I certainly hope so.

So as I can't possibly say I feel anything like I am the 1701 right now...

I may be in the future. (Or like the complete sucker I am when i'm sitting in the cinema wading through the adverts before the movie)

Yay

Btw, having just read the updated wikipedia page's full plot summary posted by those who've actually SEEN the movie outside the US (other countries are getting it earlier than us), I can confirm that the "End credits" video above is FAKE!

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Cumberbatch's character's NOT Gary Marshall. He's, in fact, KHAN!!!!!!!

alphabox - I think the whole ARG situation is still evolving. For many TDKR was the apex of interactive virals. Since then they've been slowly dwindling in scope, often just repeating real and virtual events from previous ARGs. From the studio's point the STID app probably makes a lot more sense as it gives them info about how (and which!) people are partaking.

Good point shaneo2, I suppose with the ever evolving social media marketting pov, the amount of information that can be gleaned utilising a semi-closed community (in this case an app) is key.

Essentialy the idea has to be embedded in a larger social media/meme and commercial framework, while also tracking the streams of communication, brand attrition, aggregation and attached demographics to re-apply to future brand vectors (as updated metrics for business intelligence/trend analysis).

All that aaaand still trying to successfully engage said audience in regard of subject/public perception/popularity is a bit of a juggling act to say the least.

I suppose just about any ARG sales pitch to any producer gets the,
"Hey thats a great idea, how can we map it onto already established media vector?"

Just realised this could sound cynical, sorry, just meaning that the idea of Viral or ARG components are embedded into the standard marketting of media and have been for a few years now.

I think that was the point I was making, I may or may not haver talked myself out of it... I might be saying we have to do it ourselves... I dunno.

(Ummm I think this may be the point when a moderator steps in and says this conversation needs to take place elsewhere)

I may have tl;dr'd too sorry...

Nope Alphabox you've got it bang on.

The original appeal of ARGs is now lost due to it being quantified by old media rules.

It'll eventually come back, but it'll be nothing like we've known before unless some 'rogue' agent steps up and proves a small campaign can be massive in the right way.

Shame, but it's just a waiting game until then.

Don't wanna sound pessimistic, but I have a slight suspicious that JJ is so overloaded with his projects that he cannot care about his small viral child. And - who knows, what is going on in the background behind the curtain, among the puppetmasters, who have to act on their own now? Financial issues? Personal stories? Main demotivation?

I mean, "The $2 Incident" seems for me to be some kind of rescue "plan Z" in the last moment. Look, which recent movie by JJ was not accompanied by an ARG? And which ARG wasn't impressive scripted (even if not always satisfying)?

And what do we have now? AreYouThe1701 sounded like they had planned more with it as they've got finally. So they use now this domain just in order not to loose the last fans of viral community. For marketing goals.

Look at all those e-mails from 1701 or Paramounts:
"Post an Instagram or Vine"...
"Post Your Original 1701 Designs!"...
"Search the 1701 Site to Watch the Star Trek Into Darkness Character Video!"

All those invitations to activities have nothing to do with an ARG. But the trail was definitely (hidden in an trailer) - recall Super8 trailer madness.

I don't know, whether there will come something ARGish after Star Trek is running in theaters bringing financial aid for movie makers. (Even of the pretty first ARG "The Beast" was launched after the "AI" release...)

Lets... just hope...

Nuh uh!

The Beast launched months before A.I.'s release. It did wrap up *shortly after* the release of the movie, since a clue was embedded in the credits sequence for a puzzle/plot point the Cloudmakers were anxious to solve for the endgame.

Oh, sorry. And thanx for correction Smile
I haven't occasion to play The Beast, so I should perhaps re-read Dave Szulborski again Smile
