I'm sorry, still confused here. How do you order the numbers when applying the letter pairs?

I'd like to deliver a hearty and sincere "fuck you" to ToTheArk for making one number represent two of the most common letters in the english language.

"[It's] truly your fault [that] she's out there."

Maybe meaning it really is Jay's fault that Jessica is stalked by the Operator. She might not be but it's implied that she is with the coughing at the end of 52 preceding banging noises from 28 & 30 and the confession from 32. But that was already implied (and seemingly assumed by Jay, since he feels the need to find her and assure that she's okay).

What seems strange though, is the idea that Jay could pass on some kind of Operator corruption to somebody when he barely seems to be affected by the Operator himself. He's barely even seen the thing. Prior to season 3, he'd only run into it incidentally twice: when Masky led him directly to it in Entry #23, and in Entry #40 (which could have been caused by Hoody somehow, given the following entry). I thought at the end of its release that 40 was supposed to indicate Jay actually starting to be stalked properly (letting them handwave 23 away) but if that's the case, then Jay sure did have a calm 3+ months immediately afterwards. o_O

I guess the message could be even less specific and just mean it's Jay's fault that she's involved at all, which is undeniably true. And also even less revelatory than I initially thought. Blah.

You know what would have been a cooler message? "alexhasher, iknowwhere, heishiding"

Oh well. I still think it's a cool cypher, but I also didn't do anything. Razz I think I'd be pretty annoyed if I dumped a bunch of work into this. Unsurprised, though.

Great work!
Now Jay must find a way to put this explanation in fewer than 140 characters before we have a final confirmation.

Things to consider for the moment:
No obvious meaning for the ??????????????? after 'Truly Your Fault'
TTA seems to talk about Jessica - 'She's Out There' - in the third person, which implies that a) Jessica is not TTA and b) Jessica is 'out there' in the wilderness, NOT busy uploading videos to youtube/posting from Jay's twitter account.

Well, the part about "watching" may not have come up if the code was solved sooner, since it was posted on twitter during the hints posts.

But could we have identified the sequence of all the pairs (and noticed the fact that there were 13 of them, accounting for half the alphabet) without receiving the additional unique number pairs found in the "watching" tweet?

Great job, codebreakers. Glad that's over.

Underwhelming message from TTA, it turns out.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Anybody get the feeling that maybe Troy & Co. just underestimated the strength of the code? Like, maybe this was supposed to be just a normal message from TTA, like all the others, and then it turned out that the audience unexpectedly struggled with the new code? And therefore assumed that it was going to be a critical piece of information? Seems like maybe that's why Jay was so much help; they were trying to compensate for the difficulty and roll back the expectations. Didn't work.

Maybe the code was a distraction? Like, a diversion to keep Jay and Tim occupied while ToTheArk was doing something?

I can get used to long posts, you know

So, it seems we finally cracked the code, ladies and gentlemen, congratulations! I would like to be Trosephim Laughing, but unfortunately, I am not. No one would doubt that now, I guess, since all of my theories turned out wrong. The way to continue the sequence after 79 feels kinda lame, but this is my only complaint. Was still fun.

I emailed Troy to his new public email address to make sure that Jay wasn't supposed to decipher the code himself, as someone suggested earlier in this thread. Troy said that anyone can decipher it, given enough time

Did anybody else read that and think that "given enough time" means "once we give you the rest of the puzzle pieces you need?" If the above is a direct quote from the message, then it sounds to me like he's saying that we're going to have to wait for the rest of it.

And if that's the not what he meant, what does having enough time have to do with anything? Does he mean we would have to bruteforce the thing, trying out every possible mathematical combination until we hit on the right one? Because it seems to me (a code-breaking layman) that we don't need enough time, we need the right method and the right key.

I thought that myself, but was it likely for Troy to mock at his humble Russian fan so much? And yes, this was the complete reply: "Anyone can decipher it, given enough time!" He may have mentioned time, because we COULD decipher the code from "Surveillance" before all the tweets, but it would require more clever assumptions. Your brain needs time to make clever assumptions. Should we trust Troy more from now on?

Well, technically you called nelord7000 a dumbass, so you might want to apologise to him on YouTube, but I understand your feelings. Better late than never. *gives a hug*

As for the destroying a TV, since Totheark is still watching (and tweeting), it may indeed be Hoodie's confirmation that Jay stops his passive "Surveillance" and "inquire at last". Razz And this means we are entering a truly exciting, breathtaking part of the final season.

Maybe those question marks mean that TTA doubts that Jessica's disappearance is Jay's fault, or wants Jay not to feel guilty? I dont know, maybe the message is: "[Is it] truly your fault? She's out there." (so this implies she is allright, or alive at least).

The second code translates to SURF BUTT HERE as well. Just saying.

Well done on cracking the code! I was nowhere close to getting an answer.

It does seem like a stretch.

After assuming number pairs, we would have to assume the first pattern (which I think we did):
First digit plus two
13, 24, [35], [46], 57, 68, 79

Then we would have to assume that the mirrored pairs are just mirrored versions of the pairs already in the pattern; leaving us with 83, 72, and 27. We would have to assume that after 7X would be 8X, so 83 goes next:
13, 24, [35], [46], 57, 68, 79, 83

But 83 doesn't fit the first pattern. At this point we would have to assume that 83 is part of a second pattern. If we treat the first pattern as "first and second digits increases by 1", we might assume the next pattern would be "first digit increases by 1, second digit inceases by 2". We would also have to assume we start at 83, in the second pattern, because the first pattern started with 13; a pair that has "3" as the second digit.

Okay, that's as far as I'm going.
I can already see in my head that the key would've been extremely difficult to get without totheark's code tweet; especialy because of the mindset we were in (things like "no zeros" probably would've stopped us from making jumps like "83, 95, 03, 15"). One would have to have an idea of a cypher like this. They would have to assume; "26 letters, 13 pairs, and each pair is one letter or another", and then assign the first 13 letters the first digits of each pair in order, then assign the last 13 letters to the second digits of each pair in order. And even then, it would take luck and wild guessing that "we go 83-95, oh, but next is over 99, so lets go to 00 and reset the second digit to 3" to get 03.

Short answer: yes. 7995955713 571324837983 79953957

I think that having a limited number of pairs available at first was one of the things that I kept getting hung up on. It kept me in a rut of trying to match it up to a keyword of 10 or 11 letters. I'm just glad that it's solved and we have an awesome cipher to use in the future!

Anyone told Jay yet?

BTW - Instead of "shesoutthere", the code could be "surfbutthere" - maybe TTA's a fan of the ButtHole Surfers?
