I don't think everyone has a monster, personally. I think it's just comfortable coincidence they ended up with three main male characters and three main male(ish) villains.

The only problem I have with that theory is that it's really unlikely that Steph has the same significance as Alex, Daniel. . . .

True, Steph does seem to have more significance than the other secondary characters, but it is still unclear what here roll is, beyond delivering Evan/HABIT's baby. Even in the Corenthal letters MT4 Steph is barely mentioned, seemingly only to establish a connection with present day Steph and the Hybrids. It could be just a coincidence, but the Hybrids are the only ones whom have worked to defeat the demons and solve the riddles, not Steph.

As far as the inHABITation of Corenthal goes, there are alternated explanations for each piece of evidence
1. Purple flashes in the sanctuary- I take this to be HABIT trying to enter, as Corenthal said he can't keep them out all together and purple accompanies all that HABIT interacts with, not just inHABITS.
2. "The good doctor is not so lucky as to be dead. Just dealing with some old habits." I would wish I were dead, too, if four of my adopted children "succumbed" to demons, likely HABIT was involved.
3. "IT IS I WHO inHABITS THIS SANCTUARY" though the popular thought is that Slendy is the other voice in this twitter fight, I think Corenthal is a likelier candidate, referring to the Hybrids as his children and talking of the struggle to control the sanctuary, again, just as Corenthal said he carved the sanctuary out of the monsters' inner sanctum.
4. HABIT has a very distinctive speaking style and bravado which is even evident in the CYSTW posts. While Corenthal has a similar speaking style, it lacks the malicious humor and explosive anger. I just don't see the two as the same. Also, the Corenthal Letters never mention anything about him that could be interpreted as an inHABITATION.

I can see how these pieces could indicate a HABenthal, but for me it just doesn't add up.

I agree with all of those except 4, because Corenthal also has a distinct style, which is nothing like how he appears in that video. I thought earlier that maybe he could be "partially inHABITed," & that's how he can do his teleporty trick & inconvenience Slenderman--then I remembered that HABIT's only stated abilities are possession & heightening physical ability.

Hmm, so maybe he has learned to at least partially resist HABIT. I think the "teleporty trick" is more from studying the monsters and learning how they do it, just my impression.

On another matter, I am kind of expecting that Steph's story is going to come more to light and become more important in this "final act". Searching the past pages of this thread, it seems the theory that Steph or her background is Yggdrasil, has been danced around but maybe not fully articulated.

She has revealed that she found her family hanging from an ash tree in her backyard in bags. The world tree of Norse mythology, which is the center of the world and holds it together, is an ash. So, considering EMH's affinity for House of Leaves, which apparently talks a lot about Yggdrasil, the coincidence is to great to not be intentional. I take this to mean Steph's backstory, Steph herself, or her baby is the key to unraveling everything else and maybe to the Hybrids' survival.

I will literally be angry with rage if that's the explanation. You can't just "learn how to do" quantum phenomena just because something else is naturally able to exploit it. It's like, I understand how a bee can see in ultraviolet, but that doesn't bring me any closer to being able to do it myself, without the aid of special equipment.

I'm pretty sure House of Leaves only mentions Yggdrasil on the final page.

Well, I didn't mean he just "studied up" and poof he can do it. Corenthal's use of teleportation seems to involve doorways that are like wormholes, kind of like how the Merovingian and his crew in The Matrix used ordinary doors with special keys to teleport all over the place. Find or make to right key and you, too, can be a teleporter. Of course he also could have gained this power through inHABITation.

As to Yggdrasil, from http://scratchpad.wikia.com/wiki/House_of_Leaves
Quote:
There are numerous references to Yggdrasil, the great world-tree of Norse mythology. Some believe that the house itself is meant to be a representation of that tree, with the enormous, elaborate labyrinth as its roots.
The most obvious reference to this mythological archetype is that Navidson's house is located on Ash Tree Lane. In older versions of House of Leaves, the house was originally situated on Oak Tree Lane, and it was presumably changed as the Yggdrasil imagery rose in prominence.

Yggdrasil, and trees in general, may also serve the function of unifying a central theme and metaphor of House of Leaves: the comparison of books (such as House of Leaves itself, and The Navidson Record) and houses (such as Navidson's house).

"Leaves" is a synonym for the pages of a book, thus making the actual book a house of leaves. Trees are used to create both houses and paper for books.

The fact that the final page of House of Leaves has the word Yggdrasil highlights the great importance and connection between the mythological tree and elements of the novel. Below the name is this poem:

"What miracle is this? This giant tree.
It stands ten thousand feet high
But doesn't reach the ground. Still it stands.
Its roots must hold the sky."

I could get behind the doors thing. I have a theory that the reason everyone gets teleported to Baldpate all the damn time is because Slenderman & Friends set up a system of portals there. That is also, I believe, why The Property looks like a hodgepodge of different houses.

Much as I'd love to see a more heavy nod toward the Norse pantheon... I am not holding my breath, especially in relation to Steph baring more significance because of the Ash tree.

Odin spent nine nights in the tree, a willing sacrifice to himself. Now one can use the traditional sense of the word sacrifice which is bolstered by abrahamic images of altars to God, Christ on the cross, whatnot, or one can simply look at it from the point of view of risking one's self to glorify one's self. Either way, it paid off. When he fell from the tree he had knowledge surpassing any other's. 'Runes,' which some interpret to be, more plainly, magic signs, sigils, that sort of thing. Either way with what he gained from his time riding Yggdrasil was something so amazing, so glorious that he changed everything.

Obviously there's the content of the most recent video to turn around the idea of the Ash tree playing into Steph and making her some sort of beacon of hope. More than that though, Steph lost everything when she found her family hanging from the tree. Since then, there have been various implications that people she has been involved with have been hurt or lost.

Could be wrong but if there is an overtone of Asatru to what's behind or what's to come it really is subtle. I've never read house of leaves, though I've been considering asking a buddy to let me borrow his copy (but he'd probably have to mail it and postage and whatnot, I'd feel bad) so I can't really comment on all of it's relations to Yggdrasil beyond saying that based on what I've read about the story, I do agree with the analogies comparing the two.

Though there is a point in *favor* of the theory re:Steph. While Odin was on the tree, he was a sacrifice, pierced through by his own weapon, it had to hurt yet he continued to live and in the most recent video

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
HABIT makes it clear that despite Steph wanting to die he wouldn't let her.

He was most likely talking to Evan.

So we have Steph, whom has a connection to an ash tree, which in turn has connections through Norse mythology to concepts like sacrifice and the salvation of humanity (Yggdrasil protects one man and one woman through the end times to perpetuate humanity afterward) and we have Evan, whom has possibly sacrificed his control over his body to protect his baby and whose MT4 doppelganger is found recreating the crucifixion of Christ. Does this point to the baby being the savior of the Hybrids? or am I making too much of the bunny Christ incident?

The Yggdrasil connection was discussed pretty heavily in the first EMH thread, I think.

But the tree at Baldpate is figured extremely prominently throughout the series.... and as far as we know, Steph has never been there.

At this point, anything is possible! Very Happy

The yggdrasil of myth also contains other worlds, which is a nice connection to "the property" house located near the tree at Baldpate.

THANK YOU!!! i was wondering this.

first, i didn't recognize him, and i still dont see alex in him, but people seem to insist it is him. second, why did Evan seem to treat him like he did all the other proxies, there was no talking or anything between them, yet, he must be significant since he is the only unmasked proxie. third, it makes sense that he was alive since he was never confirmed to be dead, they just thought he was after vince couldnt find him on their way to that person's (i cant remember who's it was) funeral. and finnally, this supports the fact that the proxies were slenderpuppets, since it is most likely that Alex was captured by slendy.
