Hi there,

I'd like to offer my services - I'm just starting out but at some point everyone was.

I'm UK based but I can often spare large amounts of time and the chronological difference would mean almost constant monitoring of a project.

I work as a network engineer so I have a good degree of technical knowledge and a background that helps when trying to understand something new. Technological specifics:

- Intermediate ASP encoding
- Basic SQL
- Basic HTML
- Intermediate Audio/Visual manipulation
- Intermediate Photoshopping

My job involves short periods of action interspersed with very long periods of almost terminal boredom - I can't use instant messaging software where I work but I can spend the time researching subjects or responding to emails and similar other activities.

On a personal note I feel that I am full of ideas in a lot of areas. I love puzzles; crosswords, su doku, online riddles, classical ciphers, etc. all interest me.

I will watch almost any film once, "romcoms" are hard to swallow on occasion due to their inherently saccharine nature but I can't get enough of other genres. If I had it my way I'd watch films for a living Smile

I read as much, if not more so, than I breathe; sci-fi, fantasy, horror, comedy, drama, classics, technical studies, you name it... This means that I'm a veritable well of esoteric information.

I take pride in presenting prose to an exacting standard and can spell check on the fly (though on the spider takes effort Razz ). My grammar would be considered very good in my opinion but everyone makes the ocassional mistake. Given guidlines I can also write fiction fairly well.

I am extremely enthusiastic about taking an active role BTS or PMing as I would like to learn the skillset that would enable me to release a game I have been thinking about recently. My stoicism would, I think, come in handy at times during an ARG as I usually just get things done rather than worry overmuch about uncontrollable situations.

So I may be a novice but I pick things up quickly and haven't had my zeal for administering a project blunted/cut off at the knees yet - it would also take a considerable effort to inflict such a change upon me. Please give an enthusiastic amateur a chance.

I am currently vacant /engaged

what the heck, I may as well get my profile up in here too...
I joined the ARG community (and unfiction) with the rise of Ilovebees, in which I was heavily involved (as a player). From then on, I've been lurking and taking part in various ARGs, 'Extended Realities', and time wasters... Razz
Right now I'm mainly following Ocular Effect, 7468656e64 (numbers), and Landa (when it was alive), though lurking in a number of other smaller/upcoming arg(ish) things, and I just received my copy of Cathy's Book (from Jordan and Sean), and recently set up a couple of wikis.

I've recently been brainstorming amongst myself for various arg ideas - stories, characters, ways to integrate puzzles and interaction in a believable way, etc etc

skills:
* organizing (definitely organizing)
* professional web developer, with heavy ASP, HTML, DHTML(JS/CSS) skills - I also own a few sites all through godaddy which I've built from scratch for various purposes, as well as having generated custom styles for my LJ blog
* audio/video/graphics manipulation
* I adore puzzles and puzzle solving
* favourite genres are sci-fi and epic dramas
main area of expertise most likely:
* web work, maintenance, coding, scripting, host management
* puzzle ideas / generation

I'd love to be a part of a PM team to help in the back end, and have been quietly yearning for it since ILB Wink

CURRENTLY AVAILABLE /CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE

Dunno if i've posted in here before, but here goes.

Location
I'm located in the UK, but spend most of the night on the computer (anytime between 6PM and 3AM some days). This means I'd have a lot of spare time to respond to emails, talk on IM, etc.

Qualifications/Experience
I used to attend a performing arts school, in which I had parts in various productions. I've always been interested in acting, whether it be physical, or just written.

I also took a course in Creative Writing, in which I feel that I learnt a lot. I love writing fiction, and plots and storylines, as explained below in the ARG Experience section.

I have a qualification in ICT, which included some website creating, but not too much, but it would mean that I'd be able to set up at least a basic website. This course also included a graphics unit, so I would possibly be able to help in this way as well, depending on what was needed doing.

Also, if the ARG was to feature interaction in a game such as Second Life, I have a lot of experience there, and know my way around roughly.

ARG Experience
I've lurked on several ARGs but not played them, but actively played Catching The Wish, The Lost Experience, and am currently playing Cassie Is Watching. It may not look like much that I've participated in, but I've also read up a lot on I Love Bees, and Chasing The Wish, both of which sounded very exciting.

I myself currently have a rough outline for an ARG - ie character names, different kinds of interaction, an idea of what will happen at the end at least etc, so if you needed any help on storyline, I wouldn't mind handing my baby over to you, lol, as I probably need a lot more experience behind the curtain before I start my own up.

 Resumι

Ah, what the heck, I'll put mine up.

I currently have an idea for an ARG of my own, with story and characters outlined, but since I have no experience as a PM I'm looking to gain some know-how as an assistant PM on other ARGs before I start one of my own. I don't know if anyone actually looks on this thread for help, but on the off chance, I'll toss my profile out here.

I'm Mac-based, located in USA. I'm a veteran ARGamer, a longtime player of Perplex City (my fave), and a few others. I also play the infamous Ring Game held twice a year in Wisconsin.

Character Writing:
— As a veteran fanfic writer, I have experience writing storylines, plot, and dialogue involving other people's characters, plus a few original short stories.
— I have acting and improv experience, so I'd be able to do voice acting or take the role of a character in a chat line with players (if your game has that).

Puzzle Making:
— I love making puzzles as a hobby. I have experience writing codes that are easy to remember and hard to decipher, I design mazes and write lateral thinking puzzles too. Also, I research and write trivia questions on a variety of topics.

Computer Skills:
— I am an expert in Photoshop, in fact I make some money off of retouching photos or designing cool posters/one-page ads for hire. I also have experience in Illustrator and Bryce, and am currently in training in advanced digital animation programs.
— My programming/designing skills are amateur at best, but from my understanding that's not the most important thing in an ARG. I have done some work in Java and have limited HTML skills as well.

MISC:
— Experience in group work, and some leadership skills.
— I have plenty of time available, given that most of my social events are held here Embarassed and that I don't need much sleep. Shocked I am still in college and I have heavy class schedules on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but I'm free most other times.
— Good with crafts/props for clues Rolling Eyes
— Live in Madison, Wisconsin, able to do some travelling to plant clues

Curriculum Vitae
Just dying to hang out behind someone's curtain...

Edit: Starting a project in December - unavailable until I remember to edit this edit Wink

May as well jump on this bandwagon, I would really love a chance to hang out behind the scenes.

Greatest Achievement (in this genre) - reverse engineering the occulus actionscript to create my own puzzles and video triggers. Whoever coded that thing - you absolutely, indescribably ROCK.

Skillset:

  • Professional XHTML/CSS/Javascript whore
  • Professional videographer (DV, 16mm, 35mm, avid adrenaline)
  • Professional Alcoholic (not sure if that would come in useful?)
  • Video encoding/streaming (wmv, flv, real, qt, tcp or udp live)
  • Pro Audio Engineer (Pro Tools, Sound Forge)
  • Flash Actionscript (with a vengeance)
  • TCP/IP Routing, iptables, BGP4, I can help you play games with whois and arin
  • Access to a group of "players" - male/female ranging 15yo to 50yo
  • Indescribable fascination with what goes on behind the scenes...

Weaknesses:

  • I can't write worth a crap...
  • I hate instant messaging
  • I guarantee I couldn't play a "role" - unless it's the role of a jaded music producer.
  • I have an almost unhealthy obsession with Ducks.
  • I'm a Phaedra fan boy (is that a weakness?)
  • Professional Alcoholic (see above)

Interested? EarlyWyrm Schplatt Xerobox.Com

Edit: A mi me gusta burritos. Sabrosisima!

Assets:

  • My biggest talent is writing in any form. I've been writing fanfic for ten years, and I'm currently working on two books of my own. I also do what we call tagging, which is trading bits of writing back and forth in an improv setting.
  • I'm a wizard in Photoshop. In fact, I have a tablet laptop and am a passing artist; one of my truest loves is graphic design.
  • I was a telephone operator for a year at an international telephone conferencing agency, which left me with no marketable skills except a fantastic, if quiet, phone voice. Also, I have a microphone and some experience with Audiophile and Wavepad.
  • I'm a terrific liar. *grin*
  • I come with my own personal server, some HTML experience, and no compunctions about stealing code to suit my purposes.
  • My girlfriend has a master's in clarinet performance and a CPA.
  • I also come with a small group of friends who are completely willing to anonymously troll anything they find amusing, if it were required.
  • I live in Baltimore, very close to Washington, D.C. In fact, I grew up just south of DC, so I know it pretty well, and I've always wanted to make a dead drop. *grin*

Disadvantages:

  • I still have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to puzzles.
  • I work a lot, and my Saturdays are almost always taken up with DnD.
  • I hate instant messenging a little.

Hi there! I'm a music writer (album/gig reviews, etc) but when I discovered Year Zero it occurred to me that the folks behind ARGs must have the best jobs in the world!

Last year I was a regular content writer for Near Worlds Interactive's "The Zombie Game" which turned out to be a prototype for certain elements of MMO/ARG Unleash, so I sent an email to a friend at NWI asking for advice on how to get involved behind the scenes of an ARG.

One of his suggestions was to look for amateur projects and volunteer my services, so that's the purpose of this post. If you're involved in such a project and could use another writer, or if you'd like to build a team from the ground up to put together an ARG in the not-too-distant future then I'd be delighted to hear from you. I've already noted down some ideas of my own for potential plots, but I'd be willing to try my hand at anything you may have in mind.

Thanks very much for taking the time to read this post. I look forward to hearing from you.

My abilities:

Published writer (in the field of music admittedly, but I've been told my style of writing would suit fiction)

Experience of writing puzzles for "The Zombie Game"

I seem to have a knack for picking up on spelling and grammatical errors, so I dare say I'd make a decent proofreader

Up for a bit of voice acting (I've presented a radio show since September 2006)

Some experience of roleplaying (I could comfortably respond to messages in character, etc)

    Basic HTML knowledge

The enthusiasm and imagination of ten men

Pleeeease.

That's like saying "I was born. I breathe oxygen. I think the sky is blue."

You don't have to list what's common to everyone Wink
