Some CPs would work well vlogged. Others would not. I would love to see a full on Candle Cove. The Holders would be awesome as well.

Psychosis could actually work really really well in vlog format. Only, the author would more than likely shut off and ultimately destroy his camera because of the plot...

But instead of Pastas, why not take a look at the fear mythos instead? More versatility, and it's open sourced so you can modify the existing fears and make your own if you are so inclined. Since The Slender Man is a part of it already, it's no stretch of the imagination to have The Rake or The Black Dog lumped in with him.

What about a video series about urban legends, cryptids, aliens, etc...

I just prefer to make up my own stuff on the side. Keeps the creative juices flowing, and insures that the audience doesn't know what exactly to expect next.

Of course there are some points in certain series where, if you use enough of your own character that you should probably just make your own series that isn't SMM related. Because yes there are non-Slender Man/serial killer web series/ARGs out there.

I'm making one of my own using sort-of-Pooka/walk-in hybrids

This is just a personal semi-gripe of mine because some people don't seem to realize that there IS a market for original series out there. Or else you can sometimes tell the creator(s) are trying to capitalize on the SMM fanbase so much that they shoehorn him/it in to try to go all "LOOK A SLENDER SERIES GUYS." and really it would work so much better if it was it's own series in it's own universe. I don't remember which one did that recently but there was one.

I wanna say it was Down My Cellar Door, but I like their SM as well as their other creatures so that probably wasn't it... Maybe it was EMH.

Ah well, doesn't matter. My two-cents still stands if anyone wants to counter or agree or whatever.

also, TOTALLY SECONDING THE CRYPID IDEA. YES. Both as a side character and maybe Slendy himself. I'd love to see someone go all Cryptozoologist on Slendy, treat him like a real crypid instead of all Lovecraftian "wtf is going on -flail camera everywhere-". I'm sure there have been series like that but I can't recall any right now... (sorry that probably belongs on the "what do you want to see..." thread than this one)

Originality is dead.

But all hyperbole aside, I think the key is to find a good balance between original & borrowed ideas.

It's not really hard to come up with a serial killer, & doing so, 9 times out of 10, you'll come up with something better than Jeff the Killer. If you want to name him Jeff as a reference, go for it.

Wait Jeff the Killer was meant to be serial? Didn't he just kill two people in some fit of rage though? Counts more as mass murder doesn't it?
I don't even remember most of the series and I'm not bothering to look it back up to fact check, tbh.

But yes, you have a very good point. Even cliches can be tolerable if they're used properly or else are surrounded by enough uniqueness (again, the balance like you mentioned). Very Happy

In the original story, he killed some wankers in self-defense & his family in flashback, & was still on the loose in the present day. And I am of the understanding that he gained enough inexplicable popularity to be given a series of spinoffs.

Unoritinality: The story isn't that clever to begin with. Mutilated serial killer sneaks into your bedroom to stab you to death. It's been done. A lot. So even if it's good, it's pretty much guaranteed to not be outstanding. Then it goes into the flashback, which seems systematically designed to undo any merit that the first section might have had.

Plot Holes: The end of the flashback establishes Jeff's distinctive features & history of homicide. Also, the newspaper is entitled "Jeff the Killer." Why do the police not have a suspect? Why didn't they investigate Jeff's case at all, but they were willing to take his brother to juvie without any real trial or investigation?

Ignorance of Many Subjects: The author clearly has no idea how law works, & Jeff burning his eyelids off is improbable to say the least. It is important to get this shit right when the story is supposed to be something that could happen to anyone.

Predictability: You should have known how this would have ended ever since you saw the title "Jeff the Killer," this kid named Jeff engage in an orgy of violence throughout the story, & we haven't heard from any of these characters in the present day.

Poor Characterization: The parents are more concerned with some random brat's birthday party than the fate of their child. Later, they see Jeff self-mutilating & decide to kill him. The author seems to genuinely believe that this is how normal people behave.

Needless Action Movie Elements: Jeff stopping someone's heart with his fist is neither realistic nor scary. Holding a room of adults hostage while forcing them to watch the fight is just silly. Having the strength to throw Jeff around like a rag doll is just silly. Laughing & trying to take their enemies down with them is, again, silly. Keep in mind that the antagonists are all 12.

Joker Ripoff: The chemical burn & botched plastic surgery, after which Jeff goes crazy, is pretty much lifted from Batman.

Word Choice: "The bleach bleached his skin." "He was wearing an Aeropostale t-shirt." "He got a weird feeling. Not so much a pain, but... a weird feeling. He dismissed it as just some random feeling."

I already said, yes, the story is bad. But for some reason I just like the character.
