[TRAILHEAD] Boom the Moon Yeah, so someone mentioned there's this thing going on that's connected to the World without Helium (#WWOHelium) crowd-sourced ARG that was started by Steve Peters on Twitter or whatever. Check out the main website here: MegaHardWoodGroup.com

I already have a couple voting shares registered so ping me if you get stuck although it is fairly straightforward at the moment. Good ARG for beginners.

New message from Sawtooth Today's message leads to some scrambled phone taps that you need to decipher to get the registration codes. I'm not sure if it's one per person but I have used the first code in the first message but left the 3 others and more phone tap messages should be posted later.

There should still be codes available for the last 4 days as the first day was just an intro. Clicking on the microphone icons should take you to a new page that has an embedded audio file. On my iPhone I see a small scroll bar with a play button but I assume other browsers may play it automatically or maybe it shows blank. You could try a different browser perhaps.
The public recordings each have clues as to how to locate the "secret" journal message that tells you how to get the day's certificate numbers. Sometimes this requires sending an email, finding a blog entry or decoding another audio file. Once you have the 8 digit code you can enter it on the "contact us" page and register a certificate in your name to allow you to vote on whether or not to boom the moon next Friday.
ETA: I tried Internet Explorer and it failed to show the embedded player but Chrome worked ok on a Windows machine. If you are using IE you can look at the source code and see the .wav or .mp3 file it should be playing.

Newest mission had some plot advancement:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Going through the printer files (I snagged the last registration code [scanner 5] listed, by the way) I found this gem: http://www.bubblebuzz.biz/oijas.pdf TL;DR summary is they're planning on getting rid of William after the vote with the "Boom the Idiot" plan. As you're snagging codes, it's easiest to go through the source code. Scanner files are the registration codes, random text strings are amusing photos, and the pdf is linked above.

I grabbed #8. Not sure how they are keeping track of them but I entered #5 first before I realized that you had already entered it so submitted number 8 right afterwards. I'm sure the lawyers at M. Janderson & Associates can figure it out.

Hidden messages I can't do this one from my phone unless someone can give me an iPhone steganography app. Five pictures presumably with 2 codes hidden in each. Will get back online later tonight hopefully when I have access to a real computer.

This one is a doozy I have tried about a dozen different steganography programs for both PC and Mac but none have yielded any messages using the key hinted at in the latest message. Has anyone had any luck with this one?

Steganography stumper Did anyone every figure out the Steganography clues? I tried with a couple programs as well but had no luck. Did get codes for the QR puzzle (Wednesday) - ping me if anyone needs one before the voting deadline.

I had William see if he remembered anything yesterday that would help with the steganography and he came back with:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
There was another window OPEN on the screen about PUFF Daddy.
I had tried that previously with no luck but tried harder given that hint. I still could not crack any of those codes. If that helps you let me know how you did it.
ETA: That method does work but not with defaults.

Thank you from the PM! Hey folks!
I believe since the game is officially over that I can write a little behind the curtain note here? My dear mods, if I'm wrong please feel free to yank it and let me know where I should do this!
I'm going to spoiler the rest for those of you who might still want to play through it... and as a bonus... by the end of Sept. we should have it up and running as a stand alone 2-week ARG that you can send the n00bs to when they ask you what an ARG is!
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Dave from Synth-Bio Productions (The PM) here for Boom The Moon!
I just wanted to say thank you again for playing. This was our first attempt at a full scale ARG. As most of you know it was a part of Steve Peters Insta-ARG experiment #wwohelium. When we heard about the experiment we thought we'd use it for a team-building exercise and that it would allow us to experiment with a lot of things in the ARG space as well.
Just a little FYI, our 1st official meeting about Boom The Moon! was on August 5th. So we put it all together in just under two weeks. I had worked on some of the basic story and had the twitter characters up before that, but there was no development so to speak before the 5th. Unfortunately, it ended up being the story that got hurt the most by the short time frame. There were a lot of storylines that ended up on the cutting room floor and for that we're sorry. Overall though, I think Boom The Moon! accomplished a lot of what we set out to do.
What we wanted to accomplish were a few different things:
1. Create a fun game that everyone could play and enjoy.
2. Give our definition of what we think ARGs are.
3. Be a beginner ARG, allowing people who have not heard of ARGs to play
4. Through the various puzzles and the game itself, teach newcomers to the genre how to approach ARG's
5. Figure out a way that the game can be replayed.... and used as an intro ARG that people can point to if they have friends who want to learn about ARGs. (This should be up by the end of September)
6. Develop, test and push our Team philosophy and work style with some hard deadlines
7. Find out where the lines are between easy puzzles and hard puzzles, with a deeper look into walking that line in future games therefore being able to include both n00bs and veteran players side by side in upcoming games.
8. FINISH IT. (You know how unusual this actually is
I feel to a varying degree we completed this list. And as a team we are really glad that we did this experiment because of what we learned through the process.
The most basic and important thing we learned is how much you, as players, mean to the game. From you folks who just played one puzzle to the folks who almost got them all, (We still stand by our stegged pics ) It was exciting to wake up each day and see how you guys responded to the game and tackled the puzzles, for that we thank you again.
If you'd like to share any comments or criticism, please feel free to let us know. (The email addresses in the game will remain up and monitored) Once again one of the major reasons for doing this was to learn and find out what works and was fun for the players.
Thanks again for playing! And we look forward to playing with you in the future!
Cheers!
Dave

Boom The Moon I am sure the first thread of this is in the archive because I couldn't seem to find it. Any ways I was just sent this email!
Quote:
Dear Stockholder,
Thank you for your inquiry about current status of The Mega Hard Wood Group. As you know at the end of August 2012 we suffered a horrible tragedy with the brutal murder of our founder and corporate icon William Sawtooth III.
In the intervening months we have launched and are currently conducting our own private investigation into this matter. Unfortunately, this has been made more complicated by the subsequent disappearance of Sawtooth's body immediately following the incident.
We will be in contact as soon we have something concrete to report. Instead of providing you with something minor and outdated, we want to make sure that all of our stockholders receive the most accurate, correct and up to date information we can provide.
We understand your concern and please know that we are working hard to to make sure that you will have the best possible experience as befit that of a majority stockholder in William Sawtooth III's Person-Corp.
Sincerely,
The Legal Team of M. Janderson and Associates
Sawtooth Murder Investigation Division
~~~~~ Merged this to the proper place. Use the SEARCH feature next time, especially since you knew it was simply moved to archives. Thanks. ~ Pixie
