Try putting some of those links in the body with an image tag so we can help with investigating the issue.

My guess would be you are not trying to link directly to an image but instead to a dynamic page that results in an image. If the URL contains a question mark (?), it most likely will not work.

I am having the same issue and now I can't even access my avatar page on my profile at all. It just redirects me back to the main page. GRRRR
