Hello. Sorta sleepy so am leaving this puzzle for y'all to also puzzle on further. G'Luck wished to all.

Greetings Sylvana,

Is the next card in the celtic-cross reading intended to be #8 Strength?

In reply The Cardkeepers wrote:
You are correct about 8, but not Strength Smile

ETA: Am awaiting an email reply from Sylvana if the correct card is the eight of swords due to that letteropener. Laughing Other lively, more awake ideas are always welcome.

Michael Lawler is definitely a Sword. But which one?
This is very reveling
Quote:
Swords

Also known as knives, daggers, blades.

Element: AIR. Some decks have it as Fire. If AIR then:

Swords represent the mind and the voice. Here is the suit of sharp ideas and sharp tongues, of thinking things through or thinking/saying too much. Swords are cleverness and a love of facts, they are "swordplay" in the sense of solving problems, performing calculations, discussing and debating.

The suit is also, however, about braggarts and gossips, liars and slanderers. Which, not surprisingly, also makes Swords the suit of anxieties, worries, problems and troubles. A sword is a weapon with a cutting edge and sharp point. Every time we use our mind and express our thoughts we run the risk of getting into a swordfight. And in this day of global communications, there are a great many ways to get into such fights.

In the tarot, the Sword is that mightier "pen" standing for writing, research, television, radio and the internet. It is all forms of information and so the card of science, mathematics and medicine as well as debate, analysis and journalism.

Thoughts breeze into your mind. They are made into words and those words are given breath or are written up. Messages fly through the air, and bring back responses. Sometimes this may result in a swordfight, other times in swords crossing together in unity, an agreement reached.

Something else important to note.

Swords Element: AIR. (Some decks have it as Fire)
Wands Element: FIRE (though some decks have it as Air)
So which deck are we officially with in this respect?

There's an infinity sign above the magician on the card. Is that what eight refers to?

Just to clarify

Book + letter opener = 8 of swords

or is the letter opener the sword needed to complete the magicians tools?

Or both?

I was stuck on the book being the infinity symbol found on magician cards.

Lynn/Jessie1326 was assigned The Sun via email (Google doc), but since she is not on the official page I guess she didnt answer the round call.

I seem to recall that in a lot of decks, many of the cards have infinity symbols above their heads. In Rider-Waite however, only The Magician and Strength have one, as far as I can tell.

I'm kinda annoyed that if Anna's mom knows, who FD is why can't she just tell her. Yeah, I know that it's part of the mystery and game, but it's still annoying Smile
And in that one blog post she did say 'who', no 'what', so it probably doesn't mean the Fire Department.

EDIT: So, I searched the meaning of Eight of Swords and found this.

Quote:
A woman is tied and blindfolded within a cage of swords. This is the "damned if you do, damned if you don't," card. The Querent is in a situation where they're afraid to move. If they move, they'll get cut. However, the ropes that bind them, the blindfold over their eyes, are their own fears, keeping them still, immobile. And so the longer they stay, the more they constrain and entrap themselves. Ever been in a situation where you're afraid to say anything, so afraid that you second guess yourself, end up saying nothing, tying yourself in knots? But speaking up is going to get you cut to ribbons? That's this card. The Querent must have the strength to endure the cuts, else they'll stay trapped. They must move, for the longer they let the situation continue, the worse it will get.

I don't know if it's already confirmed that Eight of Swords is correct, but I just thought to throw this here.

You are correct that the 8 of swords will be the next card to come into play. Not sure exactly when. That will be up to Anna.

The Letter Opener February 21, 2013
Anna went by the university again after school, this time to see if Mike would let her borrow his letter opener. But when she got to his office there was a note saying he was away until Monday, which was days away. Anna sighed. She hated having to wait.

When she walked by the front office she saw that the usual secretary wasn't at her desk, and that there was a student worker at the front counter, a girl wearing ripped jeans and reading a copy of On the Road.

Anna walked up to the girl and said, "Hey, I'm Mike Lawler's niece and left something in his office. Can I grab the key and run up? I just be a sec."

The girl looked at Anna for a moment with a steady gaze. She hesitated. Then she grinned and said, "Sure, here ya go."

Anna grabbed the key ring and walked away quickly before the girl could change her mind. Her heart was pounding. She got to Mike's office and opened the door, then closed it behind her so that nobody would see her rifling through his desk.

She couldn't find the letter opener anywhere at first; his office was a mess. She carefully sifted through piles on his desk, making sure everything went back exactly the way it was. She hoped that when he came back he wouldn't notice that anything was missing. Finally, she spied the tip of it poking out from beneath a pile of new mail which had been tossed haphazardly in the center of the desk. As she reached for it and began to slowly pull it out the entire stack slid sideways and fell to the floor. Anna froze. Her heart almost stopped.

Finally, after holding her breath and not moving for a minute, Anna let out a huge sigh and bent down to pick up the pile. She straightened up to put it everything back when she saw what was on top.

A letter.

From her father.

Postmarked that week.

Anna could only stare at the letter for a long time. She turned it over. It was sealed with wax. Finally, she stuck it in her backpack, and headed for the door. At the last minute she went back to the desk and grabbed the letter opener. Then she slipped back into the hallway, carefully closing the door behind her.

Many cultures believe that we sometimes see spirits that manifest themselves in our dreams and take on familiar faces in order to trick us into believing they are benign.

Of course if we were to apply this logic here we are actually helping the spirit win and the logical course of action would be to do nothing or try to get Anna NOT to help. Something I certainly do not want to do right now. Wink

I think we will get some answers with that letter. But let's sleep with one eye open for now.
