Seeing that in Tarot deck High Priestess is holding a tora, I thought that maybe Aunt Ruth is the Keeper of High Priestess. In Cici's story her aunt gave her a scroll, so maybe Ruth has something for Anna. I emailed Winter about this and will tell you what she says.

Coffee !!BEAUT & clever Elethamei!! Interesting info, HappyPhantom. If you have Google links I'll be sure to read 'em. Below is from the Tarot Resources on the blog:

About what THE HIGH PRIESTESS holds the author wrote:
...Scroll with the word Tora on it (either the Jewish Torah or an anagram of "Tarot," where the final letter is left unseen).

When looking into the history of Tarot, you will see that the word itself (supposedly) is derived from the word Torah.... if I am not mistaken, I believe back in the day the Tarot was created as a way to tell the religious stories that were being suppressed by the newer rising Christian faiths. A lot of "Pagan" beliefs and practices were forced underground, but then later adopted by Christian leaders. Tarot, Torah and the Bible all share the same stories and the same symbolism.

ETA: Freemasonry and other such 'societies with secrets' are mystery schools that teach these stories and symbolism, and the occult power that is supposedly gained with such knowledge. (merely the way I see it after years of research)

Alright, I'm going to jump in here just a bit.

The first tarot deck that anyone has been able to find is from the 15th century and was made for a wealthy Italian family. While there are several copies in existence, no complete ones are left.

The word "tarot" itself derives from the Italian word tarrochi and they both referred to a card game involving trumps. Tarot cards that were used for divination didn't exist until after the invention of the printing press, when cards became more widely available to the lower classes.

The cards themselves gradually gained archetypal images and meanings, so it wasn't until the 18th century that they were used for divination and readings like we know them today. Religion is a very important thing to most cultures, which is why we have a lot of that type of symbolism in some of the earlier decks.

So, now that my rambling is done...I think Elethamei is right on this one. The High Priestess in most decks does hold the Torah (an example of that religious symbolism! In the Tarot of Marseilles, that card is La Papessa, the Popess.)

Side note: I fully understand what many people think of the Freemasons, and that's perfectly fine by me. My father is a Freemason and I was in Rainbow Girls, an offshoot for teen girls, so I totally get where the whole "secret society conspiracies" thing comes from. But I can also tell you this...my father wouldn't touch tarot or anything supposedly connected to the occult with a ten foot pole... Wink

according to wiki:
"The occult (from the Latin word occultus "clandestine, hidden, secret") is "knowledge of the hidden"" This is what I mean when I use that term.
I am not trying to say that freemasons practice witchcraft, nor anything that might be construed as negative. Also lower levels aren't granted the same information as higher levels are. The very rituals that you have to preform to attain membership and levels are an acting out of some of those allegorical stories we find in the Bible, Torah and teachings in older religions (and in turn the Tarot) It's all symbolism and mathematics really. I am not trying to fuel anything negative, (like I said before it was merely the way I see it) I had freemasons in the family also. Just saying that such socities with secrets teach the meanings of that hidden, or 'occult' symbolism. Interesting also, the word apocalypse (Greek too) translates to uncovering, or disclosure of knowledge.
ETA: on the history of Tarot cards, as far as concrete facts, everything seems to be speculative.
Added: I did find this forum that is dedicated to such discussions, here is a page I found interesting.

Excellent work! You definitely think like a Keeper. You are indeed correct that Aunt Ruth is The High Priestess. And you are wise to notice correlations between Anna's story and Cici's story. They may have lived at different times, but they are connected. We will hear more about Cici soon.

Thank you, I appreciate the clarification there, HP! While I may have jumped the gun a bit, I'm just so used to people assuming that the Freemasons secretly want to take over the world or something (National Treasure, anyone?).

On a similar note, I find it very interesting how people associate tarot with the "occult" (aka witchcraft), when so much of the original symbolism came from such religions as Judaism and Christianity. Case in point about people making assumptions right there, I suppose...

And nice job Elethamei! On with the story!

Yeah my bad... I have a clarity problem. I forget such words carry heavy connotations and multi-meanings. I have to admit that when I first started looking into such things I was a big 'conspiracy theorist', but things aren't as black and white as they seem.

While we were happily conducting readings for our dear Keepers, we were interrupted by the bell and a quite urgent visitor.

We are dealing with her now. Time will tell.

We ask the Keepers to be patient. We will resumed readings when we can.

As for the visitor, her importance to the Keepers may be vital.

We'll pass along details when we have them.

So, very quickly here, I sent an e-mail to Winter about my fear of speaking (I have social phobia/social anxiety disorder and have always had difficulty verbally communicating with others, to put it as matter-of-factly as possible. That is kind of why I like to write fictional stories and the like...it's my way of expressing myself).

They sent me back this e-mail:

Quote:
Dearest S.P.I.,

In response to what we read about your goal we have drawn The Page of Swords:

The Card:

The Page of Swords is quick-minded but cool and deep. He takes in everything but doesn't speak unnecessarily. When reversed he can represent a fear of speaking.

The Reading:

In light of your fear, we ask you to keep in mind that talking is often overrated in our society. Some people are all talk and no action. Their words can be empty and without substance. Not talking allows you to hone your listening skills and sense of perception.

However, you have an intelligent and sensitive nature, and may suffer from a lack of outlet for your ideas and feelings. We encourage you to express yourself in other ways, such as through writing or a visual medium: painting, collage, photography.

Love Always,
Sivvy, Ginny, Annes, Melia, & Norma

I know it's not real, but this e-mail made me feel a lot better, and the reading felt personal to my life. Some bias in my mind, I'm sure, but... Wink

At any rate, WAY TO GO ELETHAMEI! Pony?! (This pony is for you) ((I hope this pony isn't an insult in the realm of ARGs Laughing))

interesting discussions so far on these new developments. You're all doing great! ^_^ I'm sorry I can't be of much use myself, but I'm still here -- lurking about like a fly. Cool

Do we yet know what we might do with these readings of ours?

We thank you for your patience, dear ones. We have spoken to our visitor and she was quite agitated at first but eventually became quite helpful. You may remember her from the other blog, her name is J.E.

We weren't originally going to show you J.E.'s blog but she is very insistent and also very important to us, so we honored her request.

We will reveal more about J.E. soon, but in the meantime we have some questions for you:

1. How many keys have you found?

2. What holiday is near?

3. What are some ways in which people might celebrate this holiday?

The other blog?

new blog post ....

Breaking and Entering
March 24, 2013
"To hell with this!" said Clara, taking off her jacket and climbing the fence to the backyard. "I don't need a key. I'm breaking in."

Anna called after to her sister to be careful, then paced around the front yard with Martin. In a few minutes the front door opened. Clara stood in the doorway grinning. "Once you have it, you always have it."

They searched the house and everything looked fine. There was no evidence that Aunt Ruthie had been harmed or had left in a hurry. The house was in meticulous order, the food in the fridge was fresh, the bed was made, and her keys and purse were gone.

They coninued to poke around looking for clues when Anna saw it. A strange note on the refrigerator.

It read:

Dearest Anna,

How you succeed in the following challenge will determine the course of your life. This challenge will not be easy; it will test everything about who you are and who you are becoming as a young woman.

In honor of the coming holiday, we are asking you to fill our basket. What you seek is of utmost importance to us.

The outcome of this challenge is the difference between life and death. Your life, the life of your parents and sister, and most of all, the life of your aunt.

The first key to this challenge is to figure out what we want.
