Well, I dunno about anything Doug Jones himself said, but Trosephim did say that Doug Jones will be playing The Operator, and that it's set in the same universe, so I've been taking it that they will be calling him that.

I suggest more Doug Jones pictures, as they are now on topic.

I don't think they'll be calling it anything. They haven't actually given it a name in the series proper; they just call it "that thing". Maybe in the credits they'll list it as "Slender Man/The Operator", but it's not gonna be important.

Unless it's a movie where they already know he exists and there's a set name in the universe for it (like people in the universe blatantly call it The Operator) I can see them just keeping with the theme of "that thing". Marble Hornets fans already know it's The Operator and anyone else seeing it will know it's Slender Man so that's all that matters.

I was wondering about the title myself, especially because Troy's blog post says the title, trailer, and release have yet to be revealed but will be soon. My thinking is that the story will only be tangentially, at best, related to the web series and the 2006 movie. Doug Jones podcast with Nerdist confirms it'll be found footage, so we have that nailed down.

I'm thinking separate characters, a few nods to the series, similar progression of events, more focus on horror than mystery (thank God), maybe even TTA or some similar analogue, and a nice generic title like The Operator or The Student Film or The Found Footage Feats of Tallface McBackground.

Edit: Found this on Doug Jones's site: http://www.thedougjonesexperience.com/

A MESSAGE FROM DOUGIE

BIG MOVIE ANNOUNCEMENT ... FINALLY!

Am I Playing "Slenderman"?????

I've been hinting for some months now that I filmed a "secret project" over the summer. The feature film was actually announced in Daily Variety back in February 2013, but my involvement has been a well-kept secret .... until Yesterday's official Halloween announcement (link below).

Many of you have been speculating that I might be playing the internet folklore legend "Slenderman" .... well, not exactly.

So here's the "skinny" ...

A movie version of the internet web series hit MARBLE HORNETS (60+ Million hits on YouTube) is now in post production by Mosaic Media Group (who brought you everything from ELF and GET SMART to TALLADEGA NIGHTS, STEP BROTHERS, LAND OF THE LOST, and a host of others!) with Mosaic's legendary Jimmy Miller producing. The feature film version of MARBLE HORNETS has a working title of THE OPERATOR, and yes, I am indeed playing "The Operator" ... a character who is inspired by the iconic "Slenderman", but we are not calling him "Slenderman," we are calling him "The Operator."

The Operator is similar in look to Slenderman, and absolutely inspired by him, even to the point that the Slenderman creator and rights holders are on board with their blessing and contractual credit ... BUT ... The Operator is different in that he does not have tree branch hands, nor does he abduct children into the forest, as the Slenderman legend goes. The Operator has his own, unique powers, motivations, look, and agenda that you have 70-some episodes of MARBLE HORNETS to familiarize yourselves with before our feature film hits your local theater sometime later in 2014.

I was a fan of the MARBLE HORNETS web series already, so when I got a tweet on the Twitter from one of the web series creators, Tim Sutton, asking if I'd want to be involved, I got very excited at the chance! But we held off on me joining the web series, as the feature film deal with Mosaic Media Group was in the works.

This movie is directed by James Moran, who I had already worked with on QUARANTINE. His love of this character, and his brilliant sensibilities in bringing nail-biting suspense to the big screen will totally satisfy you! I'm so proud to be a part of this horrifying world now!!!

The creators (and writers, directors, producers, actors) of the MARBLE HORNETS web series are all followable on Twitter: Tim Sutton @FlamingButtWind ; Troy Wagner @whatatroy ; Joseph DeLage III @GeauxJoe .

So HERE is that official announcement with a photo from the film set, found on Marble Hornets' co-creator Troy Wagner's Blog.

Very Excited, and THERE'S LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -- Dougie

So the working title is The Operator, and he's making a distinction that his character is not called The Slender Man. Interesting.

Something just occurred to me. We don't know when it's coming out, but I have a strange feeling the date will be April 4, 2014. This series has a thing with the number four, after all. Also, despite initially being really, really worried about the prospect of a movie (well, I still am a little bit), is it bad that I'm actually kinda excited about it now?

Well, I don't think we should get that specific. Yet.

He said sometime later in 2014. I'm taking to mean late in 2014

I would love it if they released it on Alex's birthday. But as it's a horror movie, it's very likely it'll be released in the autumn, around Halloween.

Didn't someone mention that Tim said the series should be finished by next October? So maybe the movie is coming out then.

(I could be wrong though. I just recall seeing that somewhere.)

If I understood correctly, they just said it'd be done before the next GMX, which will be next October.

That blog post by Doug Jones basically just made my day, thank you for sharing it here! Can we please get some pictures of Doug? I am not as familiar with him as some of you seem to be.

Made my day as well. Except for the "he does not abduct children into the forest" part, because that damages one of my theories. As for pictures of Doug...

...Wait, no, that can't be right at all. Just a sec...

Y'know, I can really see how he'll look like TO. He's got the build, alright.
