I was hoping the Marble Hornets movie would be a progression like District 9 was from Alive in Joburg. My point being that District 9 was popular. ;-;

I agree. That said, didn't the original Paranormal Activity have like no budget and no marketing and end up being a huge hit anyway? Or am I remembering wrong? Good marketing would be great and all, but word-of-mouth can be a pretty strong force sometimes.

We'll see. I'd like it to release on Alex's birthday because reasons, but I can wait until fall if it'll get more attention that way. Provided it's good. If it's bad I'd rather it go unnoticed and not damage MH's reputation.

They have to have the right marketing campaign...heck, maybe its already being marketed--perhaps there's some kind of secret code in the totheark videos? Maybe that's why they don't make as much sense lately.

It's not really marketing if it in no way draws attention to the movie. TTA codes would only catch the attention of people in this fanbase (all of whom already know of the film's existence), and wouldn't do anything to really improve or worsen sales. There clearly hasn't been any explicit marketing yet, and if there's any secret viral marketing going on, the only way it would get any attention to new viewers (who are the ones that marketing is needed for to begin with) would be if it's outside of the existing MH and TTA stuff.

What happens if the movie's just some underground indie film, like the original Marble Hornets is. There wouldn't be much a point of making one.

Then I get to watch a Slender Man movie at midnight in a movie theater full of other huuuuuge nerrrrds and it's still really really awesome I don't even care.

Speaking of watching the movie with a crowd full of nerds, anyone up for arranging an Unforum con-type thing to meet up and see the movie when it comes out?

I highly doubt it'll be a Halloween release. Bigger horror titles typically release around Halloween and Marble Hornets is really a smaller title Even with the Slender Man fanbase around it, it probably wouldn't be able to compete with any bigger titles.

I hope it isn't released in summer, where it will be utterly drowned by blockbusters, and Halloween will be playing it risky. That's why I'm assuming it will be sometime late in the Spring.

As for the Marked Ones, has anyone seen that? The trailer looked like it had some scary moments, but the main character's reaction to a bite mark on his hand looked like terrible acting. If that kind of movie beats out Marble Hornets, I will be very disappointed.

I'd love to, but I doubt that I live anywhere near anyone from here. Although, that reminds me, will this be a big enough movie that it'll be in local theaters? I live in a pretty small town, and I don't want to have to drive an hour to Toledo.

Agreed. If they were marketing this movie, we would be the first to know.

EDIT: double post. I'm sorry.

Was only being half-serious. If people actually did want to do that, I dunno if anyone's near enough me for me to go anyway.

And I certainly hope it'll reach local theaters, I don't want to have to drive too far either.

If it's not in local theaters, closest theater that would probably play it is about 50 miles from me, and it's one of those Tinseltown chain theaters so it'll cost me an arm, a leg, and my firstborn child to get in.

Well if the makers of Paranormal Activity are making it, then they might need this movie to re-claim their fame after their recent Marked Ones movie which I saw did not do to well.

It's not the makers of Paranormal Activity. The only person as far as I know that was involved in Paranormal Activity that is involved in the Marble Hornets movie is James Moran. He's directing Marble Hornets, but he was the Assistant Director of Paranormal Activity 2-4. Nobody else major from Paranormal Activity is involved in this.

You also have to remember there's already another Paranormal Activity coming out in October, so if they did a Halloween release they would have to compete with that too.

EDIT: Shashawnee Hall, Graham Clark, and Blair Bomar I've confirmed are in it (Just making sure IMDB is as accurate as possible. One thing I've noticed though, Shahawnee tweeted that he met with James Moran on the set for "The Operator". Doug Jones also called the movie's working title "The Operator". However both Bomar and Clark's resumes state the title as "Marble Hornets".

Oh? So springtime is actually the plan afterall? Something tells me that this won't be super-heavily marketed. Which doesn't necessarily doom it, nor is it the end of the world if it ends up being a smaller cult film.
