When I see the film I'll make my own judgement. From what you've said it really sounds like you saw some BS fan made movie to be honest.

The actual film for Marble Hornets was confirmed by Doug Jones to be "The Operator".

As for your "figure" that the budget was around $8k, I call utter BS. That $8 wouldn't even cover Doug Jone's salary for the movie let alone anything else.

yeah I recant that number. I thought I read it on imdbpro, but I think I was remembering something else. Either way, it didn't really look "cheap", although we've been treated so some really fantastic looking stuff in some of the series online, so it's hard not to compare. I guess the distinction is, this is not technically slender man, and you can't to in expecting him to do some of those slendy tricks we're used to seeing nowadays.

Agreed. I refuse to accept that Joseph and Troy would fuck up bad enough that an OG MH fan would be unsatisfied with the outcome until I see it with my own two eyes.

They promised the movie would be good, would not make the series look bad and/or different and that they would not betray us, the original fans.

And what you described sounded nothing like what was on the IMDB page, are you sure it wasn't maybe a rough cut or like what everyone is thinking here a fan movie that was good enough to get a screening?

to be clear, it doesn't mess up the original series' legacy or betray fans. I mean, the MH guys didn't write the script or direct it, their input was ultimately limited. I'm not a fan of found footage movies, but I'm a big slender fan (hence my username), and I think this is a "decent" found footage movie, on par with the first paranormal activity, maybe. but as far as servicing the slender verse and the cool mythology that has grown around it, there's really none of that here.

I don't think anyone here will hate it, but you probably won't enjoy it more than the YouTube series, and you might not find it very MH-ish. remember in a movie, they can't have the creep factor of posting a seemingly innocuous video, and having viewers search for the creepy, blink-and-youll-miss-it slender appearance in the deep background. the movie has to put him front and center at all times.

and no, for the very last time, I go to screenings in LA all the time. this was done by a prominent screening company that studios use. I just saw an Adam sandler/Drew Barrymore movie and they had us fill out comment cards, and asked some of us to stay behind and give feedback. same thing for this one. it's definitely an early cut, and usually after this stage they go back for a few reshoots. things can still change somewhat, but it will remain mostly the same at this point.

This was the description that came alone with the movie invite:

THE OPERATOR is based on a very popular web series called MARBLE HORNETS about a pale-faced man in a black and white suit (The Operator) who's tied to the mysterious disappearance of a young filmmaker. The series has over 80 episodes to date with over 65 million views on youtube.

According to Reddit user "empire_strikes_back", there was a screening of the movie, under the name "The Operator", last night in Hollywood.

In response to my comment, this person elaborated on this, by saying,

Quote:
It was one of those audience test screenings. The invite for it came to me Monday, but with the holiday I didn't see it until yesterday morning. I wouldn't have made it in time anyway, but thought someone else here may have gone.

If that's true, then...didn't realize the movie was that far along in postproduction.

Either IMDB, an entire site based on movie reviews and descriptions is wrong, or you, some random person who went to see it, who offer no proof, and doesn't really seem to know what he saw is wrong.

Me thinks you didn't see the real movie.

wow, you guys are so cynical. TRUST ME, I SAW THE "REAL" MH MOVIE.

someone posted this in the other thread... another person who knew about the screening -- http://www.reddit.com/r/marblehornets/comments/1vtzdf/did_anyone_see_the_screening_of_the_feature_film/

Still, we'll make out own judgements when we see the film for ourselves. If they're doing test Audience screenings, there's still PLENTY of time to tweak stuff around as needed. Also you're credibility is in question, because first off on the MH Movie thread you claim the movie's budget was only $8,000. We all know that's BS and secondly, you're new here. That instantly puts anything you say under scrutiny because no one knows who you are.

To be honest, I don't think I can put too much stock in a reddit thread. If there were a test screening I'd almost think Trospehim would have said something after invites were sent out. Something like "Hey everyone in the LA area! Keep an eye on your mailboxes for an invite to the test- screening blah blah balkhh awddasldfjslfj"

it's not something you can just apply for or keep a lookout for. the only way to receive an invite is to be on a regular screenings list from having seen others in the past. sometimes they'll hand out passes outside movie theaters or on Hollywood blvd, but this one was pretty quiet. and even still, you had to be between 15 and 34 to attend this screening (and also have seen a certain amount of horror films from a list), so if you weren't in the demographic they were looking for, you wouldn't even get an invite in the first place.

this was also a test screening for feedback, and while they ask you beforehand if you were familiar with the series, they definitely didn't want to pack the theatre with the hardcore fans. they wanted to get a range of opinions from the general public.

Listen, I'm a natural skeptic, so I have to ask a couple of questions before I read your post, as I want to know if this is actually real or not.

1. What city did you see this in?
2. Who was present at the screening besides audience?
3. What company sponsored this?
4a. May we see your screener pass? Every test audience member gets one.
4b. If you threw yours out, what information was on it?
5. How did you obtain a screener pass?
6. What was on the questionnaire post-screening?

I am a professional filmmaker who has attended many test screenings and I have yet to hear word of this screening, so naturally I want to fact-check this before reading your pre-lim review.
