the mods aren't going to lock this thread, there's no need. I'm not being inflammatory, and this is a legit, on-topic thread. you can choose to believe what you want, but the only flaming is coming from (some not all) of you.

to those that know what a movie screening actually is, and are focusing on the content of the thread and not all this meta ridiculousness about whether or not I'm some trolling EMH fanboy (which, um... don't people have more pressing things to do than that?), all I can say is thank you. at least you won't be embarrassed when the movie comes out.

I hope it's not because the slenderoffan was less than enthusiastic about what he saw... Confused

Aren't you breaking the NDA by saying anything here?

He blatantly said in his post that he wasn't a big fan of Marble Hornets, and he complained in it about a bunch of stuff that should have been self explanatory (like the meaning behind the Operator Symbol and why people draw it, people not calling the faceless guy in the background The Operator or Slenderman, etc etc etc). IF he did see the screening, to me he's not a good candidate to really review it. To me the actual hardcore fans of the series are going to be the ones to really decide the movie's fate because we're the ones who are going to critique it to hell and back.

Hehe well for what it's worth, they asked us to rate the movie from "Very Good" through down to "Poor", and I said "Good". I'd love to see them do some effects in post on The Operator's face, or something... just to give him a little more motion. I also felt like the initial scenes of Milo in his house, setting up cameras everywhere took just a little too long. that's the only place it really drags, and it's a surprisingly quick movie, maybe 90 minutes.

one clever thing they did to incorporate multiple cameras and angles (like they cut around with in the series) was to have the characters connect their cameras to projectors, and have them put up on the wall in real time during the scene. there's one really creepy slenderman moment that plays around with this, but I won't spoil it any more than that!

@ztakk, you're probably right that I'm not the "best" person to review a MH movie because I only know the early part of the series, but I guess I would have hoped the movie might delve into some of the mythology more, since we can assume a lot of people watching the movie will have no frame of reference for MH or The Operator. Is it a part of the series that once he appears to you, an operator symbol will burn into your skin? I don't remember that from the MH episodes that I watched

In the series, there's something similar to that. Heavy Operator encounters can result in grey shadows around the victim's eyes.

I didn't really have time to read it. I think it's more a courtesy to the producers not to say anything rather than a serious legal matter. that said, I only gave my very cursory, vague overall impressions. I wanted to share with this community because I know how hotly anticipated it is around here.

I hope this covers all further NDA discussions, because that's a bit of a tired conversation.

All you need to do is fake an email to yourself and put some black lines over it in paint.

Proof is nice. I'm a skeptic in all walks of life. I'd appreciate it if you provided any sort of proof, because your tone sounds super defensive which leads people to see you as a liar regardless of the truth, it's psychology.

The hardcore fans will have essentially no impact. Common mistake to assume that fans who are very active on a forum have increased influence over what they're fans of. Not really the case.

No. Anyway, I wouldn't expect the movie to delve into mythology at all. If anything, I'd expect them to do that with the webseries, but they've always been very cagey about who/what the Operator is, so if they invented an origin for the movie or whatever I'd actually find it kinda cheap.

I always thought that was just from not sleeping due to paranoia.

ah, ok. well in the movie, that's his MO now. I haven't seen Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, but it kind of brought that to mind. eventually all the main characters become "marked", and it either stays with them until they die, or the operator finishes with them. I do think it would've been interesting to know more (within the film) about how that symbol came to be associated with him (even the characters in the film comment that it seems like a not-very-creative rip off of the Zodiac killer's symbol)

That right there is another alarm. "I didn't really have time to read it." Then there's a good freaking chance saying ANYTHING in a highly accessible forum such as this is ground for breaking the NDA. The studios don't want people saying anything about the movies to the general public, whether good or bad about the movie before it's out. Otherwise it really causes people to either not see the movie at all, or go into it with an already affected opinion.

Ditto, paranoia or losing time and not remembering how long its been.
