I honestly think its a good sign that Doug Jones was called back in to do some reshoots. I think this shows that someone behind the scenes really wants to pull some quality out of the film and during editing and post production just found some things to be missing. Also, this just implies MORE Operator - something that's a relief for me, because watching Paranormal Activity lately made me realize just how vacant the shots are. Clever, but vacant. This is good news.

Yes there's news and I'm not just bumping this to make a dumb point.
Released on James Moran's Facebook:
Ok so, the movie I directed based on the #marblehornets web series bad guy #theOperator is coming out, very soon. I can't give some details but there will be a new title and it will be available on VOD on April 7, yes, this year and then in a limited theatrical release on May 15. More details to come but just waiting for the marketing to kick in.

Wondering which VOD platforms it will be on. I'd love to watch this on my PS4 or Xbox One.

"limited theatrical release" sounds scarier than the actual film itself. its gonna tank

Lots of movies start in a limited release and then get upgraded to a wide one. I don't really see why that's a problem. The movie could be shit, sure- that's been a risk since day one- but if anything it will do less damage if it gets a limited release than if it started right off with a wide release. If it's good it'll probably get a wider release anyway.

That's in like two weeks. Shouldn't there already be marketing/details if it's that soon? Or do they really not want anyone else to notice?

but if it's not getting a worldwide release right at the get go, then it probably means no distributors are interested in it, which doesn't look too good. distribution companies usually get an advance screening of the film and if it speaks to them then they'll do domestic and/or international screenings.
I know that "limited" theatrical release is likely screenings just inside the US, which sucks. I'll know I'll be able to get it on VOD but I love the novelty of going to the cinema. I don't want us to have to start a movement to get it screened everywhere like The Last Unicorn.

Well, at least I know when I can finally see it. I don't mind not seeing it in a theater, but it'd be nice if it had a wider release for the THAClets to get increased exposure. Also, money.
Wonder why they had to change the title, though. Marketing issue?

I'll probably still enjoy it and notice all the little nods to MH (if any). If they do release on the PS4, I'd snatch that up day one. Hopefully even a DVD/ or (hopeful thinking) a bluray would be awesome.

I just need to know if Moran pulled it off. Did he strive for the Lovecraftian narrative style THAC drove at or did he cave in to the dollarthirtsy tropes of the Paranormal Activity series? If the latter I fear a lack of interest from the general public as the found footage genre has done enough rounds in the cinema as of late and Slenderman simply isn't popular anymore.

From what I've seen, it's the Lovecraftian narrative model

I don't see this doing terribly well in theaters, perhaps why it's a limited release. The ship has sailed big time on The Slender Man and found footage as far as general interest goes. I'm still gonna see this no matter what, but just about anything else having to do with The Slender Man seems a bit played out to me.

I do agree that MH ended just as it feels that Slenderman was kinda fizzling out.
Perhaps the 44 series will involve a Chuck E. Cheese employee. That's totally scary no matter what. Noooo question.

Funny you should say Chuck E. Cheese....because who became popular just as Slenderman went out?
