Obvious conclusions are lamer.

I hate twists for the sake of a fucking twist. It's why M. Night is a joke. A twist is only great if you can watch it again afterwords and go, "Oh fuck! It all makes sense!"

Not to mention the fact that Joseph isn't a big fan of the random twist

I couldn't agree more. It's for this reason that movies such as Fight Club succeed, while others such as The Village fail. Every time I rewatch Fight Club, I pick up a different clue to the plot twists.

In Joseph's own words: "If you rely on the novelty of a twist to validate your creative work, it didn't have much merit in the first place." Of course, we don't know how much this opinion has changed since then, but for now we shouldn't expect some huge twist.

I think that Brian is Hoody, and Hoody is totheark. I believe Brian makes the most sense, because of his connections to both Alex and Tim, and the prominent role he played in the Marble Hornets production.

Some have suggested Seth, because of his editing skill. I disagree. We've seen that even Tim -someone with no known previous skill or interest in video editing- can do well enough that in entries #77 and 80 we didn't realize it was him and not Jay until the very end. Presumably Brian has had a lot more time to develop the skill.

Also, it seems the creators have put more effort into keeping Brian on our radar; I only remember Seth because people here keep bringing him up.

Although, I have noticed something interesting: if my theory that Brian=Hoody=TTA is true, that would mean that entry #51 is essentially his origin story (Hoody Begins, lol)... and he didn't post a response. That seems very off to me; Jay just posted the video that showed us why TTA is the way he is, and he had nothing to say about it.

That's an interesting observation about the lack of TTA response to 51 Medusa.

TTA doesn't always say anything about entries pertaining to him, though. And he's made it pretty clear that he doesn't want his identity known, so why would he give himself up by responding to a video of his origin and going "LOL LOOK GAIZZ IT'S ME I'M ON TV EVERYONE"?

I mean, without actually identifying himself, I'm not sure what he'd say that would somehow be more interesting or different than the usual cryptic bullshit.

That's kind of my point, though; we didn't even get "the usual cryptic bullshit".

TTA usually responds to an entry that shows us something big. Whether he's really Brian or not, I would argue that video evidence that Alex set Brian up to be attacked by The Operator is a big deal. Not only does it give insight into what likely happened to the other MH cast, it shows that Alex went off the rails years sooner than we thought (remember, #51 was posted after 49, where Alex murdered a complete stranger). It was also the first proof that Alex wasn't just an innocent victim of The Operator.

Complete radio silence from TTA after such a revelation just doesn't seem right.

To be fair, totheark wasn't always posting responses at that time. He posted consistently starting with 34 until after Sidetone, the response to 36. Then he posted Entry 37, essentially giving 36 2 responses, but seemingly to compensate 38 had no response. Neither of course did 37, being a totheark video itself.

That was the start of the inconsistency. 39-43 all had responses, but 44 and 45 did not. 46 had a response, but 47 didnt. then 48 and 49 each had responses, but 49's response, extraction, was the last until season 3. That means 50-52 were all responseless.

So towards the end of season 2 totheark wasn't really posting consistently. Extraction seemed to be totheark's season finale. So it's not unusual that totheark didn't post anything in response to 51. Unless of course we think it should have elicited a reaction.

But of course if it's Seth you could make a similar argument. Sure Entry #22 had two responses, but none of them had to do with Seth or Alex. They both rather directly had to do with Jay going back to Brian's house. It was, rather essentially, "the usual cryptic bullshit".

So I don't think there's anything unusual about totheark not responding since he was responding inconsistently at the time, and I don't think if he did respond it would have been anything referring to Brian, even if he is Brian. And anyway, maybe totheark didn't see 51 as being as revolutionary as we do, if he was there. He'd not learning anything new.

Nor was it revealing anything to Jay that gave away his identity. He'd just risk casting suspicion on himself if he reacted more strongly than usual to that particular entry.

Don't forget about Exit. How could Brian have recorded that?

Well yes, but how could Seth? How could Amy?

Actually, the how's simple. Lots of people own cameras, all it takes is getting up in a tree and filming Alex's car. Considering we don't know where anyone except Jay and Alex were at the time, the "how" doesn't cause any problems. It's the "why" that's troublesome, and that's troublesome for all the TTA candidates.
