New e-mail from Eagler with the subject "Thoughts":
Quote:
Byrdr friends:
I thought about leaking this message to you, but I've been too indirect with the Byrdr community about my feelings. In the spirit of Byrdr's commitment to connecting the world, I've decided to speak to you personally about what's on my mind.
I used to be so confident in Byrdr, so sure it would change the world. Now...I'm not sure. I've triple checked, and my computer definitely has no files anywhere on it. How is this possible? I've been looking through other computers here in the office, no sign of Byrdr on any of them, all I've found is several gigabytes of pdfs with giant Ws on them.
I want to believe that Byrdr is real, I truly do, but I'm losing reason to do so. I wanted Byrdr to be a service that would connect people, so why do I feel more disconnected from it than ever? In fact, the more I think about it, the more I'm coming to a conclusion about Byrdr's true purpose, the reason it actually exists.
I think that Byrdr is some sort of coping mechanism, a way to avoid dealing with a deeper problem. I'm wondering if rather than fixing your problems, Byrdr is the problem. It's a blanket that you use to hide yourself from the truth, a prison that keeps you from seeing the world for what it really is.
Please, to anyone reading this, I implore you: do not use Byrdr. It will not connect you to others, it will not help you find what you are looking for. If you feel a need to use Byrdr I urge you to instead get out, go exploring, find yourself, don't look to Byrdr for solutions. Do not let yourself be trapped, you can find a way out, I promise.
This will be my last message.
DO NOT USE BYRDR.
James Eagler

I wrote a quick python script that will find all the 4-digit numbers that return names from the site (byrdr.com/####)
Here's the script, if you want to run it on your own
http://pastebin.com/Gg9kbkfP
And here are the results:
http://pastebin.com/g3FiF15Q
There are almost 2500 names. Not sure if useful or not, hopefully one of you guys can get something out of it.
Edit: there are about 40 occurrences of the name William. Hrm.
Edit2: I'm just trying some weird stuff at this point. I tried calculating the differences between each url (byrdr.com/0009 - byrdr.com/0001 = 8 ) to see if there's some sort of pattern there, but I don't see it. Anyways, here's the raw data, in case anyone else can make anything of it

Also, there are people with 5 digit numbers too
http://byrdr.com/99721
http://byrdr.com/99735
By the way, I'm not sure but this can be simply the list of the subscribers. I couldn't find my name on the list (it's a pretty rare name since it's both Turkish and an uncommon name) but it may not exist in 4-digit numbers

I thought about that, but all they ask for is an email address. There's no way to get names from just that..
Anyways, 5 digit numbers kind of ruins that thought then, I guess. Ah well.

Actually, the subscription page does ask for first and last names, but these are not mandatory fields (:

Ah! Good to know. I really doubt that he has over a billion users signed up right now (or even a thousand, for that matter): http://byrdr.com/99721123130123124129

music.mp3 Here's the file music.mp3 from Eagler's desktop.
I reversed it, and it sounds wonderful.

Digging through the emails, I found
"Case #4965..." http://byrdr.com/volumes/users/BBilly/Inbox/01A%20message%20from%20the%20Internal%20Investigations%20Department.email
Enter 4965 at the phone number. Takes you to Byrdr lost and found. "Lost and Found."
Listening now!

Huh. Whoever is running this just removed that file from the server. Here's a screenshot of it, though, for future reference.

Awesome! Digging through Eagler's documents I found a file called fishing.txt which seemed to contain nonsense characters.
I changed the file extension to a number of different ones to see if I could figure out what it is, and I got it!
If you change the extension to .gmk it becomes a Game Maker file, which contains the source to Vlambeer's first prototype of Radical Fishing!!!
I built it into an exe and you can download and mess around with it here if you don't have Game Maker: http://www.pacifistgames.com/files/fishing.exe

Nice! Digging through the game resources now...
Edit: not seeing anything really useful. The test text uses the name "Billy" or "Billie" a lot, but that's about it..

There doesn't appear to be anything special hidden in the game's resources, pretty neat regardless.
