It's pretty big for just a silly spoof website. I don't know what it is a viral for, or ARG about, or anything but some helpful links:

Consumerist article about it

Local News {WYFF 4} article on the billboards

The Escapist Mag article on it all

Their Twitter page

Their Facebook page

Terrance Woodburrow's Facebook page

THIS YouTube video of someone using the jetpack, posted by a Chad McKinney who just joined YT on March 6th and only has this video.

ETA: theory I keep seeing is this is a viral for Verizon's Jetpack hotspot - however Verizon claims they have NOTHING to do with it. If that IS what it is a viral for, they are going to get a backlash.

I signed up for information

The future is now! I can't wait till launch - GET IT? HA!
{sidenote, in my head I totally said that like ALF}
the auto response on the page said

Due to the high volume of inquiries we are getting, please expect a response sometime between 2 and 4 days.
so we may very well not get anything new for a few days.

I work for Verizon Wireless... I can say it's PROBABLY a coincidence. But it has my attention.

Well it's got to be something at least 'viral'. My SPDR-sense is tingling Razz private domain registration, obviously fake product... hmm...

surname Woodburrow

The name Woodburrow is almost none existant in USA. So they chose a name well. Nothing other than that fact.

still no email - me thinks they had no idea what they were getting into when they started this project.

Dangit.

I haven't used my account in forever. So, here we go again.

Today's the big day, by all accounts. May we wait with bated breath.

well that was super disappointing. they never responding to anyone's emails. They didn't update twitter/FB much. camp sucked. And it's concluded not with a bang, not even with a whimper, but with a fart.

main website updated to say
Quote:
Ok, so the jetpack idea isn't going to fly.

Unfortunately, the technology isn't quite there to offer jetpack rentals yet. But when it is, maybe Greenville will be the first to implement it. Until then, Greenville is moving forward with new transit ideas like the B-cycle bike sharing program.
with a "click to learn more" link to to a website about a new soon to open bicycle sharing program.

Admirable concept yes, certainly not a NEW one {they are everywhere these days} but I guess new to the area.

They had no idea what they were doing with this camp at all - I'd call it a failure, except they got a LOT of attention so it didn't fail, it just sucked. What a waste!!!

Yep, just got the email. A nice viral-ly way to promote your business but it really sux that they pulled our leg so hard. If I was in Greenville, I would most likely -not- rent a bicycle from that group because I feel so duped.

Dunce

See, I don't feel duped - way too obvious no such thing as a jetpack. I just feel they didn't put in the effort to do much with their campaign. Maybe it was as simple as they intended to have a local viral camp and it just blew up nationally.... but it just left me feeling like I wasted my time getting excited for this camp.

I beg to differ. Not on the duped part. Martin Jetpacks are expected to be released the middle of next year with a price of ~$75,000 USD. Currently, Martin Jetpacks is only accepting commercial inquiries. I was hoping that Greenville Jetpacks was going to be one of the commercial entities.
