IGN posted a video commentary, and they say a review is incoming. http://www.ign.com/videos/2013/03/28/slender-the-arrival-first-impressions

The guy who'll review it seems very positive, though certainly acknowledging some odd things about it. It proves to me The Eight Pages is more forgiving in this iteration and not harder. They have a large number of close encounters and wander aimlessly for about 15 minutes and still find all 8 pages.

Don't worry, it's easier this time. He's on you a lot more, but only goes in for the kill if you're trapped or you stare too long.

It's gonna need to be pretty damn easy, I just quit the first level.

In my defense, though, I quit because I have things to do & had no way of knowing my relative level of progress. I actually thought that the keys were the end goal & hiked all the way up back to the car.

The first level is scary, but there doesn't seem to be a way to practically fail. Just think, what do the keys go to? Is there a room you couldn't before access in the house?

So has anyone gotten clear screencaps of
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
what flashes at the end of the game?

I just finished the game, and I have to say, I'm pretty disgusted. Not even in a bad way! I just mean that, I literally feel sick from that ending. And that means that the game lived up to its fear potential for me. Amazing.

A quick note: It's perfectly clear that this game takes on a feeling of mystery in regards to learning or understanding the story whatsoever; Without the notes and letters, you would have little to no idea about what's going on with any of the characters, or ANYTHING. I actually really like that concept; rather than being lazy and making a full run-through of the game, you have to stop and look arond, and EXPLORE. Hell, in the moments of fear where I just bolted instead of searching the places I was in, I might have missed things that were not only plot-necessary, but just interesting!

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Also... The story is nicely open-ended. I like to think that Lauren could have escaped, despite how dark the situation looked by the end. Also, my first impression was that our crazy proxy in level three WAS Kate, but the ending tape and recording dismissed that idea. It's really clever, how all of the events were completely tied together... And sad to think that there was no hope by the end. The ending saddened me. Very much so.

I think that, the feeling I'm left with here is that, the scariest thing to experience while playing The Arrival is "false hope". I was so sure that, because of the reassurance that the notes in Kate's room gave, once I got to the area where that glowing tower was, it'd be safe for me. Then I saw the fire, and I shit you not, my blood ran cold.

Amazing game. I'm going to do a shitty walkthrough of this whole thing one day, just for fun and some explanation. I seriously can't get over the impact this had on me. Wow.

Tried it, the door still wouldn't open. Then I tried the car in the garage, which also didn't work. I thought there might have been some trick to it that I wasn't getting, but even if there was, the odds were low that I'd figure it out by randomly clicking things. So I took my next best guess.

Edit: I obviously haven't gotten far enough to make a good judgment, but on principle, I like hiding story details in the game world's background. That's what makes a videogame plot different from a book or a movie. Of course, there are some caveats to that, the big one being that you have to actually be able to explore.

Edit 2: Son of a bitch, that's right, there was a 2nd locked door.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Upstairs bedroom to the right. End of the hallway. That door is unlocked by the key.

Page 6. I can't help but feel like I get stuck on objects more than before. Which is saying something.

Also, if I hit the `/~ key, I bring up something that looks like it's a cheat code box. Is this supposed to be a thing?

Alright, here are my thoughts on the Hardcore extended ending.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
It seems that Charles, the Proxy, "saved" Lauren (as Slendy has been shown to give some of his own powers to some of his followers, such as in Tribe Twelve, which would explain how Charles could teleport you); Charles was likely following you since you left the mine. The whole time you're walking through the burning tunnel, you hear footsteps behind you. Slendy doesn't make footstep sounds. The only character in the game, besides you, who made footsteps sounds, was Charles.

What I believe is, he teleported you out of there, because the Slender Man isn't done with Lauren yet. Do you guys know what this means?...

A SEQUEL IS COMING...

EXCITEMENT!

Also, I'm missing one goddamned collectible. Don't even tell me that...there's something in that tunnel at the end of the game...I don't want to go through there again...NOT IN ONE NIGHT...

I don't think it's there, I went back and braved it and found only what was there before. Also;

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I'm pretty sure Kate is the proxy considering that the masky looks a bit more feminine with the hair and the way they move. As for the ending tape I assumed that it was CR screaming and the body looked like a masculine build.

As for the missing poster you can find on your way to the house in the first level;

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I'm fairly certain that is CR, the one whose sending the emails, because the kids first name is Charles something jR, and the poster seems fairly faded. But again, speculation on my part.

Also, ending scene spoilers:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Did anyone get a good look at what flashes on the screen as you approach the final room, and just before the end comes? To me it looked like Masky but I can't be sure, hence why I'm wondering how long until someone posts the screen-caps.

I have two here. Let me know if the image shows.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Upon second review... It looks a LOT like Marble Hornets' Masky. While it obviouslyisnt, that's kind of cool and creepy at the same time.

Developer's console, it's something in almost every pc game for dev cheats and commands. Just hit escape and don't sweat it.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I'm also in the camp that the Proxy is Kate. It looks a lot more like a young girl than an adult man compared with the tunnel body. The extended ending seems like a sequel hook, though that was probably inevitable anyway.

And holy shit at Slendy's tentacles in the last level. That was pretty nuts.

I would figure they'd take it out if it wasn't supposed to be possible for normal players to use.

I think a lot of devs leave it in PC games for fans who want to hack, mod, or otherwise manipulate the game to extend their time with it. I've heard with this game, on neogaf, some folks are using it to unlock all stages if they're stuck on The Eight Pages, for example.

Not able to purchase this game myself, so I'm living vicariously through comments on this thread and "let's play"s. I've only seen through level two so far, but I'm really enjoying it.

One comment for now: I'm actually pretty surprised and a little disappointed they gave Slender Man white hands. It makes him seem more human and less creepy. Seeing that the MH guys were in on this, I wish they'd made the monster look more like their version of it - long, black flipper-like appendages. That's my favorite version of him yet.
