I'm pretty sure Kate is the proxy considering that the masky looks a bit more feminine with the hair and the way they move. As for the ending tape I assumed that it was CR screaming and the body looked like a masculine build.

As for the missing poster you can find on your way to the house in the first level;

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I'm fairly certain that is CR, the one whose sending the emails, because the kids first name is Charles something jR, and the poster seems fairly faded. But again, speculation on my part.

Actually...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
It doesn't make sense that it would be Kate, as she was already well ahead of Lauren on her way to the tower when Lauren got to the mine. You can hear her on the final recording, sane-sounding (for the most part; in contrast with the Proxy's snarls and growls) watching CR burn himself. Given the differences in writing style between Charles Matheson and CR, I believe it's safe to say that they're two completely different people, and that Charles Matheson is the Proxy. Charles Matheson signed his letter "Charles M.", in contrast to the way CR signs all of his letters as "CR." It's also heavily suggested that Charles Matheson has been missing and isolated since he was a child. What's also worth mentioning is that, if you hold still in any part of the game where the Slender Man isn't coming for you, you can actually hear footsteps. Charles was on your tail nearly the whole time, just like Masky's sneaking antics during Marble Hornets' season 2 entries.

The footsteps at the end, I believe, also belonged to Charles. He "saved" you from the burning building, using some of the teleportation powers given to him by the Slender Man. He didn't do this out of mercy; the Slender Man isn't done with Lauren yet. Charles was sent by his master to recover Lauren and prevent her from perishing in the flames.

So yeah, SEQUEL POTENTIAL!

I'm pretty sure the "flipper effect" in Marble Hornets is mostly due to distortion.

I think a lot of devs leave it in PC games for fans who want to hack, mod, or otherwise manipulate the game to extend their time with it. I've heard with this game, on neogaf, some folks are using it to unlock all stages if they're stuck on The Eight Pages, for example.

Well, yeah, that's exactly what I'm planning on doing if I can't get past The Eight Pages on the third try or so. I mainly didn't want to find out that this wasn't supposed to be in here, & I'm going to somehow screw something up by trying to use it. Like getting myself stuck on god mode, or something.

Speaking of n00b questions, how do I view the achievements?

Is anyone still having problems finding secret message #4? Because I just found it, after 20 minutes of searching.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
If you pass the two small houses at the start of level three (the first house being where you would find secret message #5) and keep walking towards the end of the map, there's a really small cave that's obscured pretty well. The message is in there.

By the way, does collecting everything in the game do anything different, possibly? Besides the self-satisfaction of 100% game completion, I'd love to have some kind of reward/benefit for collecting everything in my scrapbook. xD

I gotta respectfully disagree. It's pretty clear, if you pause the video at different points throughout the series, that the "flippers" (or whatever we call them... "Tentacle-ish appendages"?) are part of the physical design of the Operator.

Whoo! Just beat this awesome game! And guess what?
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Slendy can totally kill you in the prologue! As I found out when I went back to hunt for some notes I missed!

Some stuff for people getting stymied by bugs!

For people who are getting the rage-inducing bug in the 4th stage
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
when you run into Kate's room to hide, listen up. To avoid the bug, run directly for her window. Do not try to shut the door. Just run towards her window and then then game will automatically kick in and do the rest.

There is also a similar bug in the 3rd stage
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
at the end of the level if you walk off the lift instead of running off the lift you can fall through the map. Make sure to run off the lift.

And for anyone who is looking for notes/collectibles and wants to know where they are:

Note 1
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Prologue: As you go in the front door of your house, it is to your left on a small ledge

Note 2
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Prologue: It is in the house in the room across from the garage with the radio in it.

Note 3
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Prologue: In the backyard, climb up on the playset. There is a note on the post by the slide.

Note 4
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
3rd Stage: This one is super annoying and took me forever to find. In the beginning of the 3rd stage before you go in the mine, find the small house (not the big one on stilts the one on the ground). Keep it to your right and head straight back and slightly to your left until you hit the rock face. If you look to your left, you should see a small hole in the rocks big enough to walk through. There is a pale tree trunk in there with a note on it.

Note 5
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
3rd stage: On the barrels in front of the house on stilts.

Note 6
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
3rd Stage: On the bulletin board on the building to your right before you enter the mine.

Note 7
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
3rd Stage: In the room right before the six generator search begins. It is to your left on the desk right before the door to the six generator area.

Note 8
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
4th stage: Right after leaving the lift behind, it is on the barrels directly in front of you down the hallway. Easy to miss.

Note 9
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
4th stage: After you leave mining shaft behind it is on the fencing to your left.

Note 10
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
4th stage: As you make your way down the path, there will be a point where you can go up instead of down. Go up and right before the path curves around to the left, there will be some wooden boards sticking out of the ground. The note is on these.

Note 11
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
4th stage: When you enter the building with the TV with Kate's flashback, it is on the wall to the left as you enter
.

Note 12
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
5th stage: As you are following the path up the mountain, there will be a point it take a sharp turn up and to your right. There are some wooden board sticking out of the ground around this turn. The note is on them.

Note 13
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
5th stage: As you enter the caves, there is a box directly in front of you. The note is on it.

Collectibles

Collectible 1
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Prologue : Before entering the house, on one of the trees in front of the driveway leading to the garage, there is a missing child poster. VERY easy to miss.

Collectible 2
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Prologue : After entering the house through the front door, go in the room to your left. There is a note from Kate on the coffee table in front of the TV.

Collectible 3
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Prologue : In the kitchen, there is a dry erase board on the refrigerator that you can grab.

Collectible 4
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Prologue : Also in the kitchen. On the table is a small leaflett from the funeral for someone named Beth Hayes.

Collectible 5
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
2nd stage: Found in the area you first spawn. You can grab the sign on the building that says Oakside Park has 3 canoes for rental.

Collectible 6
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
2nd stage: Found in the area you first spawn. Head up the steps to the building you spawned by. There should be some boxes up there with a pamphlet you can grab.

Collectible 7
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
2nd stage: Found in the area you first spawn. Head up the steps to the building you spawned by. On the wall somewhere should be a list of canoeing rules you can grab.

Collectible 8
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
3rd stage: On the same bulletin board as Note 6.

Collectible 9
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
3rd stage: Head into the area with the tankers to your left right before you enter the mine. Walk right next to the mine wall and head to the end of the tanker area. Turn around. There is a bit where the wall folds in slightly and there is a letter from a Charles M on it. Another easy to miss one.

Collectible 10
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
3rd stage: On the fencing directly in front of you when you enter the room right before the 6 generator area. It is a list of safety evacuation rules.

Collectible 11
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
3rd stage: In the same room as note 7 and Collectible 10 there is a newspaper clipping on the wall. Go ahead and nab it!

Collectible 12
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
4th stage: On the outside of the building with Kate's flashback video and just to the right of the entrance is a piece of paper on the wall with crazy scribblings all over it.

Collectible 13
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
In the same cave as Note 13. After turning right and following the path you should see another piece of paper on the wall in front of you before another right turn. Grab it and you'll have everything!

Achievements

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Prologue: Look at the swing set in the front yard. Walk right up to it.

Prologue: Go down the slide in the back yard.

Most of these are fairly easy to find, but you never know what people are gonna have trouble with!

Jump on in, GGOA. The water's fine.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Enjoy not sleeping.

I don't know how to do this, but I feel like a wiki should be compiled for the notes and collectibles, and what they contain. Could be a good way to assimilate all the story information for an informed discussion and analysis of it. Could do Giant Bomb's wiki page for it.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Can Slenderman stalk you outdoors in the prologue, or did you die by staring out of the window too long?

Slendy is in the prologue, but I don't think he can kill you since he's in the background

^ If you head straight outside after getting the flashlight, Slendy will be there. If you run into him or look at him too long, he'll get you.

Where do you think I always go after I get the flashlight?

I think you just had the unfortunate luck that he'd teleported out there to glare at you through the window at the same time you were leaving. Which isn't really much better.

Just wanted to let people know that anyone who previously purchased the game should have received an email with links to a patch that fixes some bugs with the game (notably the potentially game-freezing one at the end of level 4). New downloads will have the patch already installed.

This also fixes the patcher (it had a bug, otherwise we could have just patched all this out automatically), so that future content updates can be smoothly sent out.

It's totally possible to get him to spawn while you're walking down there. That happened to me too. It was really kinda freaky, haha.

Oddly enough, my second time through the level I didn't see him at all -- he didn't spawn when I looked through the window and he didn't spawn when I went out back. *Shrugs*

Now for a few comments of my own about the game:
The mine level. Holy smokes.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The freaking proxy thing. Oh man. I hated its behaviour at some points. I swear sometimes it would just spawn beside you and instantly maul you, then release you, then maul you again! Also, is it just me or is the number of hits the proxy takes to kill you completely random? Like, from 2-4 hits to kill or something. So weird. On the plus side, Slenderman randomly popping up was absolutely terrifying. Didn't expect that. He even got me once in that level.

I really enjoyed level 4, but it was so short. I'd love for this level to be expanded. Well, considering how many people made games based on the original Eight Pages, maybe we'll see some games inspired by this level.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Slenderman peeking at you through the window and then working his way into your house... scary!

I found the last level really challenging. Can someone explain to me the mechanics of the level?
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I know Slenderman can grab you and running into the fire kills you, but what about those weird tentacle things that follow you? If they grab you, I think you get stuck and then Slendy comes and kills you?

I was playing the Mac build, and I'm happy to say that I didn't come across any bugs at all, despite multiple playthroughs of the levels the bugs showed up in. Yay!

Okay, after going all the way through this game via different walkthrough videos, I have to say I'm pretty incredibly disappointed with the end. I basically agree with this guy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0IeLaOTXKm0&list=UUepq9z9ovYGxhNrvf6VMSjg&index=3 and his rant(s) regarding the game. It looked so good. It sounded so good. The story, admittedly, is better than the previous Slender game, but that's not saying much. In the end, it's just performing menial tasks while a slightly animated Slender Man chases you. Sigh.
