One can also easily cut different parts of a video and make it seem like day changes to night quickly

Yeah, seems like they'd have to do it that way in order to get that effect.

I still disagree with the notion that there was time travel in entry 23. It appears darker downstairs because the front door, where light was coming in, is now shut.

No, you're still ignoring the upstairs windows which get progressively darker until no light comes through them in a matter of minutes of Jay going from room to room. Plus, your front door explanation doesn't even make sense, because the back door, which is broad glass screen, is what lets in the majority of the natural light on the bottom floor, not the front door.

It would make things too unrealistic

Actually, the time travel we've seen so far, where a moment passes for Jay while significantly more time passes for everything else, is theoretically possible, so it isn't unrealistic relative to what else we've seen in the show. Quite the opposite, considering.

Quote:
I'll agree that a time distortion, i.e., time not progressing for the characters in tandem with the rest of the world, was possible when Jay was trapped going through doors that didn't lead where they were supposed to. However, we've had absolutely no evidence that time travel was ever part of this series.

This is just semantics. Whether Jay was actively warping into the future or just percieving time at a faster pace due to whatever was happening to him at the moment, we don't know. What we do know is that day changed to night very quickly.

If Alex did know about the MH channel that early, I can't help but wonder why he waited 7 months to try and kill Jay.

Probably because that wasn't his intent at first, or he genuinelly did want Jay to help him find Amy before he skee-bopped him.

Quote:
And entry 26 showed a young man and his girlfriend getting attacked by a mysterious stranger, I think that would mean something to anyone who watched it regardless of what they knew about the situation.

It wouldn't mean "Follow the return adress instead of going to the police" to anyone except Jay. Plus, he also knew that Jay was hotel-hopping, meaning he had been following Jay's exploits up until that point.

The fact that Alex was chill in that entry before Amy brought the camera out tells me he forgot all about TO. I think it is likely that Alex ran, then found MH, then contacted Jay looking for help (and to tell him to stop posting to YouTube) then he slowly went crazy.

Waitaminite... the hell!?

Reading this I suddenly realized an alternative interpretation of the event in Entry 26. Alex didn't forget about the Operator. That camera wasn't hidden. Someone put it there for Alex to find.

The other day I was thinking, "why did Alex suddenly have problems again shortly after Jay started investigating?" The answer is someone sent Alex a message, a lone video camera and a tape with distorted footage. The girlfriend Amy mentioned there was a tape in there, the footage at the beginning of the tape was probably what she watched.

Granted this is a pretty far stretch and seems ridiculously unlikely. And it completely goes against the general consensus of the camera just having been hidden by Alex. I just wanted to share part of the weird idea that suddenly popped in my head...

Actually, the claim that Alex thought that Jay was the quickest way to get rid of the tapes makes so much sense. Picture this: You are Alex. You are trying to burn tapes. But you have so damn many of them that it will take several attempts to get them all. So maybe you just take a bunch of the useless ones & dump them on someone who will probably forget about them.

You say that Alex knew that they would start something? I say otherwise. Jay DID say he forgot about them for several months. And even after he started reviewing them, things didn't start happening to him until ToTheArk got involved, who presumably only did so because Jay herped & derped & posted them on the internet, and there wasn't a known run-in with The Operator since the Marble Hornets days until Jay waltzed right into his forest.

And if you hold that this was supposed to have ARG elements, then that also proves that the tapes don't cause anything themselves, because we watch what happens & are largely unaffected.

He was implying that we are all affected and you are lucky to be unaffected and you should run away while you still can. (Why else would we obsessively refresh this forum?)

Oh, Rev, it's not just you. Holy Mother of Pie, it's not just you.

Many of the fandom have been taken over by Sudden Onset OCD. Once-productive members of society have become addicted drones, unable to tear themselves away from their screens, breathlessly waiting for the next unF forum post. Drool

Someone hire this man, he's taking us to the next step in ARG innovation.
Upon watching MarbleHornets, Troy will receive a tweet. He will then dispatch one of his many cronies out to YOUR house, and they will study YOUR EXACT BEHAVIOR PATTERNS. After that, they'll begin to systematically stalk you, dressed as Slenderman. They will also have their choice of a friend who can play as Masky, who will chase you away when you get too close, or at other random intervals.

It's simply brilliant.

On a more serious note, I'm ecstatic about this entry. I, along with many others, once theorized that Alex carefully picked which tapes he gave Jay. Once I saw the first burned tape, I couldn't help but smile a bunch. Sure, it's yet another MORE MACGUFFIN TAPES deal, but it seems to add a lot more to the plot this time.

Here's hoping we get an explosive finale to MarbleHornets, after that footage is salvaged... No, like seriously. I want Michael Bay directing the finale. It would be fantastic.

It did help me realize something about entry 54 though. The lights didn't go out because of the circuit breaker or the Operator, someone just closed Tim's front door.

Best post on the forum hahaha.

He forgot about them for three years, actually (not that it makes any difference).

As far as I can tell, The Operator's first present-day appearance was in Return, meaning that TTA might have actually directly brought The Operator back into the events somehow. Which doesn't seem to gel with the later representations of TTA where he/she/they seem to be afraid of TO, but that's how it happened at the time...

Other than that, all its attacks on Jay seem pretty provoked -- after repeatedly entering one of his victim's houses, after snooping through his forest/tunnel, after breaking into Alex's house, after saving (probably) one of his victims from Alex. I don't know why TO is so chill about the hospital, though. The only times he's been known to be present there is when Alex was around (except for Entry #60, but the footsteps might have been Alex). Considering that TO ignored Jay for more than a year after Entry #52, I doubt it really cares about him at all. It's just Tim and Alex who get roped into everything against their will. TO even lets Jay leave in Entry #64, something he decidedly does not do for Tim.

I guess the fact that Jay appears to be getting people involved with TO after they'd been freed of its influence just indicates that Jay is an inadvertent passive ally of TO -- as opposed to Alex's apparent active participation -- which would maybe explain why TO never seems to hurt either of them. Must suck to be Tim.

I would quite like this reuse of the tape-finding trope if it weren't the third time it's happened this season. Once per season was kind of neat but now it's starting to get excessive. Within the 60s, we've had two repeats of an old plot device and two .5 entries -- it feels a bit awkward to me. Jay's little self-aware joke in Entry #53 ("great, more tapes...") really saved that part of the season -- but typically a joke like that indicates that the creators are aware that something is getting predictable and are asking to be forgiven for doing it one last time. To follow that up with two more repeats of the same thing is pretty bewildering and amateurish.

That being said, I think since it's late in the season we're probably going to get a really good entry out of these burnt tapes (or possibly a few good entries, depending on how much is salvageable).

I'm not sure how much of this is point & how much is hyperbole, but EverymanHYBRID, for instance, has established the illusion that you might be a target as well. At one point, they even had one of the fans make a video claiming that he'd been attacked by someone.

You know, I don't think Jay ever got the rest of the tape that entry 67 was on working. He could only get the beginning and end of the tape to work, we could potentially still get a decent entry from that tape if Jay gets the middle part to work. Although I'm not sure if Jay is still working on that tape at all, or if we're meant to assume he got everything he could from it.

As much as I love the idea that simply watching these videos gets you involved with TO its completely unrealistic. Hang on, there's someone at the door tryi
