We could bitch about the fact that Jay hasn't tweeted about the tapes they found even though it's been at least a week. He hasn't even done a typical "tapes are not working, going to keep trying" kind of tweet.

Or we could talk about who our favorite character is. My favorite character is Jay. I relate to him because I am also a socially inept person outside of the internet. I also think he's gone A&B the C of D for putting up with all the stuff he has over the past few years. Most people would've just been like "Screw those missing people I'm done with this."

I've always identified with Tim more than any other character due to our shared hobby of wearing a mask and assaulting casual acquaintances in the dead of night. Mine's a Batman mask though.

My favorite character is probably Alex. Comes from my perception that he's actually a good guy, but has been so warped through paranoia & whatever The Operator does to him that he has episodes of psychotic murder streaks. In my opinion, this makes him one of the most sympathetic characters.

Most people have this hobby.

Above & Beyond the Call of Duty Smile

If Alex wasn't faking his little speech in entry 22 and truly can't recall the horrible things he does then that really would cast him in a much more sympathetic light.

Why does this not surprise me at all? Wink

My favorite is Tim, for Geneaux's (and apparently everybody else's) reasons.

Oh, and my habit of scarfing up large amounts of medication from unmarked pill bottles.

I agree with your assesment here, and I hope it winds up being the case. I've always sort of associated the Operator's effects with Reaper Indoctronation from the Mass Effect franchise, in that extended exposure to the malovelent being in question causes superficial mental changes (if that makes sense) at first, you act strangely, lash out, whatever, then you forget about it and go back to normal (like Tim), but as time goes on, eventually your most basic thought processes are rewritten, changing your entire state of mind, so that your very being is altered, which is what I think may have happened to Alex.

Lithp, it was you who dealt the death-blow to my pet theory about Alex and TO, which held as its basic premise that Alex was evil, evil, evil. Your statements in that thread would suggest that you found Alex not-evil. It's just a short leap from there to finding that he's your favorite.

It was meant in jest, no offense intended -- that's why the emoticon was there. Or does the rage of Grammar Nazis extend to das Schmileys also?

Oh. I forgot about that thread. As a matter of fact, I forget what I ate for dinner last night. Actually, I don't think of my preferences to the Marble Hornets characters that much. I just tried thinking of which ones I like, & Alex came to mind foremost.

If he is, in fact, evil, I might still like him most. All depends on how they do it. If they make him twirl his mustache & devil beard, probably not. Then again, that could explain why they're having him grow his facial hair out.

Sometimes.

A well-done villain is a thing of beauty.

I do not care for the facial hair. It strains credibility to imply that someone as unhinged as Alex is will be concerned with his appearance, let alone have the presence of mind to attend to fine details in his grooming. A full-on unkempt beard, yes -- or better yet, a bad job shaving -- this would make sense.

The thing to remember about evil people is that there is a path of logic you can follow that makes them seem.. well intentioned. Hitler, for example was trying to improve the human race going into the future (in his own mind). Probably one of the worst people in history, yet most of his actions are summed up in that sentence, which is well intentioned. I hate stories that have evil characters whose motive is to break and destroy, as that's not often the case in the real world.

That has always bugged me. I just imagine the shaving scene from Troyhasacamera but with Alex. Also TO in the mirror, watching, and approving.

Sometimes the unhinged will cling to a semblance of sanity. To keep up appearances on the outside to hide what is going on inside. Granted, if that were the case he'd still be clean shaven.

I imagine Joseph just doesn't want to have a terrible beard for months to shoot these videos, & they are bad at makeup. Nevertheless, I don't see it as such a big deal. Alex probably has to keep up some pretense of normality, or how would he buy food, find places to live, & keep his waste from piling up?

I can sum it up better: Hitler was a loser who parroted the "Jews are evil" rhetoric to excuse his own failures, & gain power.

You might find a better example, but it's really arguable how many "evil people" have excuses for what they do or if they even believe those excuses, let alone whether or not they are any semblance of valid.

Plus, there are plenty of examples of killers who are just selfish, deranged, spiteful, or a combination of the 3.
