So that maybe it's death was not in vain... Ok, bear with me folks, this won't make a lot of sense at first. I'm going to say a word. A word that will mean absolutely nothing to most of you, but will be recognised by the select few who I want it to. Why the secrecy? Because I don't know if they will agree with my idea, and if they don't, then this cryptic little textual splurge can be swiftly forgotten. But anyhoo, to those in the know, I say:
Appleseed
Now that I've gotten the necessary attention, I put forward this idea: We go public. We tell people what could have been, how it started, how (and more importantly, WHY) it failed. Maybe future PM's can learn from our folly. Maybe the things we went through can help better prepare others in the future who try what we tried. True, our efforts ultimately came to naught, but that doesn't make them worthless. We can share the story of our brief, shining time as something more than ordinary IF'ers, and let others benefit from the lessons we had to learn the hard way.
So, my shadowy companions, what say you? Perhaps in our confession we can find redemption. Maybe this will make it all worthwhile.
What say you?
Johnny would have wanted it this way.............................

It wasn't NoahBoddy. Now you've got me curious about what the word I said had to do with that!
Anyhoo, looks like the general consensus is to not bring up the past, sorry. Suffice to say, a bunch of us tried something and it didn't work. Happens all the time, right?
We now return you to your regularly scheduled program.

Why don't you post your list of lessons and keep them general so that no one gets their feelings hurt.

yeah! I do wish we could start learning from these mistakes - ARGs are under such lock and key there's never any sign of trouble until a server goes down or something. Is there any place at all where one can look around this iron curtain?

Have to agree - I've been playing with various ideas recently, which I'd like to get off the ground, but some clue of non-obvious pitfalls to avoid would be nice

I third Mysteryjones and Flynn.
I'd like to eventually be in a position to run an ARG so that the usual suspects can take a break and play for a change. Having only had the experience of one very successful ARG, and a second one that is currently running but has experienced some Behind the curtain problems, I'd like to know what other potential traps are in store for BTS personnel, and game designers. I also agree that comments should be generalized and not aimed at particular people, but rather a catalog of potential problems to keep tabs on so they do not disrupt the game.

Do share. I was involved for about 5 minutes early in the dev stage but was shut out shortly after the start for whatever reason. Not a big thing, I had, um, "other things" to work on.

I'd be interested in a remedial PM training session. Count me in.

I'd also like to learn more about the logistics involved in setting up an ARG - for purely academic reasons, of course.
