Wrong topic to be discussing theories and speculation

I thought 82 was a nice change of pace because it finally progressed our knowledge of a big mystery in a way

Answered a few questions, really. What's on the other side of the tunnel? Where did the shack go? What was up with Jay?

Also, it established the dangers of The Operator. Up until recently, he'd just show up and teleport things and be creepy. Not too long ago, he gave Jay a seizure which put him out for awhile. Now it seems he can make people hostile and crazy if he gets them.

And since we know now that The Operator can make people hostile, it confirms what happened to change Alex in 2006 and implies a reason why he was picking off the cast members - TO changed his mental state to make him think it was necessary, like with what happened to Jay.

I'll be disappointed if all there is to the tunnel is that things get shifted around when one goes through it and The Operator becomes more persistent. #50 and #64 gave the impression that there was some big secret beyond it. It would be really cool if The Operator shifted things around in an attempt to hide whatever this secret is.

I think the other side of the tunnel is the more Operator-influenced part of the forest. If you go through it, he can shift the forest more and will find you. Perhaps the Ark, whatever it is, is also over there somewhere.

But what happened when he went through in #50!?!?!

I'm kind of worried it's not going to be a plot point after all. Sad

82, on a first watch, may seem like it didn't really progress anything. But this video has answered the most questions in a while.

I don't know if it's to do with the quality of the entries, as they seem to be getting steadier in terms of production quality (though the last few times we've seen TO I've not been that impressed by him, and I can't quite put my finger on why) but I do find it harder and harder to re-watch some of the more recent entries. Up to around 70 it was fine, but the more recent ones have been more "Oh, that was cool" and then moved on. Has anyone else found this? It's not even like my interest in the season is waning (just for the record, I thought 82 was really interesting), I just find them a little stale the second time.

Can't say that's true for me as well, I always find a lot of rewatch value, as long as it's not as bland as 74 or something. Although since 72, the quality's been dipping up and down a lot. 72 itself was the best entry, 73 and 74 were crap, 75 was excellent, 76 was disappointing, 77 was pretty good, 78 was bland, 79 was almost pointless, 80 was also excellent, 81 was almost pointless and 82 was the second greatest. Very peculiar.

...76 was disappointing? I'm a little surprised, but okay then.

I was hoping for a better payoff to "she disappeared somewhere, she must be saved" than "this is where she disappeared to, then she disappeared again, she must be saved." Can't say it was impressive. But hopefully they subvert the damsel in distress thing in the last few entries.

Still not really impressed with The Operator.

"He makes people violent & crazy!"

Okay, and? He's a giant teleporting monster man, surely he can just kill a guy himself, if that's what he wants. And he's not even approaching this in a predatory kind of way. Anymore, he virtually never appears anywhere except for Rosswood. He doesn't find you, you find him.

The Operator's more about slowly watching people turn crazy rather than flat-out murdering them. He probably could do it quick if he wanted but that's not his aim.

But I do agree I don't like how he very rarely comes after anyone. Alex seems to be the only one to have been actively stalked by The Operator. Majority of the time for everyone else, they just go to an obviously dangerous place and he predictably appears. It would be much scarier if he started stalking Jay and Tim and I keep wondering if that'll end up happening and it just doesn't.

It would be a LOT more threatening if he was active about it, but I still can't ignore the apparent pointlessness of it. What is gained by making the cast of Marble Hornets go crazy & kill each other? Did he just hate the movie THAT much?

To be honest I'm not sure TO can actually kill anyone by his own means. Assuming that his main symptoms are amnesia and paranoia, and that he actually can't interact physically with other people in order to kill them - it's not so strange he's trying to drive them mad and kill each other. Someone has to do the work for him and he might as well have a little fun whilst waiting.

Not necessarily the (arguably) lacking threat of The Operator that has left me disappointed with him, as I think his danger is quite understated - I would say it was exposure to The Operator that led to Jay's paranoia, sickness, obsession and ultimately, death, though I do think they could have played up the actual slender sickness as being more dangerous, perhaps being potentially fatal, and I do think that maybe the approach they're taking is slightly too subtle for a series as long running as this. After all, the scariness of a glorified cough that might cause you to act stupidly and only has the potential to make you put yourself in danger after several years kind of wears off after a while.

But, back to the point, it's the actual production of him that seems off to me. Can't quite place it, but his appearance hasn't had the same impact for me that it once did. Not talking about the difference between being played by an actor or being a mannequin either, there's just something about it that doesn't seem as well done as it once did.
