[Trailhead] Whitechapel + The Game = ???
Confusion based on this week's sponsor

So, after clicking on this week's sponsor (which links to bit.ly/the-dawn), I'm curious if we're looking at a game launch, puzzle trail, or just an homage to ARGs.

Image [labeled "Anonymous"] is from the Wikipedia page on Whitechapel High Street, and the bit.ly links to a pastebin file of the full script for the movie The Game. Wasn't able to see the next step, but I also didn't read through the entire script, because doing so would be a fairly tall order.

Am I missing something?

Interesting.

Part way down, in the script, is the following link: http://bit.ly/MaryCortimiglia

Takes you to a page about finding graves, for a little girl named Mary who was killed by a serial killer called the axeman, who didn't kill her parents. A woman named Linda created the page and left a comment on her article in November 2012. She's added over a thousand memorials though.

I'll keep reading and let you know if I find anything else.

Nice catch on both accounts. I had looked at this earlier and wasn't sure what to make of it. Doing a diff of this and the original script, the only differences I see are at the start in the titles with the '-33-' and the bitly link (which replaces the original scene 33 title).

ETA - with Whitechapel you get the obvious nod to Jack the Ripper. With the 1919 death, possibly suggesting a connection? Apparently there may already be hints or speculation a connection:

I've not seen the film, but reading the summaries on imdb and Wikipedia throuw up a few differences; the characters of the lead and his brother have different names in this script to the finished film.

Also wonder if there's any significance to the bit.ly link - the one from the script names the dead girl. So why is the link from the picture called 'the dawn' rather than the more logical 'the game'?

Check this early draft:
http://www.dailyscript.com/scripts/the-game-early.html

Also, title of the pasebin is CRS. Not sure what that may be referring to.

It refers to the company in the film that's behind it all: Consumer Recreation Services.

D'oh, nice catch Wink Been awhile since I've watched the movie and I should have seen the references in the script.

Hmmm, not much to go on.

David Fincher directed both "The Game" and "Zodiac".

Weak connection here?

Well, the axe man and Jack are both murderers which were never caught, which connects the little girl Mary to Whitechapel.

Doesn't really connect either of them to The Game though. I wonder if its significant that it was an early draft of the film script used, rather than the finished version?

Maybe there are other bit.ly urls to find?

There's also a website: http://www.consumerrecreationservices.com/
They are currently recruiting for "players."
In their source you can find a secret message too: "if you're bored, you're doing it wrong. patience."

Quoting that into Google brought me to a 4-year-old uF trailhead

Could it be a reboot or have some other connection..?
Their phone number is now for a Hawaiian Tour company and their website doesn't seem to have changed since 2009 though...

I ran across that site too. It looks like they started a facebook page last year to try recruiting players again, but there hasn't been any more recent activity.

Seems intriguing BUT reading the old trailhead thread made me weary of contacting them. TLDR: They used the personal information of a Fourth Wall Studio employee in an email correspondance with a player. Moderator did some homework and found that Fourth Wall was not at all involved. Conclusion: Bad form/shady.

Also, even though there's the connection to the screenplay, it's lacking any obvious reference to the serial killers, so I'm guessing/hoping it's not connected to this one.

Le sigh. What do we do next? Road trip to NOLA?

I did some trial and error of bit.ly urls, and most came up with nothing that seems connected (trying Whitechapel, the-game, axeman, etc.)

Did get an amusing hit for bit.ly/ jack-the-ripper which I'll let you see for yourselves, but nothing related.

Thanks for the laff Sarah B. I haven't had one of those in quite a while.

http://bit.ly/AnnieChapman

Does get a hit but doesn't seem related.

EDIT:
Some of the other Axeman victims:
http://ww2.valdosta.edu/~stwhite/paper%203.htm

will bit.ly to math or symbol related sites???

http://bit.ly/JosephMaggio
http://bit.ly/CatherineMaggio
http://bit.ly/LouisBesumer
http://bit.ly/CharlesCortimiglia
http://bit.ly/RosieCortimiglia

I will try to do them all in order later to see if it goes anywhere.

RE EDIT:
IN hasty fashion (probably errors) I can get ABCCDEDE (sufferer ??)
and then this:
http://bit.ly/MikePepitone

ONCE AGAIN (SORRY Sad ) bad string below. Trying to work on this in-between OTHER THINGS. Most of you may know the feeling....
[ spoiler]OR maybe this ABCCDEDEA for this? http://bit.ly/sufferers[/spoiler]

New post. The one above is way too messy.
Following Sarah B's method with bit.ly and entering the Axeman's victims in order, and converting each site to a logical number gives up:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
03--1919
and lastly "timeline"
Mary Cortimiglia was killed 03 09 1919 and buried 03 10 1919

Now what?
Is there another way to read hyphen-?

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I think the Anna Lowe link is broken Sad but I got it anyway. Prolly not worth the effort tho...

Awesome work as usual booba.

Looking at Wikipedia, it's Harriet not Anna Lowe:
http://bit.ly/HarrietLowe

ETA - Actually they have both Harriet and Anna listed for her, but Harriet worked.
