Which doesn't make a lick of sense, since we know the Operator messes with the mind, and Alex was pretty clearly a normal guy before he started having those problems.

I mean in regards to both the earliest entries and the latest entries. Sorry that I was vague.

I meant that it doesn't make sense that the camp is getting smaller, since we've got plenty of evidence to suggest that Alex is as much a victim as anyone else who's had their mind messed with by TO.

I know, but it seems like it is. Like you, I don't know why.

For what it's worth I've always been in that camp. One of the main reasons is that it makes the whole thing that extra bit scarier.

In Regards to the timeline, it's obvious that this happens a few days after Entry #55. But there might be an entry between them. Some people have suggested Entry #4. This makes sense. Because Alex, Tim and Brian planned to go see the hospital the coming weekend but didn't. When they finally get around to going, weeks later, Alex says that, "something came up."
The thing that stopped their location scouting was Alex investigating the Operator's shenanigans.
So I think that, in sense of the timeline, it's:
Entry #55 (then possibly Entry #2) then Entry #4 and then Entry#70.

Another thought: could Alex have also burned a lot of the tapes concerning Sarah?

Nah, Serum did that.

Ya'll have the weirdest boner for Sarah.

And no, I didn't burn the "Sarah Tapes" because there aren't any. Sarah's character is so insignificant that she doesn't appear in anything else.

Also, people are asking if the 'trailer' on the S2 DVD is "canon," I say 'no,' because a trailer usually implies a finished film.

For those who are wondering,

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Alex says "What do you want?" when he runs toward Slendy.

Also, that distortion might need some decoding. Can somebody do a frame by frame?

Uploading a frame dump now, will edit with link.

Honestly I could see Alex filming the trailer before he actually films the movie. That wouldn't be his biggest mistake regarding the original Marble Hornets.

So, like, the clear motivational line is now open, right? Alex goes through the fall into madness/evil/whatever to protect Amy after he provokes outright battle between himself and TO.

Obviously room to subvert or ham that up, and room for it to be something else, but it's what Shakespeare would've done in his post-Hamlet plays.

Welp, that at least gives Alex a good motive to move to Rosswood, Home of Sacrificed Friends. His chirpy blonde girlfriend was there. However, the connection does weird me out a bit. Coincidence may be a thing in real life, but I don't believe in coincidence in fiction.

That distortion was odd. It sounded almost like some sort of...I dunno...thrash metal song. Maybe the camera picked up the Operator's iPod.

Speaking of which, for a moment I thought the Operator teleported away in time for Alex to run into a tree. Haha! That prankster and his wacky eldritch hijinks.

...perhaps this is Alex's official "start of darkness", where TO starts getting control over his mind...

You know, it sounds to me more malicious and as though he's saying "You won't talk!" or "He won't talk!" because I can't find any trace of 'what'. It could have been interferenced out I guess, but it still doesn't line up as 'do you want' to me. Also, it kinda sounds... like it isn't Alex's voice. It may have been the interference again, but that's where I'm getting the malice.

Several people have been mentioning that
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Oppy's way too short in this entry. I agree, his size doesn't match up with his towering profile seen in past entries, such as the hotel and the numerous appearances in Rosswood. However, it does match up with the earliest entries. I remember in the first few, particularly those rare entries where we see him physically move, he was more or less human sized. I think he gets taller throughout the timeline for a reason. Maybe his size is proportional to his power, or however much influence he has over any particular victim... Or however many victims there ends up being.

Also, I've been waiting for this for way too long. Since I started watching these things, I've been wondering why no one has thought to just try and
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
tackle the damn Operator. I mean, it's worth a try, right? How often does instant and overwhelming aggression not work? Throw your best sucker-punch at anything and you'll at least get running time, right? But no... He's apparently a bait'n'switcher, which is even scarier. It show's he's wise to the human fear response.

I'm not sure how much I hold with the mind control theory. It seems sort of tacky. I doubt the trances last very long, or that The Operator has them do anything major in them. So what are they for? Who knows. Maybe it wants them to find something for it. Maybe it's just psychological warfare.

Also, I think that coincidences are very important in fiction. They provide the raw material for the plot to work with. Good characterization is a lot less about controlling everything from the outset, & a lot more about making due with what you've got.

What? You need to get your speakers checked or something. I heard Alex shouting "What do you want?" clear as day.

That'd already been tried, long ago. It did not end well.

Know what, just listened again and heard it.

Full disclosure: I just woke up so I was probably a little groggy, which is why I attributed that last blast of static as a word too.

I doubt that it's outright control, I think it's more along the lines of gradual, mounting, permanent damage to the psyche of whoever's being pursued.
