I felt it necessary to convince people for 2 reasons. First, though it might seem minor, there is in fact a very big difference between a fact & a universally agreed upon interpretation. For everyone to be on the same page, I needed to establish that MH Slenderman=The Operator is a fact. Second, & more importantly, there was at least 1 person in the topic who legitimately believed that "The Operator" was a fan nickname.

Grumple, so there was no quote where Troy is like, "Oh, right, he's 'The Operator' in our series"? Because that is what I was actually looking for. Did you see all of the parts?

As Lithp was saying, there was more than just you to convince, paladin, though you know I would go to the ends of the earth to prove a point.

Lithp, I listened to all of the 2011 GMX that I could find, which was two parts, and no, the part where Troy bitches about the Slenderman warning (and Joseph makes the paper airplane) was the closest he got to direct affirmation that they have renamed the figure as "Operator."

2012 GMX was five parts, and I think I got as far as the beginning of four before I could not stand to listen any longer to the giggling of the person holding the camera. Bang Head It may have been in the rest of 4 or 5, but I haven't heard anything that's up to Ztakk's standard of proof.

I had also been listening to the MH radio interviews that onetruepurple references, but I don't recall hearing anything definitive. It is at this point that I should also note that I am ridiculously sleep-deprived, and my attention to fine detail may be significantly compromised.

Question 20: "(...) any of the side stories and blogs about the Operator" kind of suggests that the original question just said "about the Slenderman". That's me being picky though...

I'm not too sure what you're referring to? And if that is the case, fair enough, but the rest of the EMH crew do talk about the tall, faceless elephant in the room a lot - if we're going on the basis that in MH they don't mention it out of fear, or the fear of summoning TO or whatever, then that would explain why NONE of them mention TO, not just one or two characters.

...I hope that makes sense, I've been at work all day and I can't brain anymore.

[undeletia mine]

It's entirely possible that I missed something proof-worthy. Not all the pistons are firing at the moment: I've had four, maybe as many as five hours' worth of sleep in the last 48, a possible giant total of nine hours in the last 72. Tired Girl is TIRED. And busy, in the midst of [a bunch of boring work stuff]. And cranky, for both those reasons.

But thanks 'purple, for catching that. If you find more, please post them.

Aside from Troy directly calling it The Operator and the fact that no fans ever called it that prior to Troy and Joseph's Q&A (where they replaced all instances of "slender man" with "the operator"), there's also the fact that Jay has, in-universe, replied to a tweet about The Operator, and never replies to tweets about Slendy, Masky, or Hoody.

(The tweet in question is now marked private, but it is listed on the wiki.)

Has somebody ever tried of asking Jay in/(on?) twitter about that? Something like: "I've been wondering... why you don't talk about that thing that follows Alex and you two?"... I don't know. There are high possibilities of him not answerig the question, but maybe he does and we have a solved mystery Razz

It's a good question but Jay has mentioned "That thing" and "something is following Alex" in previous entries. I think his denial of talking about the operator (RANT: When I read TO all I think of is Terrel Owens..ugh) is he doesn't have any answers, so he's reluctant to speak about it.

Tim does talk about the operator so I think they make clear Jay does acknowledge him (or her?) The Operatoress?

For the record, the possibility of non-Puppet Master tweets going private was one impetus (aside from completist documentation) for recording all the relevant tweets on the timeline as they are made.

I think that it is:

A) Fear of the Operator

B) Since Jay already knows about the Slender Man due to the SomethingAWFUL forums, he safely assumes that Googling "tall man with no face" will bring up the Slender Man.

(Note that the second point relies on the SA post being canon.)

FWIW, I think Troy regards it as canon. Q&A here (warning: incessant giggling makes the answers difficult to hear at points). Question about the inspiration for Marble Hornets starts at 8:29; Troy refers to his first SA post for it as "in character" at 10:48.

Also, shamelessly reiterating my own earlier related point.

Back to the original topic of why they don't mention TO much, or by name directly (instead of trying to prove whether or not the name The Operator is canon and whatnot. I was wrong, big whoopdy whippidy dong do). I can see it being the characters IG don't have a name for it really and OOG that's just what they want us to refer to it as. I mean, if in some entry jay goes "Oh, and The Operator is back" it makes it sound like he's not as scared of it, and is almost on familiar terms.

Ztakk, I was not trying to give offense. I get overenthusiastic at times when I'm arguing, but I truly didn't intend to annoy you. My apologies.
