Do we sometimes look too hard for an answer?

I've posted here because I didn't want to destroy the sense of emersion but to quote konamouse from here we have

konamouse wrote:

Guess he saw action in the first Gulf War.
15 years in and leaves in 2001? How was he discharged? If less than 20 years it is not retirement. If separated (his current enlistment was up and he didn't re-enlist) after 15 years, that is unheard of (only 5 more years for retirement benefits). If separated in 2001, and special forces, he should have been recalled (they can do that, because there are provisions for being part of the ready-reserve when you are so recently separated) and we have been under terrorist alert since 9/11/2001, not to mention the current Gulf War.
Therefor:
1) he was dishonorably discharged?
2) he separated because he became disenchanted with current US military policies?
3) he's mentally unstable and given medical discharge?

Now Nash appears to have some exposure to the military so perhaps Konamouse is correct in his analysis, but wouldn't a simpler solution be that the PM didn't do a 100% check when he was writing a character back history?

Personally, it's my belief that if a PM makes a mistake in their game, they should incorporate the mistake intot he game.

PM's need to do rewrites of things all the time. Players are VERY good at throwing off adventures.

So I would think that if Nash didn't research it all the way through and didn't catch this, that he should now incorporate these facts into the reality of the game and put a spin on it.

Just My opinion. Smile

Oh I agree! If an ARG isn't in some way dynamic the players will soon feel like they are being shoehorned down a particular path. I think the secret is to produce the illusion of choice and produce it well so that the players hold on to the silly notion that they have freewill Twisted Evil

From a players point of view I guess we know that there will be information hidden so we feel obliged to dissect everything. Of course by doing so we create a whole load of irrelevant junk which makes it harder to find what we are after. A bit of a Catch 22 really.
