Slenderman has tentacles, the Operator does not. And Splendorman is the one with the cool hat.

I'm thinking that Slender: The Eight Pages has had some influence on how the MH crew has decided to portray the Operator recently. This is especially obvious in entry 70; the static blip when he teleports borrows very much from S:TEP.

The most recent appearance of the Operator also resembles the S:TEP model a lot--which, incidentally, looks pretty awful, sort of like Gumby.

S:TEP Slenderman model was modeled after MH Slenderman not the other way around.

Yeah, the new MH scarecrow-with-long-arms model predates Slender by quite a bit.

As for the movement of The Operator, while it was well done a few times (and other times not so well done) to me it doesn't fit the character. He's supposed to be this [seemingly] all powerful being, so why would he reduce himself to walking

Yes, I am very disappointed in Slenderman's inactivity, & I am also disappointed at how well it is being received.

From a viewers perspective, there is a difference between "what should be realistically happening" and "what we want to see." While those are subjective terms, take into consideration that if they really nailed it and got him to walk and made it look amazing, that there would be a vast majority of the fans (i'd go so far as to say 95%+) desiring to see it again.

Sure, the operator might not need to walk since he can teleport. Sure, it may make him seem less human. However, that doesn't mean that removing the desire to walk, as "realistic" as it may be to his ability set, will sit well with most fans.

The reason the operator is as creepy as he is is because he shares human qualities, along with alien qualities. The more human he is shown to be, the more creepy he is. This is mainly because knowing that this being shares some of our qualities allows us to sort of identify with him, but as soon as we see any of his alien attributes come out, we immediately shut out that identification and do a 180. It's a form of deception that people enjoy, because it gets them to realize that there is much more to the operator than he lets on. If he looked and acted like a typical alien does in most movies, the series would suck.

The alternative is shit.

IMO the Operator's movement in 1, 6, 26, and 64 has all been very effectively creepy. I don't think it's the type of movement that matters as much as the framing and atmosphere. Sometimes stillness works very well (12, 40, 46) and other times it just looks like a puppet (43, 56, 70). Other times movement looks awful too (4).

I do agree that the walking around looked goofy (I mainly posted entry 14 because it had a great amount of movement) and we do have to understand what the crew has to work with.

But all the same, the fact that he remains still literally every time we see him gets old. Even just tilting his neck or something to show that he is alive would be enough for me.

The Operator walking worked really well in the early entries (mainly #1, #6, and #14), but that's because he had windows and doorways to lean on. It would look stupid (and would be impractical), to have it walking in an open field on its own.

Hey, now that I think of it, the Operator has moved on a couple occasions this season. In Entry #60, it comes around a corner in the maintenance tunnel, and in Entry #68, it peeks around a wall when Hoody tries to shoot Alex.

You could even theorize that the Operator only walks in narrow spaces (i.e. manmade structures) because it can't teleport with precision. Like, maybe it would get stuck in walls and stuff. Laughing

I want the Slender Man to do something. He just stands there in the exact same pose, like a statue. It'd be cool if he move his arms or something.

I am never going to get that picture out of my head. Now I really don't like the new Operator.....

And I don't think The Eight Pages had influence. Remember, this Operator style has been in use for for over 2 years now (maybe 3 but I'm not sure/too lazy to check)

Fair enough, but the static blip teleport thing in Entry 70 is still very S:TEP.

Well in case you haven't been keeping up Troy and Joseph (not sure about Tim, probably him too) were working on the plot for the sequel to this game, which also has the blip. So probably just a nod.

There's always been screen tearing and distortion when he teleports anyway, so maybe it's not even a nod.

Have to agree with the OP. The way they did it in season 1 was much more ominous and creepy. Much better.

Now it's just a cardboard cutout they throw in when they need something dramatic. Not that it's that horrible, I just miss the different feel the Operator had in season 1.
