Yeah, I get that as well. Both techniques have lost their scare factor for me, and I don't really find him unnerving or creepy anymore. I don't really watch MH to get that feeling now, it's just about the mystery and story line for me.[/quote]

this 100 times.

thats mainly why i get annoyed with the long entry waits.

i don't care about anything but the ending now lol

I think every time we see the operator, he just appears, maybe teleports around a bit, makes people cough and go crazy, and then leaves.

That just made me realize something else. He is no longer stalking anyone.

I guess at first it worked because the videos were made as to show that the operator was just stalking Alex. We didn't know what it wanted.

We still don't know, but it clearly has something else in mind.

I agree with that stalking thing here. TO just appearing whenever they start wandering around is getting old, and getting us nowhere. As Jay started having those (arguably) hallucinations, maybe we'll see Slendy visit him in his house sometime. A scene like when TO opened the door to Alex's room would be awesome (forgot the entry number).

We need TO stalking, disturbing and getting people paranoid. Not appearing out of nowhere and disappearing after few coughing fits. It's like he tries to be aggressive, to hurt them but as you can flee the scene like nothing has happened, it's not working.

Why would the Operator need to stalk anyone, when Jay is constantly showing up at places it already has an affinity for? Wink

I still like the idea of Doug Jones playing the Operator. He could really put a cool angle on it.

I don't think rejuvenating the essence of stalking would be a refreshing thing for marble hornets as of now since the series is almost over.

What would be even better is if we actually got some hints or answers as to what the hell the friggin thing wants. At least we got progress on Masky/Hoody's origins/conflicts and the whole Jessica Situation, but after what 4 years we still have absolutely no idea what it wants.

Why not? That would indicate it getting closer, & a confrontation looming closer. At least in theory, it seems like Troy either doesn't grasp the concept of rising action, or actively rejects it.

Doug Jones is playing The Operator in Marble Hornets the movie. He basically confirmed as much on his appearance on The Nerdist Podcast a few weeks ago. Filming is apparently already completed on it. Be excited.

The Operator is so mobile in #76. I love it. He seemed really threatening for the first time in years.

Agreed. Everything about his posture, etc. was perfectly menacing.

The Operator was at his pinnacle in Return.

His height is perfect, his face is completely blank, and his walking is creepy.

I hate how with Season 2 and onward, you can make out facial features. It really takes me out of it. Does this have to do with it being HD, or did they change how they did the Operator altogether?

Can they just please go back to how they used to do it? Make him walk again. Make him move again. I love how he walked into Alex's room in Entry #14. How he slowly moves in, pushing his hand on the door. And in Entry #4, when you briefly seem him running. Why was he running, and where did he go? Or that head turn in Entry #1. Why was he just standing there with his hand leaning on that beam? Those were all eerie. Did they regret doing those or something? Is it extremely difficult OOG to make him move like that, so they decided to stop?

I'm really interested to know why they moved away from that style.

They stopped doing those because making him move and making it look good is freaking difficult. They were able to pull it off in the entries they did through some camera trickery and such, but pulling it off on a regular basis, especially in scenarios where he should be more aggressively pursuing Jay and Tim (ie running rather than dramatic slow walk), would be impossible without it looking ridiculous. Much easier to just have him teleport or have the camera off him whenever he's moving (I prefer the latter when possible because timing and posture can imply motion and make him seem mobile without actually showing him move at all).

It's funny, really- the more aggressive his behavior becomes, the less practical showing actual motion is.

I would love to see him walk again, but there's only certain contexts it could work without seeming silly. It would work best if his prey is a little less mobile than Jay tends to be when he sees TO.

Just the tilt of the head was all they needed. He felt very much alive.

Yeah, walking and running is probably difficult, but I'm also talking about how the Operator is completely still in many of the S2 and S3 entries. He'll teleport, yeah, or they'll do camera trickery where it looks like he's moving without actually showing him moving, but that's no where near as good as the S1 stuff. Arm movements and head movements can also go a long way. Like I said before, I always get that cardboard cutout feeling whenever I see him now. Almost as if he's laid in there as a special effect after they film.

I'm also talking about the structure and design of his entire body as well. His torso is oddly shaped sometimes. His pants look goofy other times. And most of all, you can clearly make out facial features. The only times where it's not noticeable or looks fine is when you see him very briefly.

I mean, it's not terrible. It's still the Operator. I just feel like he lost a lot of what made him creepy in the first place. And obviously, that could have to do with me being desensitized from seeing him so much, but at the same time, looking back on those old entries still gives me the creeps just a little. I guess it also has to do with the way they present him too. Like, a good thing they did in S3 was in Entry #54, when you see his leg or shadow or whatever that is at the very end. That was pretty damn terrifying. That was good. I wish they would do more things like that.

Fair enough. I agree that it can be a problem (though again, the contexts in which he appears can make even leg or arm movement difficult sometimes, I would imagine), but I'm not so sure about the facial features- I've only seen any noticeable ones in a couple of entries (which I think is the result of the camera being used, and they're still not particularly pronounced), and certainly not in 76.
