Yes, I looked briefly at the source before.... ah, there it is. Stupid Mac/trackpad...

Since I still can't figure out what book we're supposed to look in, or how you're supposed to pick one word out of a chapter (unless it's the chapter title), and this ARG is making me feel like more of an idiot every day (tho sleep deprivation may also be a factor here), I think I'll just go do this for awhile: Bang Head

(I really am glad it's going somewhere, tho. Very Happy )

Update!

I received this email today:

Agent 213H66,

We apologize for the delay, however, there has been a security breach detected. As you have recently altered your Legend on file, we must verify your credentials before we can proceed. Please decode and follow the instructions in this cypher, per our secondary verification protocol.

We appreciate the inconvenience, but are confident you understand our position on security.

Having worked out the cryptogram, I decoded it to this:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Please go to www.dasatech.org/sundial to find this week's code photo.
Respond to this email with the correct four numbers to proceed.

So, I sent an email with 47 125 48 6 and got this reply:

Agent 213H66,

Your response is incorrect. Please send the correct response in order to release your item.

Profile status has been adjusted to PERSON OF INTEREST.

DASA Vault Authority

Can someone check to see a) if I solved the cryptogram correctly and b) I sent the correct answer (I can't read the screen well enough to tell if what I sent is actually what I'm seeing).

Thanks!!

I think that 125 is a 126 to my eye.

DrTachyon,

I'm glad they sent a relatively easy cryptogram code. I do believe you decoded it correctly.

However, I think the 4 numbers you should send should be the code for the word "park", which is what the picture represents to me.

So to spell "park", the numbers would be "1597 1 4181 144".

On the other hand,

cherrytree98765 is probably correct that number is 126, not 125, as "126 film" is a type of film used.

How to choose which to try next? You might only get 1 or 2 more tries. Be careful with your choice...

Looks like a 125 to me, fwiw...

Anybody else think there's more to this? Why is the page named "sundial"? And what does the content of the pic have to do with anything? Could there be steg involved?

Just noting that the cryptogram appears to be based on the Fibonacci sequence. Also, is it possible that photo was taken somewhere near you DrTachyon?

I don't recognize the park, so I don't think it is a local picture.

I tried sending in 126 instead of 125, and it was incorrect. My level is now 'person of concern'.

So, yes I think I have perhaps one or two more guesses. I like the idea of the 4 numbers representing 'park', but before I send it I want to hear if there are any other ideas.

Thoughts?

For me sundial would represent the solar time reflecting 4 numbers EG 14:00

or maybe 24hrs + ratio for season.. I dunno

I have not really had a moment to look through the photo or dial time etc.. but I thought I would throw that in the pot.

There of course are a few options here.. I will try to blow out my brain a bit later on it

Ps... I am not a photologist < but does exposure lens info on the analog shot reflect a time of day?... maybe this is crazy....er Sorry in advance ;P

I'd looked at the EXIF data too, hoping for some location metadata. Best I could muster, the device used was a Galaxy S3 phone.

I don't know if it means anything, but the number 7675 in the e-mail message should have been 6765 for the letter "s".

ALSO: Since "sundial" may be a clue/hint, the numbers that need to be sent could be "0731" or "1931" as the picture was taken at 7:31 pm.
