Well if I were Jay this is what I'd do, in this order:

1. Move far out of state.
2. Swear to stop thinking about it forever.
3. Live peacefully for 3 or so years.
4. Be dragged back into mess by unfortunate incident.
5. Go mad with paranoia and possibly become possessed.
6. Kill random hobos
7. Become deranged killer and betray all my friends
8. Join boy band
9. Become singing sensation with dark past
10. Cry and fall asleep
11. Repeat

I'd try to hug it out with Alex.

Slendy hugs better. In fact, he's a tall, faceless hugging machine.

With regards to calling the police and missing persons reports, I think we actually have been given something to suggest that wouldn't work: Jay looking into the bearded stranger of Entry 49 and finding no records whatsoever.

Yes, it's more than possible that there are logical reasons why Jay couldn't find anything. But at the same time, I think this detail was included in the story to maybe imply other characters' disappearances may have been covered up as well.

Exactly. The fact that they went to the trouble of tweeting about that at all, and the fact that Jay shot down the possibility that he was just homeless or something, seems to suggest that the lack of records was to some degree relevant, like TO erased the guy from existence or something. He made a point of emphasizing how unusual it was and dismissed a reasonable explanation, so I doubt it was meant to be something that could be mundanely explained away. Maybe the reason no one else is looking for Brian and co. is that almost no one even remembers they existed.

Also, I expect Jay has tried using the Internet to find answers, and hasn't informed us simply because he didn't find anything useful. I mean, sure, it seems like he narrates most of his actions to us, but if you take into account the gaps between entries versus the amount of stuff that we actually know to have occurred in those gaps, it's not out of the question that he actually does a lot more investigating and never mentions it because it's fruitless.

Basically, if Slender Man the fictional character doesn't exist in the MH universe, there's no particular reason to assume he'd find any info on the Internet, so why would he bother telling us? I mean:

"I tried Googling some vague terms describing this thing which I do not know the name of and couldn't find anything. I also tried searching for the word Operator and got a lot of stuff about C++."

Kinda pointless and awkward for him to tell us this, no? And if you search for tall faceless business suit man in real life, you just get Slender Man stuff we can assume doesn't exist IG and some JC Penney stuff. Search for Operator, and you get C++ stuff and math stuff.

I fully support this idea. Jay and Alex should both seriously consider this course of action.

...No. The opposite of that. It tells us that Jay tried the search, that he found nothing, therefore The Operator is probably something that only his group knows about...it is amazingly informative, and easy to slip into a video or a tweet, particularly because the whole idea of this is that he is investigating something.

We cannot know if any of these things could have worked and how could have changed the story, but being realistic, these are the things I would have done in his situation.

Aye. One thing I like about EMH is that they actually account for the lack of police involvement.

That's a good point. I mean, Jay didn't bother to tell anyone that he started filming himself until TTA pointed it out because it didn't turn up anything. Of course, then Masky turned up and made that relevant in a big way. It wouldn't be surprising if Jay's holding back information now for the same reason, he doesn't think it contributes anything.

I also like the idea that TO doesn't just erase a person's memory, he erases the memory of that person. That would be interesting to play around with if they went that route.

Kind of one of those plotlines I've seen too much of. Also, it is contradicted by Tim & Jay having all of these memories bout Brian, Alex, Seth, Sarah, etc.

Tim and Jay, two characters who have also had Operator involvement. Again, it is very much possible that this is not the reason, but dramatic conventions and the law of conservation of detail both imply this probably is the case.

Good point, but let me try and clarify a little.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
It wouldn't be pointless for Troy to tell us that from an OOG perspective- it would make sense for the reasons you said, but it would be something they would have wanted to do much earlier in the series. There aren't a lot of ways they could suddenly bring it up now without it being awkward (though admittedly there are a couple ways it could work that I thought of since I made my previous post).

From an IG perspective, however, it's relatively pointless. That's not to say Jay couldn't have told us, just that it's not so weird if he chose not to. Because from Jay's perspective, all of his viewers live in the same universe as he does. As far as he's concerned, his viewers should have no reason to expect him to be able to find info on the Operator. (Not sure how clearly I explained that...)

Again, that's not to say they couldn't or shouldn't have him tell us if he's tried the Internet, just that it's not so unreasonable that Jay the character never bothered.

As for the memory wiping thing? I agree that Jay and Tim's connection to TO may be why they still remember the people who've gone missing. (I'd argue that they could just remember because they've seen them on tape, except Tim still remembered Brian even in Season 1 in the interview.) It would certainly help with the whole "why is no one else ever getting involved" aspect.

Regardless, I still think the whole point of those Tweets would be to imply that TO has such an ability, even if he didn't use it on the MH cast. If Brian and co. aren't forgotten by all but Jay and Tim, then I suspect that before the series ends someone else will be wiped from existence in a similar way.
