Wouldn't be surprised if they reveal the operator travels in 4 dimensions

This is little more than a nitpick, but in my crusade for better techno/Eldritchbabble I am compelled to point out that everything travels in four dimensions, since the fourth dimension is time. Every one travels across spacetime, even if we can only perceive three of the four.

Oh Jesus above dude. The 4th Demension is not time!!! That's a big pet peeve of mine when someone says that.

Here. Educate yerself. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGguwYPC32I

I always felt as though The Operator was manipulating the doorways to make them into portals to send his victims through both space and time.

Like in Entry #23, Jay is seen going through the doors in Brian's house, and it suddenly turns to night, and then he suddenly goes into that underground "basement of doom."

However, in Entry#72, they only traveled through time:
First, when they came back into the house after taking those pages, it was suddenly in the mid-afternoon, and when they entered the basement, it suddenly turned to night.

Sorry if this was already proven and I'm just reiterating the obvious, but I'm just confused about this whole "4th dimensional" talk. Embarassed

I know we have talked about time manipulation or time shifting in a general sense, but what do these terms mean?
Snip

I couldn't think of words to explain, so here's a diagram. (Expect a lot of this from me. I'm not good with words.)
Normally, J and T would be moving down the stairs in the basement like this:

But as I understand it, the Operator can mess not with time, but things in time, which makes J and T walk down the stairs like this:
http://i.imgur.com/X4QRAz0.png
Think. If there were someone watching from the outside, unaffected by TO's power, what would they see? They would see J and T walk into the doorway.. And what?
A) Disappear?
B) Stop and sleep for several hours?
C) Just be moving very slowly all of the time?

A is the only one that makes sense to me. I mean, we just watched them and they weren't moving slowly and they didn't stop for several hours. It was seamless. I think TO moved them through time faster than they should have, effectively teleporting them to a different location, not physically, but temporally.

Let me know if you didn't follow that.

Okay, guys-- we're dealing with the Operator, a supernatural being-- science doesn't apply to it. Derp.

Pssh. I don't think there's anything supernatural about TO.
The ending is going to be mostly quasiscience, I'm sure of it.

There is a metaphysical tradition that time is a whole rather than a series of events. According to this theory, all times coexist; somewhere Alexander is still ruling Persia, Washington is crossing the Delaware, Armstrong is walking on the moon, and our descendants are doing unimaginable things in what to us is an unknowable future. From the Operator's viewpoint, all these things may be happening simultaneously. It's as if he were standing on the hub of a wheel watching the spokes spin around him. He sees two ants clinging to one spoke, and, just for shits and giggles, picks them up and puts them on another spoke.

Just a thought experiment.

I hate science, and I don't want it to explain the Operator. I don't want the Operator to be explained clearly at all.

It would ruin the fun of not knowing.

Suck it up. They're obviously going to explain the Operator.

Anyone else notice that in the Troy Moves Out video, there is a house behind the driveway, while in Entry 72, there isn't. Also, since the house was used half a year ago in the vid, it is fair to say they still live there, meaning they had to empty every room for filming. The pre-shooting work for this entry must have taken forever!

Btw, this is my first post on the forums. Hello everyone! Hope I didn't screw this post up...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Didn't even notice it was the house from Troy Moves Out. I was kind of wondering if they had just wandered into a house for sale.

Now imagine your finger being placed in the 2D dotman's house. Suddenly a 2D dotman-like thing appears. The thing being the part of your finger touching his world. Dotman can't perceive the third dimension and therefore can't see any of you other than the part of you that touches his world. To him you look like him, but then not quite quite like him. You can move through walls as well as disappear and reappear at random. He can't escape you because he's got nowhere to go that you can't get to. Nothing he does can bother you because even if he wounds you all he did was hurt your finger tip. And to freak him out more when he does wound you use a different finger. To him it would look like you regenerated. You can spend days just screwing with Dotman and nothing can stop you. Dotman will never be able to figure out what is happening.

Perhaps this is what the operator is. A piece of an extra-dimensional being from a dimension we can't perceive. What we see is what comes into contact with our world. Maybe interaction with the OP is making his victims aware of the extra dimension and slowly causing them to perceive it...

Though I don't think that this is anywhere near the case, but I thought it was interesting. Razz

So what you're saying is that the Operator is a cross-section of a 4 dimensional object, just like the finger tip in your story functions as a cross section of a 3 dimensional object?

It's been a long time since I've needed to whip out Picard... you're very lucky.

First of all, I'd assume they aren't going to fully explain it, especially seeing as they don't intend to give it a concrete origin.

Second of all, was the rudeness really necessary?

Sorry, someone who "hates science" irritates me to no end.
Science means knowledge. I guess ignorance is bliss..

Oh, FFS:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
It's NOT the house from Troy Moves Out. That house had a concrete driveway, a covered carport attached to the house, a neighboring house directly across the nearby street, and was painted white. #72's house has a gravel driveway, a separate garage, is some distance from the road where only trees are visible, and is painted yellow. I had thought it was going to be the TMO house when we saw the unspoilery for #71, because the interior paintwork looked the same, but it may either be coincidence, or (more likely) the same landlord with a penchant for that particular color scheme.
