[TRAILHEAD] RuArtist
Trailhead found on Twitter

Hey guys, I've been out of this for a while so forgive my rust, but I came across this tweet:

https://twitter.com/WyrdCon/status/332163764050870272
Quote:
Wyrd Con ‏@WyrdCon
We think this photo sent to us by @ruartist is rad, but can't figure out what it means. Any thoughts? http://ow.ly/kLVFM #confused #art

It leads to this photo:
http://instagram.com/p/Ya8OImSNef/# and @ruartist's twitter page which also has some ARGy stuff. Within there is a link to a Tumblr: http://ruartist.tumblr.com/

Thoughts? As I said, I've haven't played in a long time so I'm a bit lost.

[EDIT] The codes on Twitter are pretty clearly hex colors but they don't appear to be the same colors as the ones at the bottom of the picture.

Here are the colours from his Twitter.

This one freaks me out a bit, for reasons I can't really explain.

The Gold Bug is an Edgar Allen Poe story that famously features a cryptogram and a treasure hunt: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Gold-Bug

And. . .that's what I got. I can't seem to get an exact read on the colors at the bottom of the picture to figure out their hex #'s.

The caption on the Instagram picture is "The Goldbug," which is an Edgar Allen Poe short story about buried treasure and a coded message.

(sarnath'ed)

The colors start with Bright Cerulean (1dacd6) and then go:

Timberwolf (dbd7d2)
Black (232323)
Red (ee204d)
Navy Blue (1974d2)
Laser Lemon (fdfc74)
Outer Space (414a4c)

I used this URL for color names: http://techurls.tripod.com/color_chart.htm

ETA: Colors from the Goldbug Instagram picture (according to GIMP):

fca288
5a73cd
784fab
ffdb6d
5a74cb
0071d7
5974cf
87aa6a

They seem arbitrary, and it really looks to my eyes like positions 2, 5, and 7 are meant to be the same color.

A quote on the Twitter account ("Circumstances, and a certain bias of mind, have led me to take interest in such riddles...") also comes from the Gold-Bug story.

Because of photo artifacts, there is a slight range for the hex codes down on the bottom but at least it gives us a general range. For those without GIMP, you could also use Color Picker.

I'm interested in the words on the picture. We get "cunfure," but CUN being all in capitals and set aside also make me read them as "C U N FURE" (as in "see you in-fer").

I read the script as "June," but may just be my brain trying to make sense of nonsense. Does anyone know that font so we can be sure?

Also, "C U N June" does make some sense. . .if we're waiting 'til June for something to happen.

I read it as C U N jure- like conjure? It's a pretty Poe-ish word. But C U N June sounds more likely.

That's def an "R"- cursive N is two humps which makes it look like an M, and an M has three humps. That's an R. Which would make it "C U N JURE" Conjure? Jure? De Jure? And the comman makes me think the colors have got to be a clue to who's being spoken to. Like "See you in June, Sally" or something.

Unless that's a capital Z or lowercase F? Zure? Fure?

Also that looks more like a June Bug than a Gold Bug, which makes me think maybe it is meant to be June?

http://crawford.tardigrade.net/bugs/BugofMonth08.html <more stuff on Gold Bug because why not.

EDIT: Working on finding the font, or one close to it. I know I've seen it before, one of the preinstalled ones I think.

EDIT2: what-the-font and whatfont can't seem to figure it out either. I'd also suggest trying dafont if someone wants to do that while I try other font finders.
http://www.dafont.com/theme.php?cat=601&text=June+m+n+r

EDIT3: okay i'm giving up for the night, have some happynekkedpagandancing things to attend to- but the twitter is following https://twitter.com/HeartCapricorn if that helps at all? I guess we at least know (her?) birthday range. Meh.

Edgar Allen Poe was also a Capricorn so that could be the connection there.

Also, I wonder if the color hex codes are connected to some secret message? In the Gold-Bug, the type of cryptogram used is a substitution one based on letter frequencies and although it uses numbers and symbols, it wouldn't be too far-fetched to say that this one could be using numbers and letters.

Solve: Instagram "The Gold Bug" color bar

Hi, everyone! It's been a very long time, but I just couldn't resist the puzzle.

If all the tweeted color code numbers are put together in one search, most of the results refer to Crayola crayon colors. Here's one site for reference : http://www.colourlovers.com/web/blog/2008/04/22/all-120-crayon-names-color-codes-and-fun-facts (this one can be sorted by "color family" or "color name")

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Match the color with it's name...

Vivid Tangerine FFA089
Indigo 5D76CB
Royal Purple 7851A9
Goldenrod FCD975
Indigo 5D76CB
Navy Blue 1974D2
Indigo 5D76CB
Asparagus 87A96B

Then, first letter of each one gives us the artist's name... V-I-R-G-I-N-I-A

If future puzzles use the same crayon set of colors, be on the look out for the letters K, Q, and X. This list has no colors that start with those letters.
*******
I'm curious about this tweet:

I can barely control my excitement. I found her today. Amongst the tombs.

Do we know who she found? Are we looking for her, too?

There's no such thing as a Gold Bug- the bug in Poe's story was based on a combination of the longhorn beetle and the click beetle (disclaimer: research done on WIkipedia). Although it's also worth noting that in the short story, the bug was a scarab thought to be made of solid gold, hence "gold-bug". It does LOOK like a June Bug, though, and June Bugs are a kind of scarab beetle.

It does SEEM to be June-related, though, so I gotta assume the pic is supposed to say C U N June.

Shocked Woah, it has been a long time! Shocked I hope you stick around. Very Happy Btw, great solve!

If you break up ruartist like this, ru a rtist it reminds me of the game ru a werewolf. A breakdown of that game was to introduce a new book "Wolfbreed" and iirc, the game ended with an event at Marcon.

*eta I'm thinking the word is June also, with the message being C(see) U(you) N(next) June.
