 		Ok, I'm back with (wait for it)... the box contents! The box contained the following three items:

1) a handwritten note from the Mechanic Mathematician
2) artwork with comment in French on reverse side and
3) OSS thumbdrive with code. The box was very nicely executed and will make a great souvenir.

I have posted the Dayton fragment photos and scans on Flickr at this URL: https://www.flickr.com/photos/offsomewhere/sets/

I am currently uploading the OSS thumbdrive audio file to SoundCloud and will provide a URL later.

sinewave: yes, I submitted the code. As for the artwork, there was one that had a man aboard ship (seemed to be posing as I recall) and one of a startled woman who also appeared to be aboard a ship.

 		Thinking out loud here after listening to the audio file....

Suppose we assume that the man in question aboard ship is the Artist, how does he know the Mathematician and she know him? Their presence together at that time on the ship would appear to be a threat to each.

That message was up for the last fragment transmission in Dayton. I am not sure that the phone msg hints were solved but the "two young men with lofty ideas" most likely referred to the Wright Brothers.

heathian, thanks for clearing that up.

I didn't make the connection the "two men with lofty ideas" at first.
But I still don't see the connection of the rest of the phone message.

Is it related to Kettering, who worked with the Wright Brothers on the Kettering Bug flying missile ?
And then that relates to the V-1 missile attacks from Germany on Southampton?
Or does it relate further to the V-2 missile ?
probably not, but maybe...

 		arthurdent: you must be an aviation buff, not too may people know about the Kettering Bug. I don't see a connection though, with the hints (but I could be wrong). You mentioned the V-1, I had a relative that worked in Dayton on the boosters for the American version, the JB-2. It had been reverse engineered at Wright Field from V-1s downed in England. But I don't see a connection with that either.

I think that message was pointing to the Dayton, Ohio location. Not sure about the meaning of *"two young men with lofty ideas", but "number 26" is referencing Building 26 at the National Cash Register company in Dayton, Ohio. Building 26 is where the US Naval Computing Machine Laboratory was established. It's there that the US version of the Engima codebreaking machine called the "Bombe" was manufactured. You can read more about it here.

*eta Okay, so the two young men are the Wright brothers. I guess I never knew that they were from Dayton, Ohio. I always associate North Carolina when I hear their name.

That has got to be it. Great job enaxor! As for the Wright brothers, they were indeed based in Dayton, but they would travel to North Carolina to test their aircraft due to the favorable wind conditions found near Kitty Hawk.

 		It just so happens I will be in NYC the afternoon of the 14th on a work trip. I'll be leaving the following afternoon, but if schedules permit I will try to grab it. (I'm the guy who got the one in Atlanta) I have some co-workers arriving earlier than I on the 14th, and if we know anything before I board the plane, I'll pass info along to those trustworthy fellows. (They're aware of the project) This of course depends on proximity to the city since we're only visitors with limited time and transportation.
