[CONTEST] Chipotle - Starts July 13 http://www.adventurrito.com/ Love bowls from Chipotle. They claim it's going to be puzzles. I'm not thinking I can be fast, but darn it we've had so much fun in uF doing online puzzles in the past (*cough* remember Vanishing Point and Save My Husband ?
Quote:
Adventurrito is a 20-day-long treasure hunt that starts on Chipotle's 20th anniversary. Each day we'll release a new puzzle, and every day but the 20th day we'll choose 20 players at random to receive FREE BURRITOS FOR A YEAR. Players that correctly solve the first 19 puzzles get a shot at the Grand Prize on the 20th day. The first 20 people with the highest scores on the 20th puzzle win FREE BURRITOS FOR 20 YEARS (no, that's not a typo).

"puzzle" #1 is posted. Not really a puzzle, but fFinding the answer is not especially obvious. I will help you now:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
It is NOT Thornton, IA, which is what that Map says. It is the name of a specific fFarm. (Also not Paul Willis. Or any combination of these things)
This is apparently timed, so I guess uhm, I won't do *all* the work fFor you.
Also, once you have the right name, Google the place. They have a nice webpage with assorted bacon & pork related videos and things.

I though it was
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Niman Ranch, or Niman Ranch Pork Company
but both of those say "wrong".

My thoughts exactly...I feel like those should be the correct answer.

Had to do a little more searching around the internet, found it. Didn't like the answer.
Day 2:
With over 1400 restaurants in four countries, you could say we're all over the map. Here's a bird's eye view of a place where we opened a Chipotle last year. Where in the world is this Chipotle?
I went to wiki to find where they opened one in Europe last year. Tricky part was figuring out the latitude & longitude.
Had the correct answer but then figured out I had to go to 3 decimal places.

Lat and long wasn't that hard for me
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
(try to "get directions" to something that isn't a road.)
but due to my spotty internet connection it took me fifteen goddamn minutes to load the page. Oh well.

Hey Kona, try flashearth.com for that. It has a draggable map with crosshairs at the center, and a readout on the side showing the coords of what is under the crosshairs. I had to convert the format of the coords to get it past the answer box, but it's the best tool I know for that sort of thing. (Geocaching knowledge FTW!)

Puzzle 3
The flavors at Chipotle are decidedly complex. Imagine if they were expressed as an equation, like the one below. Before your math anxiety kicks in, have a seat at Chipotle with a burrito or some tacos and the missing integers may just come to you.
Hint: get a wrapper and the numbers are on it.
If you don't have a wrapper, someone posted one here

Thank you fFor the bag picture! Immensely helpful! To mention the obvious: I'm pretty sure the whole "equation" itself is not really a workable equation of any kind. But it's a nice packaging tie-in, I suppose.
By the way, has anyone tried getting any hints or using any hint codes? I've gotten a couple codes, but I fFeel like saving them until I'm actually stumped by something.

The timer concerns me a bit, honestly. This'll be nice to solve puzzles and all that, but actually winning anything at the end? That will be the province of the bots and those who game the system who manage to solve puzzles in ten seconds.

Daily puzzles are just sweepstakes entries. Timing doesn't matter.
The final puzzle will be about how fast (only top 20 win). And it's going to be based on knowledge of Chipotle. Ingredients, philosophy, maybe all the previous puzzle/test questions? Maybe good idea to take notes on all the answers?
I'm just in it for the 1 in a gazillion chance for a 1 year supply (52 burrito bowls in my case).

Actually your chances may not be that bad... They seem to have a fairly short tail on this thing. The first puzzle only had 85k solvers, and it's dropped pretty quickly. The second puzzle had 75k, and last night's only has 45k at the moment.

Complete candor, I'm in it for the puzzles. (I miss The Master Theorem, does it show?)
I'll admit, though, a free burrito a week until 2033? That'd be nice.

You ought to take up geocaching Coug. There's a puzzle caching aspect that you might enjoy. Here's one of my puzzles to get you started:

#5 is tricksy tonight... what is clearly 2 words in the original ad is one word in their drop down menu. Annoying.
