Also been followed today and I'm a big Lovecraft fan so I'll take a punt at it, since I'm currently mind-blocked on my own writing atm.

Lovecraft had a gift in the way he saw the worlds. It was exceptional, but not unique. There have been others in history with the same gift

I got randomly added too O.o

Also, this escalated rather quickly. From random thought provoking tweets to "I'll kill someone, and you will watch"

Can't wait to see what you get. My bets definitely on a finger.

I got my prize

Well my "prize" from shapeLITE480 came in the mail today. I created a Flickr set with several pictures of the contents:

1) the mailing box contained shredded paper plus a red envelope and another smaller black box and a ceramic mask ornament. You can see all this in the pictures.

2) the smaller black box contained a flashdrive. When I opened it up on my computer the drive folder is labeled "COS" and it contained only a single file called "Numbers.jpg" This is attached below.

3) the envelope contained a letter from shapeLITE480:

Quote:
6/21/2013 @9:07pm EST

So, Dan, you won the first contest. Congratulations. This mask is just a bauble, an ornament from a friend in the Chorus. It has none of the significance of the other ones, but it is yours too keep. Hang it from an evergreen tree one or two weeks a year perhaps?

I'm really writing so I can tell you a little bit more about me. My name is shapelITE480 (the capitals are only important to me). I love music, history, and a good story. That's about as much as I'd ever want you to know about me, but I'm being instructed to tell you something important about who I am. Perhaps for the dramatic irony? Whothehellknows? So, if you're sharp you might take some of what I sent you and some of what I sent everyone, and figure it out.

- shapelITE480

4) the shredded paper, which I will try to assemble later, contains what looks like the text of a story. I'm guessing Lovecraft.

EDIT: Although a number of pieces seem to be missing (grrr), I was able to piece together enough of the paper to identify the story as The Dreams in the Witch House by H.P.L.

Fun!
Numbers.jpg
Description   The only file on the flash drive was this JPEG
 Filesize   229.26KB
    78 Time(s)

Unfortunately, this file is no longer in our archives.

Did the shredded story start at a specific point or is it from the beginning?

Whether significant or not the only letters next to numbers are cardinal directions. Seeing what I can make of it now

More likely the directions are a red herring. Rather, they are completed letters like how in the first clue 2 of the paragraph/line/letters were solved.

Judging by the letter it will tell us something important if we combine a little of what was in the package with a little of what he told everyone. I'm guessing the numbers refer to something he already told us.

edited for idiotic wording*

Hmmm, maybe someone from the RU Artist thread could help out here..... Wink

So, I guess 'Whothehellknows' will turn out to be a key or a username somewhere (got nada on that so far)

ShapeLITE480 uses the word 'sharp' in his letter, he has referred to one of us having a 'mind as sharp as a scalpel' on Twitter - that got me thinking about famous doctors.

He has mentioned that HPL is not the only one (visionary) several times now, I suggested Galileo, Isaac Newton, Nietzsche and got this reply:

Quote:
You're mind is walking down the right paths, Ms. Bernath.

not sure if the 'You're' and 'paths' are deliberate mistakes? Probably not.

Another Tweet (to another one of us!) says:

Quote:
It's not all horrifying. Some visionaries have seen true love under our stars, other stunning vistas overlooking alien oceans.

Which got me thinking astronomers (hence my Galileo / Newton tweet)

In another Tweet he mentions Vyasa: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vyasa

I have also mentioned Schopenhauer to SL480, as he came up when I was digging about HPL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_Schopenhauer

I got no reply to that mention but it is interesting that Schopenhauer was influenced by the Vedic system.

Not sure if any of that gets us anywhere but who knows, might help!

I tried the "whothehellknows" as a password for the jpg in Secret Layer, but unfortunately I do not have the pro version of it so I can't decrypt password protected Stegonography.

If anyone has software that can do jpgs and using passwords maybe give it a try.

Otherwise I'll poke at it some more see if it could be something else.

Perhaps the colors are important.

The only things I can think of in regards to that are HTML color codes, and the color wheel. The latter of which gives me flashbacks to my color theory classes, ugh.

Another possible clue/red herring:

According the label on the mailing box, although the box was mailed from zip 22206 (Arlington, VA), the return address is:

Quote:
S. LITE 480
2141 COUNTRY ROAD 59
ALLIANCE, NE 69301

which is the address for Carhenge

(Love carhenge, very cool!)

Which leads us (via Stonehenge) to another interesting character: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Aubrey

Completely off topic I'm sure but interesting all the same Very Happy

So we are told that this image is going to help us learn something about crystalLITE I mean shapeLITE480.

The obvious thing that's already been pointed out is that several of the color squares contain N S E W:

41 S
24 S
1 E
8 W
76 W
10 N
0 E
0 N
2 S
7 E
9N

That's enough for 5 pairs of lat/lon coordinates (S S N N N matched with E W W E E)

Other than the colors, which all seem to be unique as far as I can tell (and thus, the RU Artist code doesn't work -- believe me I tried!), the other notable thing is the single color square that contains a 3-digit number: 480

Which is, of course, the same number that our mysterious friend also uses.

Throwing things out there.

EDIT: I missed "2 S" the first time, which throws things off a bit.

A shame about the extra one danteIL, that was a good theory! It might still be coordinates with an extra one thrown in to throw us off track....unless...

We have to find a starting point somehow then go 41 degrees south, then 1 degree east, then 10 north and so on.... Nope, the zero's mess that up.

How about coordinates on the moon? He talks of other worlds often and that's the one we have mapped most accurately....

Another random.. we've seen videos of a mountain, and mountains have often been seen as the centre of the world by those who live near them, so if SL is the centre of all this then perhaps the 480 square is the starting point...

And the picture is 9 x 9 cells, same number as the Vedic square.....

Anyone get the feeling I'm clutching at straws here lol! Dunno
