Re: BrainStorm - The First Knowledge-Powered MMO Game Sponsored Post I'm Shad0, of course. Lord, I hope this game sucks -- the last thing I need is another huge time sink.

Oh a game that's sponsoring unfiction? I immediately signed up just to support you guys. As for the game itself:
Seems like a decent game for what it is. I personally hate any sort of "wait this amount of time for task to automatically complete" game. This one is well done though. I probably won't play it long in it's current state, but i'm positive those who like games like this will enjoy it a lot. Already suggested it to an ex who loves these. Maybe add some sort of additional, for lack of better wording, minigames into it? For instance when you send out an explorer you have an option of controlling it for a portion of its trip. This would possibly lower the travel time and grant extra bonuses along the way. Maybe give each of the researchers a specific game you have the option of playing, again giving you the opportunity to lower their time and get extra bonuses from the research. Adding something like this would appeal to gamers who actually like to play video games.

What I enjoy are simple exploration games. Give me a virtual landscape and a way to navigate it, and I will spend hours poking into every corner of it. I like puzzles that are organic to the world, such as mechanical obstacles to an area, or brain-teasers to unlock a door, but I want to tackle them when I choose to and at my own pace.
Maybe I just don't like MMO games? I know I don't care for quests, inventories, competitions, or farming. I don't build civilizations or accumulate stuff like stats, wealth, loot, skills, land, etc. I don't care about leveling up or customizing my avatar.
Honestly, I don't expect games to change just to make them more fun for me. Find your target audience and please them. I'll be fine in the corner with my other toys.

Well, I've joined - I'll give it a shot. An invitation to the Unfiction alliance would be appreciated.

Unfortunately, we've reached our 10 person limit. You should start another uF alliance for newer players in this thread!

Holy crap I'm sorry lol. I absolutely destroyed you... I bombarded you for like 3 hours to get my 20 stolen fragment quest done. The other option was Ruaidri who was part of the unfiction group so I left them alone. I'll invite you to the second alliance so I know who you are.

I'm enjoying it and certainly see this being marketable in the same vein as similar games with optional speed ups being purchasable.
I only got round to playing it yesterday but managed to put an incredible 6 hours into it and am waiting to upgrade my reactor - so it's got enough playability at the early stages to seem worthwhile.
A few things though:
Some of the questions are either wrong or their answers are 'stinkers'. For example; Why are manga comics black and white? The 'little black dress' questions and a few others. Perhaps need to tighten these up.
I like the building queuing system and how it generates an estimation of when they'll begin construction however if the resources aren't there could an explanation come up about that prior to taking the resources away? Also, if you remove a building from the queue, could some of the resources be reallocated?
The timer for the questions seems a bit funny, sometimes it doesn't work and others it seems to give too much. May just be me but it seems kooky.
Apart from that some trivial things like being able to use the map to go From West to East, perhaps some trading of some kind and maybe group events (I'm sure the Oracle stuff is like this, I'm only just getting set up).
I like it, I like how the game ends too - will this feature survive into the proper release?
If there's an alliance going I'm using the same username

All of the answers are drawn directly from the in-game Geniapedia entries. Real-world knowledge is entirely unnecessary (and, as you've observed, occasionally in conflict).

Putting a building in the queue when you have insufficient resources should not consume any resources at all -- they're not spent until construction actually begins. If your experience is different, you may wish to report it as a bug.

Cheers Shad0!
On the two occasions it's happened I may have been squandering genium and caught myself short. I'll keep an eye on my levels next time and see if it is a bug or just a part of the game I've not seen as a feature.

Yeah we're starting on the second unfiction alliance so far, the unforumers united, I'll toss an invite next time I log in.
As for the questions, some of them are a bit odd. However you can read the geneopedia for free when you're not actually answering the questions by going to the section where all the things you've "mastered" are listed. I normally do a quick skim of it everytime I get a new fragment, after i realized it existed of ccourse. Might be a good thing to add to the tutorial on the geneopedia.
Has anyone figured out how to attack an oracle? It's nowhere in the in-game tutorials, and I couldn't find a post in the forums either.

When it's things I know nothing of I read up on the geneopedia - found out lots of new things! But when it's things I'm not interested in, already reckon I know or opinion pieces I think they should tighten them up. I don't know if you've had the manhole cover questions yet but they're pretty dire.
The appealing aspect to this game is that it takes real world knowledge and not Pokemon stats, I hope they polish off the questions a little more prior to release. People get griefed easily online, particularly when it's things they know (Or think they know)

I located an Oracle, clicked to battle it and it seems you need level 7 or above storms to take it down. Seemingly it's an array of 'Knowledge Units' which must be overcome by completing them all.
Judging from the two people who'd compiled the questions, you'll need to be taking in a lot of energy and genium before you can even attempt to take one down.
I don't know if there are lesser Oracles, I've only just seen this one.

PSL Thanks for the invite/acceptance into the alliance
