I email'd the school yesterday claiming to be an angry parent whose daughter had plans to start at the school on Wednesday and demanded an explanation for the school closing.
I got a reply from Pheobe asking how old may daughter was and saying that "Perhaps something can be arranged."
I replied saying that my 'daughter' is turning 17 this year and that we're running out of time before term starts. I asked what she had in mind.
I'll post her reply when I get it.

It got weird for me when she emailed her syllabus to the school's administration.
With the exception of acquisitions they really shouldn't need any of that. Her head of department perhaps, but not the administrative staff.

Some schools have the principal/someone else in admin (like VP) take direct charge with overseeing a brand new teacher, especially if the school is relatively new/small or if the department is essentially the one teacher. I have definitely interviewed with schools that openly state doing this so it's not that unusual or immersion-breaking, IMO. It's pretty common for a world language teacher, I think, although I don't know what Geneva is supposed to be teaching.
ETA: Geneva teaches classical studies.

I've no issue with an induction period or assistance with visas/taxes/shipping going through administration. They are essential to any incoming staff and can make the transfer seamless or chaotic depending on their experience.
It's just the syllabus aspect which irks me. As I stated acquisitions (Such as particular texts or resources) I can understand, but the curriculum is usually established by the exam boards for that particular educational authority.
As for what Geneva teaches, she's stated that she obviously knows Latin so I'm guessing Classical Studies or Ancient Languages.

Got a reply from Pheobe again.
Quote:
We apologize for your distress. We are working on alternative placements for certain students. There is a possibility that we will receive permission to reopen, but in the meantime we've arranged some personal tutors. We will send out more information soon.
Do you guys think we should inform Geneva of the bldg821 page? She might be able to clarify some of the titles... Or about the fact that school 'may receive permission to reopen soon'?

Sounds like a good idea. If the 'initiates' are new teachers then perhaps Nicolas Wonders and Geneva have had prior contact from a group email.
How did the primordial, rural and initiate numbers come together?
I'm a little slow on how that was made apparent.
Thanks in advance!

It's a simple alphabet substitution a=1 b=2 c=3 etc..

Gotcha! Thanks
I've asked her about the bldg821 page, awaiting answer.

EDIT (Rather than double post)
Going through cached pages from the site on Google it seems that the original image was named '337ef400b7cace23b5dac21552e999d1.jpg' and there was a bldg8-12.html page there once.
Apparently Doreen Watkins was at Geneva's interview.
EDIT 2: Apparently the school reopens on Wednesday the 21st of August.
Not sure if I were a parent or a member of staff I'd be happy with such limited communication...let's see how the story progresses though before I get all dour.

Ha! I *knew* there was something supernatural going on! Especially since members of the town seemed so unconcerned...
I just got an email titled Permit Renewed:
Quote:
To Members of the Board,
After much discussion and negotiation, the Immortals have agreed to renew our permit. We were hoping to handle this matter a little more discretely, but one of our new hires has already spoken to town members and outsiders. However, we don't think it will be a long-term issue.
As of this email, The Moorpond School for Girls will reopen for a new semester beginning Wednesday, August 21st. Training for new teachers will begin Tuesday.
The Sacrifice has been made.
Sincerely,
Phoebe Kennedy-Sharpe

"Descensus In Cuniculi Cavum"
I love the timing there. My first day of school is the 21st too!
Also...
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Descensus In Cuniculi Cavum is Latin for "descent into the cave of the rabbit". In other words, down the rabbit hole we go!
And now that I think about it, if this is a Percy Jackson style school, needing a Classical Studies teacher makes total sense.

No one blinked over the line "The Sacrifice has been made" LOL
Bets on us hearing that Cassidy is missing or dead soon?

I'll take that bet. 2 for 1 on Nick Wonders.

If this doesn't end with Nicolas Cage screaming "Not the bees NOT THE BEES!" I'll be supremely disappointed lol

Ok, I'm interested. Catching up...
bldg821 --- 821 = 8/21 = Aug 21
So Geneva decides to go check things out, then finds herself unable to leave the house for a day or two, basically over the same weekend that Cassidy is out camping with her folks. Maybe the admins wanted to make sure the new teacher wouldn't be able to get out & snoop and possibly disrupt this Sacrifice business. (Wonder how Cassidy's parents feel about all this, assuming she's the Sacrifice?)
I'm gonna ask Geneva where she went today, since she was finally able to leave.
ETA: The school is in New Mexico, but Geneva mentions monsoons. Huh.

The US southwest does experience summer monsoons.
"In Arizona and New Mexico, monsoon storms typically begin in early July after several complex and dynamic weather phenomena collide. "

I'm wondering what do they mean by this (and what are they going to do to achieve it):

If they think that Geneva won't soon be an issue to them, does it have something to do with the sacrifice?
